Nursing Home Communities in Newport Beach, CA

"My father was at Newport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for rehabilitation. I think that was maybe two years or three years ago. The entrance was fine, but my father stayed in a two-person room. It was a bed; it was basic. But I thought the staff seemed friendly, and I was pleased to see that there were activities happening. They had a central room for crafts and games, which I thought was really nice. They were encouraging my dad to do better, and he did get better. I had a turkey sandwich or something there, and it was good. The biggest criticism I have of skilled nursing facilities is that the rooms are just so minimalist. It's a bed and a TV. You wish to have just a little more space, so it feels less institutional. Some plants would be nice, and maybe some artwork on the walls or something. I think my father's Medicare paid for most of his stay there."

"Flagship has a bed open; it’s in Newport Beach -- which was local to us -- and we’ve had very good experience with them before. The people are very nice. They’ve got individual rooms, but John is in a room with three other people that are relatively quiet. The admissions people are terrific, and the nursing staff is awesome. The food is absolutely terrific. The only problems I have is the technical staff or maintenance which is a little bit subpar. "

"My uncle was admitted to Crystal Cove R.C. earlier this year. He had severe Down's Syndrome and Alzheimer's Disease and had recently been admitted into hospice care. He was cared for by the sweet staff for several months until he passed away yesterday. In all that time, I never once saw unclean bedding or bedclothes. He was routinely shaved. He was fed and hydrated by a gastric feeding tube which was always carefully monitored. I would like to give praise to everyone we came into contact with at Crystal Cove, but for sure Jesus (the BEST!), Ulyses & George deserve pats on the back for their consistently compassionate care of my uncle. Ana the charge nurse was always helpful with our questions, and Shannon at the front desk was always kind and cheerful as we signed in. We were notified immediately whenever contact with family was necessary due to health concerns. I am sorry that not everyone who has posted here received the kind of experience we did. My uncle deserved, and got, the best care possible as he approached the end of his life. Thank you very much, Crystal Cove! "

"My grandmother stayed here for about 10 days following a heart attack and we were very happy. The facility itself could use a facelift but the staff was excellent. She was very comfortable during her stay and even said the food was good. "

"She stayed in Country Villa for three weeks. The stay was OK. It was good. There was nothing much you could do except stay in bed, but to me it was good, and they were very nice. It is an old facility, and it could be updated. The room she got is a regular room, and it is OK. The staff is very nice, although sometimes when she pushed to get help, they don't respond right away. I think it is because they don't have enough staff in place. They have activities over there like bingo and church. They have certain things going on. I only attended the bingo while my mother-in-law really likes the church. She only attended the bingo once, and they never took her back in the three weeks she was there. I think she needed to say something. She didn't care for the food at all. "

"My mom was in a rehab facility at South Coast Post Acute for about a month. It was the best ever and they were excellent. My mom could not have had better care. The place was very nice and inviting. The staff is very caring and patient. My mother loved the food. It was very good and delicious."

"My mother was in ManorCare for two weeks. The place was great. She was in a semi-private room and had some physical therapy every day. Pretty much the whole time she was there, she was in bed most of the day other than for physical therapy. She said the food was OK. The staff was always helpful and very nice. People that have been to ManorCare all like it. "

"My dad is staying in the Beachside Nursing Center for long-term care. We chose them because the decor is pleasant, and most of the staff are nice and responsive. The patients there aren't just left without anybody helping them. My father feels like he's getting the help that he needs. The facility appears clean. They have exercise and art programs. They have a patio that they try to get them out on for social things, and a variety of different things."

