"I toured Signature Pointe. They have very nice and courteous employees there. The people that live there are very nice and friendly. The whole environment looked very clean and very nice. The apartments were nice and clean. They had a lot of space. They always had something going on which was good. I enjoyed that. They have a nice lake outside. You can see the ducks and all that, so it's very, very nice."

"We have chosen Iris Memory Care for my uncle because they specialize in Alzheimer's and dementia. They have been attentive to his needs and follow all Covid regulations. He seems to be very happy there. He enjoys the food. He is eating and he is actually gaining weight. They have various activities, too. The thing that I like is that they encourage him to come out of his room and participate. The facility is very clean and the rooms are nice sized."

"My mother was a resident at Grapevine Medical Lodge for about four months. GML provided around the clock nursing care and a hospice company provided hospice care. One of the first things I noticed was that the staff at GML dressed mom in clean clothes every day and they encouraged her to get up, visit with other residents, go outside and participate in activities. Mom's room was spacious, clean and she had a nice large window. The staff all knew my mother and would speak very well of her whenever I visited. I was pleased with the care mom received at Grapevine Medical Lodge. No place is perfect, but the attention and nursing care Mom received was better than I could have given her at home, and I don't believe anywhere else would have done a better job treating her with kindness, gentleness and respect. Her regular CNA, Johnny was a favorite as he was always willing to help me and her with anything she needed. "

"My mom stayed at Woodridge Nursing & Rehabilitation for 20 days for rehab. I really liked the facility and felt she was safe. The staff communicated with me daily on her abilities and let me know day to day on their observations of her physical and mental well-being. She was in a very clean, private room. Their shared rooms are the typical hospital setting with a bed, TVs, and necessities for a senior in that situation. It was cleaner than most. "

"Mom is at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis. It is a very well-maintained, well-kept facility. The grounds, the rooms, the common areas, and everything is maintained very well. The rooms are great. They have a great staff and great services. They are very professional and very well educated. They offer rehab, so there's speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. It is run very well."

"My grandpa was at Forum Parkway. It was really nice. They have game nights, they have speakers that come in and talk with them, they have little meetings to go over plans, and they have different activities to get out of the room to meet up with each other. He said the food was great; however, it was an older place. They had studio rooms. He had a roommate. There were two to each room and he didn't like that. He liked the staff members. It wasn't too expensive, but not too low either."

"I read the reviews before we came here. I am very happy with the care here. Right after getting here we saw the tv didn’t work. They replaced it the next day. Someone saw the potty had a crack in it. They replaced the whole potty without us telling them about it. They are taking care of my husband well making sure he gets his meds on time every time. Parkinson’s meds on time are vital. He loves the food! The chef is good at cooking meals with flavor. My husband is eating better here than at home. I visit a couple of hours each day."

"I cannot find one bad thing to say about LaDora. I have a friend that will need long term care for the rest of his life and this is the best place I have found for him. The staff are efficient, qualified and caring. There are many activities here and the residents are truly cared for. Go see for yourself. "

"My dad was at Heartland for rehab and he did his therapy there. It's a nice place. He was at a private room, but when he first took him in, they put him in with another person. The nurses and the aides I love them. They are wonderful. They took care of him and they treated him like a person not like a sick somebody and we really appreciate that. "

"I have been using this facility for my brother respite for the past few years. He is a 100% disabled vet in a wheelchair but is able to transfer from chair to bed and chair to commode. He likes the facility as the room he is assigned allows him to transfer into/out of bed and use the restroom without assistance. He likes the staff and the food. He spend 10 days in November, 18 and we noticed that the facility could use some cleanup and the staff were not as responsive as in the past. It appears that the management needs to do a review of current staffing and procedures to bring the facility back up to the standards of a few years ago. My brother has been going to various nursing home facilities in the DFW area for the past 20+ years and at one time Bishop Davies was he best, but now it needs improvement. We hope this will be taken as a corrective review. "

"My sister is currently in Irving, Texas, at Las Brisas Rehab. I visited every week, and it was a wonderful place. It's very clean and never had any smells in it. The staff is fairly good. They're not perfect, but I like the place. She's bedridden right now, so they brought her food and they took care of her diabetes and shots, which have to be regular. They did a good job with that. They have offered to take her to play bingo within the facility, so they have activities. I was there when she ate, and it was hot, it smelled good, and it looked good."

"I was not happy with Hurst Plaza Nursing & Rehab. My husband got pneumonia while he was there. I didn't like it. I don't think they had enough help, but they were doing the best they could. He had no activities at all. They had a room that had windows in it, and there was a whole bunch of people with memory problems looking out those windows. It was an older building, and the value was way too high for what the VA provided. The people I worked with were nice."

"The care that was given our Mother, Helen, was more than we could have ever expected. Our thanks to the doctor's assistant, nursing staff, assistant nurses and especially the speech therapist. Mother was released after a weeks' stay at Harris HEB, where no explanation was given to us except that she had broken her pelvis and pulled a muscle in her left leg. Your staff immediately started diagnosis and the wonderful speech therapist ordered a swallowing test that showed she was not swallowing and all meds were going into her lungs. The social worker put us in touch with Heart to Heart Hospice that worked with getting Mother comfortable for the first time in a week and half. Mother passed 2 days later. We found the facility to be clean with a pleasant odor, which after visiting 8 rehabs was very surprising. There were sufficient staff members who were the most wonderful, caring people and the nursing supervisor's love for her job was evident. We have told our friends that we were so pleased and would highly recommend Emeral Hills. We followed Mother's wishes to the end even with her services that she had written out. We miss Mother terribly even though she was 91 years old. We are content that her passing was peaceful due to the care received at Emerald Hills. Thank you. "

"My brother was admitted to Northgate Plaza for rehab on June 3 , 2019, after his defibrillator procedure. Robert in Admissions contacted me to start the process. He has helped us the entire time by seeing that my brother is comfortable. Even as busy as he is, he goes above and beyond his role as Director of Admissions. That is the mark of an excellent employee. The rooms are comfortable and my brother's experience with the nurses and staff has been wonderful. He loves them all. They are attentive and caring. My brother receives rehab/therapy twice a day and loves that it is helping him. I can't say enough about how pleased I am with the care my brother is receiving and how it gives me peace of mind while I am out-of-state. We are in the process of moving back to Irving, but in the meantime, I feel confident about the integrity and care giving of the staff of Northgate Plaza."

"If it wasn't for Green Valley, my husband and I would not be able to spend his last weeks/months with him in TX. The staff went WAY out of their way to help us get him moved from KS to TX and into their facility. They have an amazing staff who treated our family as if it was their own. We are forever greatful! I don't agree with these poor reviews, they are fantastic! "

"I live out of state and visited Cross Timbers recently to see my aunt. The staff didn't know I was coming and so what I encountered was the norm, not a result of special preparation. I was so pleased! Everything was very clean (no smell!) and my aunt was dressed nicely, cleaned up and cared for. She has severe dementia, is nonverbal, and wheelchair bound. I was struck by the kindness of the staff - everyone knew my aunt and the details of her life. I was so pleased and would recommend Cross Timbers highly to anyone considering placing a family member there. "

Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
If these options aren't available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about local financial assistance programs for seniors.
Other senior care options are also available. Assisted living is approximately $1,400 less expensive than nursing care, though the services are less specialized. For those who wish to age in place at home, in-home care and home health care services can be contracted for $4,862 per month. Seniors with minimal care needs who can function relatively independently may opt for adult day care.
