The Best Nursing Home Communities in Volusia County, FL

"Emory L Bennett Memorial Veterans Nursing Home is a very, very nice place. My husband is adjusting very well there. It's updated. The lighting is perfect and they have a lot of activities for the veterans. On Valentine's Day, they had some guitarists in there singing the Army song, the Navy song, and all the Marine songs. My husband was in the Navy and that meant a lot to him to hear these songs that he hadn't heard in years. They cater to them, the veterans. They also have a little store where the veterans can go in and get what they need or what they would like. You don't have to pay. It's all donations. So, that's a wonderful thing. The nurses are all attentive and very caring. They have a physical therapy room and when I go in there to visit my husband, I see guys on bikes doing different things with their arms. They work with them. The grounds are beautiful. There's an outside area in the center where you can go out and it's all fenced in so nobody can leave. It's a wonderful place with tables, chairs, and a garden. It's very, very nice and relaxing. My husband's room is very nice. He's got the window side and the door that opens to a screened-in little porch. We can go sit out there when the weather's nice and bring him out there as well. They cater to him on how he's doing and how he's adjusting. They have a big poker table and every time I go in there, there's like 8 to 10 guys sitting around this table playing poker. The food is excellent. They got a lovely dining room and the menu is varied. They have many choices in a day. It could be a big meal at noon or you can have a big meal at night. It's either way or both. The man from the admissions was fantastic. I had a long chat with him and he was very nice. Everybody there has been so kind and attentive to what his needs are and what ours are because it isn't just him, it's also a hard adjustment for us to put someone in a nursing home. You want them to be safe and I feel confident that we've picked the right place for him as a veteran. He's just happy."

"Clean and the staff take great care of my Dad. Visited last week and they were taking residents to a local pool to swim. Always something going on for them to do, and I am very pleased with the care he has received for 2+ years now. Would and do recommend for great care and environment. "

"My wife is presently at Seaside Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center. It is clean but crowded. Their staff members are good but some are not so good. It is a very busy place. I have never seen a nursing home that is so busy."

"Upon arrival I felt as though the security was minimal. I was able to walk in a side door in which there was no desk or sign in sheet. I actually had to walk to a nurse's station to ask for a sign in sheet. That made me feel uneasy because that meant that anyone could walk in and walk into a patients room and do only God-knows what to a patient without ever being detected. As far as the staff the appeared to be very friendly. I did not have much interaction with the staff though. My grandmother seemed to enjoy the nightly/weekly events that were offered at the nursing home. She doesnt have any complaints about the food. Another positive seemed to be that there were a variety of activities for the patient to choose from. Another area for improvement for the facility could be the way patients can be contacted or how they contact you. There is no direct line to patient. You have to call a portable phone in which they walk down to the patients room which is really inconvenient to the person calling and the patient "

"I was a resident of GoodSam/Daytona beach in 2016. I was very pleases with my apartment which was located off a beautiful flowered patio. I found the management to be spot on. The manager, Melissa Long was professional, caring and always available to listen and make each day a good day. The assisted living facility is well managed with experienced and caring nurses at all times. The rehabilitation center is first class. The administrator, Lisa Meyers , was always caring and professional and treated each resident with the utmost care and fairness. There is a lovely chapel that is open 24/7 with Christian daily services. The apartment building is called Olds Hall which has an old world charm and welcoming atmosphere. But what sets this facility apart from the others is that the residents are really wonderful and it's so easy to make friends. I immediately felt at home. Take the tour and see for yourself. It's faith based and you can't go wrong. "

"It was a nice place. I liked it for the simple reason they had a bank there, a beauty parlor, and Catholic services. I didn’t see any of the apartments; they didn’t have any available at the time I was in there. I didn’t go in there for myself; I went in there with another person was looking. At that time I wasn’t interested in it, but I now I am. "

"I have not been able to visit my loved one due to my own disability but Parkside has been wonderful about keeping me informed on all matters. "I enjoyed my stay here at Ridgecrest, everyone here is really nice. Nurse Eddie is one of the best, he was so happy he got my sugar down that he gave me to 2 big hugs two days in a row. I'm not saying it was perfect but I would definitely recommend this facility to anyone. "

"Bridgeview Center provides excellent care to my mother. The staff is so good, very helpful, and always there if you need something. She's getting three meals and two snacks a day. She's in the locked down memory care unit and doing very well. The dining room is also the activity room, and they have activities after lunch. They have an outdoor area, and each room has its own air-conditioning and heating availability like in a hotel room. She has three showers a week, and they have a hair salon where she gets her hair done. It's a very clean facility. She likes the food and has put on a few pounds."

"My mother was at this facility for rehab after falling at home. I cannot say enough about how well she was treated during her stay. I was pleased to see that they had therapy 7 days a week. Mom is back home now and is doing great! She really enjoyed her stay and still talks about how wonderful the therapists and staff treated her. Hats off to this facility! "

"I visited several facilities in the area, Coquina Center has an excellent reputation, and I liked it the best. There are many activities for the residents of various kinds. There are several activity rooms and activity directors, and they are very active. They come around to the patients and try to see what they would like to do. The staff is excellent, very friendly, and kind. I think it's probably one of the best facilities in the whole state. The food is not magnificent, but it's very good, there's plenty of it, and you have choices for each meal. They have a buffet at breakfast on the weekends. My husband has a private room and has a private bath. It has a TV, but we bought the TV. They provided the wheelchair and the walker. It's extremely clean, and they are cleaning all the time. The facility is in a very beautiful area. There are a lot of trees around and walkways to walk around. It is very close to major shopping areas and very easy to get to. It's off the main road so that you have a nice sense of privacy. "

"My sister was in Villa Health and Rehabilitation Center after her knee operation. Julie had a good experience there. She was there for three weeks and everything worked out fine. It was very clean and very nice; people were friendly. She didn’t like the food. She was in a double room to start with and then they moved her into a single room because they wanted to make sure she wasn’t going to get an infection. "

"My husband is a resident of this facility. He is only 47 and we couldnt find a facility to accept. I live in Orlando so finding somewhere I could trust was high on my list. I am only 43 with 2 teen age kids, work full time and am unable to be there all the time. Visually its not the prettiest place but they care for there residents, they get excited when they see him making milestones. Before here doctors wanted me to do hospice no one saw the potential I could see, but here they do and since being here his bed sores are healed, and taken very seriously if they notice the skin breaking down. He has not been sick with a cold. He is really cared for and everyone is sweet and willing to help where they can. Im happy to say dont judge a book by its cover. If you have to place a family member they will be in good hands. "