"My grandpa was recently put on hospice and went to Sea Cliff. Though he was only there for about a week before he passed, I am grateful for the compassion that was shown to him and the rest of my family. I had visited a church member here a few years ago and the building has been remodeled since then. Before there was carpet and it smelled like you would imagine a nursing home would. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in because I wasn't hit by a wall of odor. I know there has been a change in administration since then as well so it seems like a night and day difference. "

"We placed our beloved mother here to receive the sorely needed intensive care she needed and deserved and we were not skilled to provide. We made the right decision. Yes, she fought the move from her home of 50 years in Apple Valley CA, but once settled in, she admitted that she LOVED it, for the staff members were ALL filled with loving-kindness, attentive, professional, and fun to converse with...plus many of the other residents were great to be around for fellowship The facility is maintained exceptionally well, always clean and the environs inside and out always pleasant. When at 97 she arrived, her doctor had given her but six months to live. But with the excellent care she received, she enjoyed five more years! Praise be to our Heavenly Father for providing such a "paradise" as this on earth!"

"This is a 135 Bed acute care Nursing Killed Hospital for seniors. They are well staffed by true well educated professionals. All are attentive and most of all compassionate. The facility is very clean and sterile; housekeeping is on the floors 24/7 to keep all areas clean and sterile for the patients, staff and visitors. The patients are well cared for most are in acute states and are not alert or aware of their surrounding due to their conditions but staff is stellar in the care of each patient in their charge. The rooms are average hospital rooms with hospital beds but they are well decorated and so are the common areas. The food is based on diet but seems to be healthy and well planned menus. If a loved one needs Skilled Nursing Care this is the place to look to. They are professional to the highest degree. 10 out of 5 stars you will not be sorry you choose this facility. "

"Advance Rehab Center of Tustin is a wonderful facility. The employees are absolutely wonderful. They work extremely hard. They're very helpful. I couldn't be happier in this facility. I feel very welcome here. I don't have one complaint about this place at all. I would recommend it 100%. The staff is excellent. I have never seen so many people so dedicated, and so helpful, and cheerful. They're just happy, happy employees. I can't say enough about them. It's them that makes this facility, and they're just very hardworking people. They are very dedicated to the patients. The activities are great. They bring in a lot of live musicians. They have a lot of people coming in to teach music. They have gardening. They have a lot of activities in their activity room, and they have a very large cafeteria area where people mingle, so it's very social here. There are two people in each room with the women, and I believe they have up to four for the men, but they're nice rooms. They have closets to hang up their clothes. They have a dresser for you. We share one bathroom that's connected to the next room, so it's very nice. We have a big window that we open up like a bay window. So, it's not dark and dingy at all, but it's very light and dark."

"My husband is in French Park Care Center. It's a skilled nursing facility. It's very well done and all of them there seem to have a feel for the job they do. They have a lot of compassion and caring. It was a hospital before it became a nursing facility. They have a yard out back, and they have a rehab center. They do subacute upstairs. They have a Korean and Vietnamese community upstairs. Downstairs, it's more or less for people whose condition isn't as serious. They have activities, but my husband doesn't choose to participate. They had the activities director call me and see what my husband's interests are, like music or if he likes to draw. If they have an interest in it, they try to cater to that. They have a dining area, but they bring it to some people who can't go to the dining room. I've eaten some of the food and it is good. You can go to the admissions director with anything and she'll do her best to help you and she always has with me. They're very patient with my husband. One time, he was waiting to get a haircut and the clients were doing activities in the room where they were waiting to get their haircuts, and they seemed to be having a good time."

"My Grandmother spent a few days in this facility after leaving the hospital and it was not a good experience. The facility itself is clean and presents a nice image. However it's all about the care provided and that is where it is sorely lacking. Doctors orders were not followed correctly and this led to a setback in my Grandmothers health and after being there for a few days her condition worsened. Much of the staff had a difficult time communicating with us due to language issues. There were many issues which led us to believe that things were not being done correctly nor attentively. We attempted to talk with the managerial staff and our concerns were not received well. We instead were met with an attitude that was not responsive to our concerns so we decided to immediately arrange for our Grandmother to be transported to another facility where she thrived and was home within a few days. From past experience with other family members in many other facilities we knew what to expect from a nursing home and knew that this nursing home was not providing what it should be. "
