"We visited GreenFields and it was actually pretty decent. It was relatively new and it was good with fresh paints and all the amenities. The rooms were quite adequate, bright and nice. I would not have a problem bringing my mother to that facility. "

"My mother has severe Alzheimers and has been residing at the Self Help home for the past 4 years.She entered with only mild dementia and living independently until she became more and more impaired. Her 85th birthday is in a few weeks , and although she doesnt appear to know who we are anymore. at least shes around to celebrate it. Self Help home has made us,her family, feel safe .My mom has had excellent care there all these years , and the administration and staff there have been very warm and nurturing throughout these very difficult years. Mom cant do anything for herself anymore , but is well-taken care of, and we know this excellent standard of care will continue as long as she is there. "

"My aunt and uncle shared a room in the nusing unit of the health care wing for two years. The staff was very caring and engaging. They encouraged them to join activities; and several family day social events were held during the year. The rooms were very clean, but needed updating. We chose this facility because it is run by the Franciscan Sisters and is part of the Catholic Archdioses. Mass was held every Sunday morning in the chapel, and is also televised. Overall, I was very happy with the staff and got to know many of them. Anytime I had a concern about my aunt or uncle, the head nurse and nurse on duty would address it immediately. "

"My 85 year old mother, an Alzheimer's patient (Mild/Moderate), has been in respite care at this facility while I have been arranging her relocation to be closer to me. The memory care unit of this facility is relatively new (less than a year old), but I have been thoroughly impressed at the level of care she has received. The people are EXCELLENT. The only reason that this is not 5-stars is that the facility itself is somewhat dated but otherwise well maintained. "

"The staff at Burgess Square is very caring and very tolerant. The place is fairly well kept. My mother-in-law was there for a short respite time. The patients don't appear to be very happy at all. I don't know if they were understaffed. In terms of where I am, it is in a good location, but there is never any parking available. If you are there on the weekend, you have to park on the street because parking is not good. "

"My parents are going to Beacon Hill. They're moving into an independent living apartment. The very best thing is that if and when my parents need assisted living, they do not need to move into an assisted living apartment. Assisted living comes to their apartment. Most of the other places, you go in as independent living, then you move to assisted living, and then you move to nursing home. This particular facility does not have that extra move. They have all levels of care, and the only time that my parents will have to move is if they need skilled nursing care. With regards to the staff, the longevity of the staff at this place beats any place that I was at, and they are the friendliest, warmest people that I have ever talked to. In talking to the residents, everyone says that the staff bends over backwards to help them. We just had dinner there yesterday, and the food was delicious. Food is wonderful. They have great choices on the menu. They have a big salad bar and a lovely dining room. You can be served at the table, or you can go to the buffet type of thing and they'll serve you. You can request the size of your portions. There is a dining room and a café, so the eating is just great in this place. "

"This facility is very accommodating and always keeps up with the residents' needs. It is situated in the middle of a group of homes which compose a retirement community. I volunteered in this facility over a four month period. Those in need of assisted living stay inside the facility itself. The environment is very beautiful and pleasant, especially on a sunny day. Part of this facility is dedicated to rehabilitation and also serves as a hospital. Those checked into this area are generally very satisfied with their experience. Activities are always available for residents, whether they be movies, group outings, or games. There is also a program called "It's Not Too Late", which is a computer which is easy to use and offers a way for residents to get online and keep in touch with friends and relatives. As a volunteer, I worked with the Activities Department, and some of the tasks I performed were technical jobs, for example fixing the VCR and TV, and also providing snacks to the residents. I also categorized the extensive collection of videos that the department possessed, making the transition from a paper catalog to a digital one. "

"In general, Manorcare of Westmont was good but I had some serious concerns about their level of skill with catheters. I learned a lot just going around the internet and asking around about the proper catheter care, cleanliness, and best practices, and they did not follow them and complicated things. I thought their physical therapy was great. My father had been there three separate times and did so well with the physical therapy. My mother was there for a short time, too, but we transferred her out of there quickly. While she was there, she caught C. diff. She was just at a very low point there, but we thought there should have been extra care given to her situation. As far as transferring from one patient to another, I didn’t see much care. When we went in there, we had to wear gloves and gowns, but then the physician’s assistant would come in, and she’d be touching the bedding and she’d say she was a professional. I have since found out about C. diff being rampant over there, and if had we had any idea about that, I don’t know that we would have brought her there. They did not test her for a UTI, and we told them there was a good chance that she was still having a UTI. She nearly died because she had C. diff and a UTI at the same time. It felt like had I not raised the red flag, I don’t know if they would have sent her to the ER. I was stunned by their laid-back attitude. The food looked more colorful but I thought it was incredibly not nutritional. There wasn’t a fresh vegetable or fruit in sight. Everything had gravy on it. "

"My dad was in the BRIA of Westmont for rehab. It was OK. It seemed like it was run ok. It wasn't the top facility, but it wasn't the worst I believe. Some people are nice. They're understaffed, they had a lot on their plate, they were OK. My dad said the food was bland. It was like a hotel that they redid into a senior center type, small hotel, or something like that. That's what it looked like."

