The room was not bad and the restroom was a nice size No complaints with room… Robert was awesome beautiful personality very helpful. He would get back with me at each call. Finance department is just the worse. The nurses station is awful they will not acknowledge your present, right in front of you.. My checked my sister in there two days after the nursing facilities for close because of the COVID-19 . I was only able to see and conversate with her though her bedroom window. I was good with that arrangement, one assistant would allow her to video chat with me on Wednesdays..
She was not able to communicate verbally.. One Sunday she got out the back door and was gone for hours before a passerby fund her on the manhole on Northgate. She had a fever of a 104 when the ambulance did get to her and she had COVID. So the passerby my have got it from her.. The facility did not know how long she was gone for when ask. It had to be for hours ,she had blisters all over her arms and legs. THEN THEY PUT HER OUT!!!!
PLEASE PLEASE do not put your family member in there. I had a real hard time try to take care of y sister and a harder time seeing her in the hospital near death… I have not received her rent refund after three months!!!

I chose Manorcare Health Services for my mom because it was close to my grandmother’s house and I knew some people who used to work there and she referred them. The rooms were clean, big enough for two people and she shared it with another resident. The staff was very good, professional and they communicated with you. I had been pleased by the care she got because she gained weight since she moved in. I liked that the staff interacted with the family member and they contacted me before they did anything to her. Every month they called and gave an evaluation. I had not eaten there but she seemed to like the food. I thought that she needed more activities for stimulation because she was a high-functioning individual.

To begin I was not allowed to tour the facility when I requested. I was told that they hadn’t lifted the COVID restrictions. If I had toured this facility, I would NOT have permitted my partner to be transferred there. First, this facility is old and dingy. It definitely needs remodeling. The rooms are dark and depressing. When my partner arrived, his room hadn’t been cleaned, as there was tons of visible dirt in the closet, on the floor. Medical equipment, like the machine that provided oxygen sounded outdated, and made a loud sound, as if something was wrong with the motor.
My partner was transferred late in the evening. When EMS dropped him off, we waited 35 minutes before any member of the nursing staff came to see him. There were two helpers in the hallway on their cellphones during that time period.
Some of the staff members seemed caring and interacted with me and some didn’t.
The level of care for my partner started out fair, but quickly went downhill. His personal care was not thorough. In one instance, I used bathing cloths to wipe his face and his neck. The cloths were brown with dirt. When I asked his CNA if he was bathed for the day, the CNA said yes, but offered to do it again, since he was clearly still dirty. This time I supervised, and showed the CNA how he should be wiping my partner down. There was a major lapse in care.
My partner was able to sit up and interact with me when he arrived. I was there everyday except for two days where it was really bad weather and I couldn’t get there. I noticed changes when I was finally able to see my partner. I asked questions when I noticed something that didn’t seem right. I advocated for him to get blood work done and an x-ray because he had a fever for a whole day and was not even looking at me or anyone else. He was nonresponsive, and all they were doing was giving him Tylenol. This was the catalyst for me pulling him from this facility. I had the ambulance called to get him to the hospital because I didn’t like the way he looked or sounded. The doctors at the hospital told me that I saved his life because he was now septic. Do not send your loved one to this facility!

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Grand Prairie, TX
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
