"We looked at Woldenberg Village, but they didn't have any vacancies. They also didn't have a meal plan. They had the usual activities and amenities, like a workout room, a place to play cards, and transportation to the mall or to your doctors' appointments. The apartments were set up separately like a small village, not like in a big building with hallways, which is why they call them villas. The room was adequate and had its own kitchen and a little back area where you could sit out or have some plants."

"Maison De'ville is a very clean facility. My grandmother enjoys staying there. There are various activities for the residents to take part in during the week. The nurses and other caregivers are extremely friendly. They are very attentive to the needs to the residents and go out of their way for the residents needs. My grandmother is a very picky eater, one of the nurses provides her with special foods. They do their best to make each resident feel special. During the holidays the home is decorated, groups come in to visit the residents, and special meals are served. Seems like every time I visit her (about once every 2 weeks) a group has come through the home or the residents have new (expensive, name brand!), clothing donated from the community. "

"I have been very pleased with both staff and facility at Bayside. Everyone has been nothing but kind and loving to my Mother. They are very accommodating in so many ways. Although my Mama has been declining with her dementia, she still gets involved with any activities (as long as she is feeling well) they are doing. I also notice how clean they keep the facility and how hands on they are with all the residents. May the Lord continue to bless everyone at Bayside and thank you for taking such great care of my Mother."

"The atmoshpere at St. Lukes is very apeasing. When I walked in, I was greeted by the receptionist who asked if I needed any assistance in finding who I was there for. The food is better than most long-term care facilities that I have visited before, and most of the residents looked happy and well takwn care of. There were not a bunch of residents just sitting in there chairs in the hallways, like I have seen at other facilities in the past. Daily activities such as art projects, piano playing and knitting are options patients have to stay entertained. I noticed many people playing cards together in the main area that residents can conviene in. The overall experience was a good one. I will return again in the fall and I hope to see things as they were last visit. "

"My dad will be moving into the Jo Ellen Smith Living Center. It was convenient to get to because of the location. It's near our home. They have a caring staff. The facility was very clean and organized. They have some activities to keep him engaged, and he can socialize there. The staff members were very knowledgeable, and caring, and answered all of our questions. They were engaged in the process. They have everything that my dad needs to socialize and engage with others. They have a salon and an entertainment room. They have bingo and all kinds of activities."

"My husband was sent there for rehabilitation for fractures of both femurs. He broke both sides. I was nervous cause so much negativity is available. I want to change that trend of thought to tell you that this is an excellent facility for rehabilitation for the elderly. They are very thorough and never give up on you even when you are not your best self on occasion. Melissa and all the therapist are awesome. He is now able to stand, we are home now and he is getting walking done. They are amazing and I am forever grateful for getting my husband back!!!!"

"My mom was at Unity Nursing Home. The facility was not clean. Their first floor airconditioning unit was broken. We have to bring her fan. After I complained about the heat, she was transferred to the second floor, and it was extremely cold up there in the room that she was in. She was there for a rehab because she had a stroke, but she wasn't getting any physical therapy at all. My mom needed round-the-clock care but they didn't come in and check on her as regularly as I wanted. "

"I've been in a rehab program at St. Margaret’s at Mercy. The care has been good. The unit is very pleasant, decent, and clean. Somebody comes in every day and cleans up, and brings me whatever I need (like towels). The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They don't have a menu and they don't really cater to your likes or dislikes, but the food is decent. I'm pretty flexible about food, so I'm doing OK. They have puzzles here, but I don't do puzzles, and they don't have newspapers, which I think is a problem, but my son just brought me something to read. Therapy is good. It's regular everyday, Monday to Saturday, and I did treatment yesterday as well. It's usually an hour of OT and an hour of PT in the morning. They have a nice common room with a TV. They have hook-ups, so you can also put a TV in your room."

"Rooms are clean. Communication with staff is near impossible. Don’t even attempt to get upper management on the phone. Staff very skilled at passing the blame whenever things don’t get done, which is constantly. A lot of theft also. Laundry incompetent, lost clothes, dirty laundry piles up for days. Understaffed and likely underpaid. DO NOT put your loved ones in this place especially since Commcare took over. Daily mass is the only plus but not worth the stunning incompetence and outright negligence of this place."