"My dad is currently in the skilled nursing building of Lexington Health Care Center of Lombard. It's across the parking lot of the independent and assisted living community. He's been there a while, and he has received very good care. I think they're nice people though I think my dad's kind of a pain to deal with. They've done a good job. He started out there in nursing rehab and technically he's still there. With insurance, they wanna kick you out after a certain number of days, but he's now accepted on Medicaid. He was being provided physical therapy to help him recover after a septic infection that diminished his ability to walk. He's kinda getting help with daily living aspects. I think he's generally pretty happy there. From what I've seen, it's clean and organized, and they have a little reception room near the front door where you can have window visits on a pre-scheduled basis. My dad does not like the food there; it's pretty much all the same with other places."

"It is wonderful, and the sales woman is terrific. The place is fine; there’s nothing wrong in it if it fits your budget. I liked the strength of the buildings. They looked like they could withstand a tornado. The halls, however, are a little bit narrow."

"My dad’s doctor put him in a nursing facility. He is in Manorcare of Hinsdale. It looks nice -- inside and out. There are some nice nurses, but it seems to be lacking in doctor’s support. Getting a doctor to do his rounds and checks to make sure that things are moving out how they should be seems to be lacking. Some staff members are fantastic, and some shouldn’t have a job there; I’m just wondering about their capability. They don’t listen, and they don’t transfer data from one nurse to another, so everyone is asking me the exact same questions over and over. There seems to be a lack of communication. "

"My mother is in here. Right now, it's for rehabilitative care and then she'll be moving into long-term care. It's very clean. The people are very helpful. It's got amenities onsite, a library, an outdoor terrace, and a kitchen that's accessible to families. They have pretty good specialist care certified who come in and work on a consultant basis rather than having staff trying to do more complicated processes. The thing that's hard, but that's with most nursing facilities and for the elderly, is that they're understaffed. They do a very good job of trying to stay staffed and take care of everyone's needs. There is coordination of care, but there's no one person that you can relate to on a consistent basis for progress updates and that seems to be fairly common. My mother was in another nursing facility and that was the same problem. They have activities. It's a pretty active community. With the rehab part, they do their best to get people up and moving as soon as possible. The food is just standard nursing home hospital kind of food. The people are very helpful and they assist, but they constantly rotate the staff, so you'll have somebody for three or four days, and then it'll be somebody else both at the aide and the nursing level. It's expensive, but they have beds for people on public assistance."

"My mother has called Chateau Center home for over three years. Not unlike most Seniors, She had a very difficult time transitioning to a long term care skilled nursing facility. It breaks my heart that we can't take care of her! If your loved one is in need of rehab, especially if transition to long term skilled nursing care is required afterword, I would encourage you to entrust your loved one's care to Chateau Center. Residents are truly considered and treated as family here! We had to do the, what I refer to as, "the search for facility care within a 24 to 48 hour time constraint", because my mom was abruptly released from another facility, while under Medicare Rehab (That's a story for a different day!) You currently may or may not be going through the same or similar situation and for that I am sincerely sorry! I'm sure you'll agree that no one wants to see a loved one have to enter a skilled care facility especially for long term care through end of life. So I'll tell you what I was told, by another resident's family member (s), when I was looking, with which I wholeheartedly agree; "No matter where you go, you need to be proactive, visit often and let your concerns be known! All that said, they are pretty good here and take good care of my loved one!" My additional remarks: Food-not the best but they do listen, take concerns seriously and try to improve. You can bring food too. Most Residents like to hang out at the nurse's station when the dining room is not available, they don't have too! The staff is great they interact with the residents. Sitting there is part of the residents routine for showers, toileting, etc. There's usually not an odor but if there is (which is rare), it's most likely because the staff is busy caring for the residents. No problem though it's as simple as informing a staff member. The Staff is courteous, discreet and attentive in bringing resolution to such issues. Again, hygiene and housekeeping problems are rare. My mom has never had a bed sore! They even have a wound care nurse specialist. I can go on and on with good things to say! Nothing is ever as good as home but I know they love my mom, she's safe and well cared for! They would have gotten a "5" but there are just some things (most likely budgetary) that are out of their control. God Bless and best wishes! "
