"My mother is in Royal Suites Healthcare & Rehabilitation. I can't see her until after the 14-day probation period. I chose them because I read the reviews online, and all the reviews were pleasant. She has been in a hospital bed for three to four weeks, so she is relearning how to use all her muscles again. She lost her muscle strength, so that's what they're also helping her with. Some of it is slowly coming back, but not all of it. She also lost her appetite within that timeframe when she was in the hospital, so they gave her medicine to start eating a little bit better. Her appetite is improving, but not really good yet. The facility is very well kept. The nurses are very informative. The staff alone is unbelievable from what I can tell. They tell me how my mom's doing, if she ate a little bit, or if she has an off moment. They'll wheel her down to the nurse's station or in front of the TV. They keep me informed of everything. They go out of their way to give her food for different things that she asks for. They have a therapist or someone who comes to the room and works with her a little bit."

"My mom is on the waiting list of St. Mary’s Catholic Home. It seems like it is a clean facility. It looks bright and cheery, and it looks like there is a nice variety of activities and a lot of caring staff. It has a good reputation. They have different buildings for the different levels of care. The rooms look nice. She will be sharing a room, but it looks nice. It’s a little bit more clinical, and it looks a little bit more like a hospital room than a little apartment, but that is because it is a nursing home. Every time we visited, it looks like they have activities going on, and they try to keep their residents engaged. It also has a very beautiful chapel which is nice and good grounds. "

"My husband has moved into Bishop McCarthy Residence. It's two people per room, and he was used to having his own room and everything. I spoke to the CNA and the nurse that were there, They seem very nice. He will be getting PT, OT, and a dietitian. First, they do an evaluation to figure out where he's at. They take it from there and then assign him to whatever therapy he needed at this time. When I was there yesterday, they were going to have bingo time. The staff interacts with them, which is very nice. Some other guys were out there in the hall, they were in the visiting sections. The rooms were small, but they were clean. They did have a person come in and he cleaned out the bathroom and everything. You're allowed to visit from 8 AM to 8 PM."

"Veterans Memorial Home - Vineland is a beautiful community. I saw some of the rooms in the assisted living. They have a lot of activities, and the grounds were very nice. They have memory care and they have a beautiful dining room. The activities were really impressive to me, and they do all kinds of stuff. They have some outings, but they also do things with the residents there like crafts, movies, and all kinds of things. I spoke with the admissions representative, and even the staff member I met at the door was nice; they were very friendly."

"The rehab I did at Millville Center wasn't much. They were supposed to rehab me for my right leg, but it was nothing more than getting your blood circulating. It wasn't helping me at all. They had a nurse practitioner there and she didn't respond well to my needs. Some of the staff also didn't respond to my needs, so I wouldn't recommend that place. My accommodation wasn't bad in that respect but I ended up being on long-term, and I had a roommate, and I didn't like that guy. They have an activity room where they had some guest musicians and arts and crafts activities."

"I know somebody at South Jersey Extended Care. It's adequate, but it could be better. They keep it clean. My problem is the food is not good. The main thing I would be looking at in a place is their menu. It's hard to find some place that lives up to better nutrition. I think they need to be improving the food they serve their clients. The janitor was the most helpful and lovely person there. The staff was good, but they change all the time. They keep changing their staff except for the lady at the desk and the janitor. There's a constant turnover in the administration. Individually, they're great. The director of food services would very often like to improve what they can serve, but they're rather restricted. When they serve broccoli to these residents, they give them the broccoli stalks. They don't get the top of the broccoli, and for old people, you can't chew that, which means they're not eating their broccoli. That is being too cheap just serving broccoli stalks instead of broccoli with the heads on. He has a little refrigerator in his room, so I can take him fresh fruits and fresh solid things, which otherwise he wouldn't be getting. They play cards, but they can't get outside. They got a smoking area outside for the smokers, but the people who don't smoke, there's not a safe outside area for them to be in. They shouldn't be indoors all the time. It's all on one level, and it's an old place. I went there last month, but I don't get to go inside. I just give some things that he needs and wave through the door at him."