"The reviews listed on this site are very old and are out of date. The facility is named St. Bernard Nursing and Rehab and the care is great! My aunt just completed her therapy and is back home and can't stop praising the staff there. She is very appreciative of how kind and friendly everyone is and wants to go back there to volunteer as soon as she can. The facility deserves the 5 stars from me. "

"The rooms are clean The residents has been taken care of due this pandemic. Family members can call and speak with their family members too. You are allowed to see them from the window. My family seems cared for each time is visit. There are some wonderful nurses and aids caring for the residents during the COVID19 pandemic. I think an outside gazebo would be an idea place to take the residents members to get vitamin K. The facility is normally decorated for the holidays and really makes the residents very happy."

"My Mother received the care I always wanted for her during her final days on hospice. The staff did everything they could to allow us to visit and spend time with her. The care takers truly showed love and compassion for my Mom, and that is what she needed most. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

"St Anthony's Nursing Home's staff is excellent and I'm very pleased. I like their competence and concern for my friend and the residents. They're very attentive to the needs of the residents. I also like the equipment in the rehabilitation area. The cost seems to be comparable to other facilities not the least expensive, but not the most expensive either. They have standard amenities like a dining area, some entertainment, a TV in every room, and an enclosed area where the residents can go out to experience the outdoors, but it's fenced in so the residents can't wander off. The rooms are not spectacular, but they're OK. They play bingo, people come in to perform and sing songs with them, and there's church services once a week. They take the residents out to lunch occasionally to local restaurants. There are activities every day with a complete calendar. The place itself is very clean and there's no odor."

"I looked at Colonial Oaks for my husband. It is a nursing home/rehab. I didn't get very far, because they were booked. I have since learned that they are the very best place. They have 10-person waiting list. The facility was very clean. The rehab area might be a 3, but everything else seemed to be at least a 4. They have a very bright, helpful staff, and they seemed to be a 5. The rooms seemed nice. They seemed to have nice furniture. It was much more cheerful. It had a more homey atmosphere, but not like old home atmosphere. The facility is in a good location. It is very visitor-friendly. "

"Having to place a love one in a facility is never an easy decision. My wife was placed at Riverbend four years ago requiring rehab status post a total knee replacement. From the admission process, patient care services, and therapy services, I could not have asked for a better facility. She received the BEST services and was able to rehab back to home. Now, fast forward to four years later we were faced with another required stay and a bit more complicated than the last stay. Riverbend has always been my #1 pick above all!! To see my wife's face light up with the comfort that the facility and staff bring to her during such hard times with her health is certainly a great relief for us both. Her words spoken are such "this is really such a beautiful place and I am glad I am able to return as they all treat me like family." The anxiety she has had about rehab this time has certainly been reduced after her extensive hospital stay knowing she would be able to return back to Riverbend to rehabilitate. From being in the bed for many weeks to today being able to sit in a wheelchair for the first time in a month has been one of the biggest milestones. Baby steps are great and we take them as they come but to hear her say "I think I am going to live now" with a huge smile across her face will never be forgotten! The comfort of knowing that she is right here with the most caring and loving group of professionals warms my heart tremendously. We are definitely RIVERBEND PROUD and we highly recommend their facility!"

"My mother was a resident at Waldon Heatlh Care back in October 2022. I was pleased with the care my mother received. The food was very good. Staff was very friendly and when I would come in from out of town, they always made my visits pleasant and were good at communicating with me about her care. Nursing staff was always accommodating with care and concerns that my family had. I lived out of state and came to visit frequently staff never knew when I was coming and I never came and found my mom not cared for."

Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
If these options aren't available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about local financial assistance programs for seniors.
Seniors may also want to explore other care options. Those who prefer to continue living at home can contract in-home care or home health care services for $4,195 monthly. Alternatively, assisted living is also provided in a residential community setting, however, the care is less specialized so rates are about $1,400 lower than nursing homes. There are also options for seniors who only require light assistance during daytime hours, such as adult day health care — the most affordable option at $1,408.