"My aunt is at Cumberland Manor. We chose this place because her primary care physician is actually the medical director, so that gave her some comfort going somewhere where she knew she would still see her own doctor. My experience with them has been excellent. They have been very good with her. They really are working with her. She has improved actually since she has been there. There are a lot more interactions. They make sure she is getting physical therapy. It has been very positive. What I like best about Cumberland, for us is that it is in a great location for our family because it is centrally located, and they are just so very friendly. It is very clean. It is just very exceptional. You don't walk and think you're in a nursing home, and that was important to us that the environment was a good healthy environment. "

"I probably would have given 5 stars, but I'm only visiting several hours a day and I'm sure I don't see nearly everything that goes on. I have been very favorably impressed by the whole facility--bright, clean, and spacious. My mother is in a private room and it is large and comfortable. Any help that I have had contact with has been helpful, pleasant, and knowledgeable enough to answer any of my questions. Several employees have actually gone out of their way to introduce themselves when they realized that I was the daughter of their patient. I show up at random times during the day and my mother, who, by the way is 91, is always appropriately dressed and groomed as well as possible under the circumstances. My rating could very well change to 5 stars by the time this ordeal is over. I am so pleasantly surprised. "

"At Kennedy Health Care Center, everyone treated me very nicely. I was introduced to everybody. They showed me around the facility. They treated me very well. The rooms seemed very nice. They seemed up-to-date, and there were plenty of room and light. I just liked what I saw. They have just finished remodeling the dining room, and everything looked very nice. Regarding activities, there were a couple of nice game rooms. I've talked to a few people, and there were no complaints. Overall, everything was new and clean. Everyone seemed to be upbeat and in tune with what was going on. "

"My mother has been a resident of the Friends Village independent living cottages for 1 year. It was her decision to go to a continuing care facility and it was the best decision ever! Her cottage is beautiful, the community is clean and well maintained. The dining room is gorgeous and the food is excellent. The staff is attentive, courteous and friendly. It really does seem that she has gained a new family. I visit with her every week and have never found anything negetive. Her living there has given me the peace of mind that I have wanted for many years. If she wants activity and company it is always available. I would suggest that you take the time to visit this community! "

"My father is at Laurel Manor, and the care has been very good. He's fine with the food. His bed is always made when he's not in it, and his room is clean. They give therapy to him every day; sometimes he refuses, but they keep on trying. The staff is very caring, friendly, and knowledgeable. They always keep in touch with me with everything; any little thing that happens, they let me know. They have TV lounges and the dining hall becomes an activity hall. They have a nice patio that's all blocked in, so that they can't get out of it. They also had a nice front porch to sit out on. It's a small place."

"We chose Shady Lane because it is a nursing home and for the kind of care that my grandmother needed, that was a top priority for us. Also the location was within 5 miles from my home, so it ended up working out for us. My grandmother did well there. She did very well. It was close to her, so knowing that the staff there was local, she did know some people there. They were the staff who knew her from growing up, so it made it a lot easier for her. Overall, we couldn't have been happier with it. They do so many activities with them all the time, all day long. They make sure no matter they would pull her out of her room and say, "you're coming." They have a singer come in a couple of times a week. They take her down to the salon; they get her hair and nail done. They make it as comfortable and as homey as possible. It works out for my grandmother; they are really, really good. "

"I have volunteered many times at the Deptford center and interacted with many of the residents. I felt that they were well cared for and quite happy with the facility. There is a lot of participation to the activities that go on in the center. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions I’ve been unable to assist in the center and look forward to returning to help out where I can."

Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
If these options aren't available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about local financial assistance programs for seniors.
Since different levels of care provide their own set of services and amenities, prices often vary significantly. In-home care and home health care, both of which cost $4,767 in Vineland, are relatively affordable options because they don’t offer residential care. For $2,535 per month, adult day care includes nonmedical services and is available during daytime hours only. Assisted living offers a higher level of support and more amenities, which is reflected in its average price of $6,400. Nursing home communities charge the highest fees, approximately $11,026 for a semiprivate room, due to the comprehensive medical services they provide. Private rooms come at a higher cost, around $12,775, for greater privacy and comfort.
