My son is in a nursing home and rehab called The Rehabilitation Center of Independence. I like the two people that are doing rehab on him very well. They're very concerned and they don't give up on him, and he likes them. My son's room is kept clean. He is down at the end of the hall by himself, and that's even better. He has his mail furnished, and his medication is given to him. They check his blood sugar three times a day, so they do all that. I've had some issues with them, I have addressed those issues, and they've been taken care of so far. They need to have an area manager or someone on the staff at night. They're doing the best they can with my son with regard to their meals. He has to have ground-up meat because of his swallowing, and they're pretty good about that. They're pretty good about making sure they do that, and that's good. My son is also diabetic, so they use Splenda and that's the only thing they use for anyone, which is a good thing. For activities, they have bingo, and they have different games. They all go together and do a ring toss and turn balloons and different things like that. They're working hard. They're repainting the rooms and they're scrubbing the woodwork. They have a new administrator and he's making the place look better.

My family member was given the wrong medications before. (given someone else's medications) I have also visited her and taken her to the bathroom and found that she had on two pull-up diapers. A soaking wet one, and a new one pulled up on top of the soaked one. The nurse call buttons are POINTLESS to have here because the nursing staff is usually too busy looking at their phones to help residents. Took over 25 min to have someone check on my family member when I pushed the call button for their assistance to put her in bed. I would not recommend the memory care unit to anyone. They have no compassion for the needs of this patient population. No compassion or kindness at all.

This was one of the few places I toured that did not have a foul odor while walking around. Staff was pleasant and helpful. I was told this facility was under new management and they were informative on the changes they were making to improve!

I visited the Rehabilitation Center. Both my parents were there for quite a while, and as far as the care facility, which is a step ot two higher in care, they're the best I've seen for that. I thought they cared for my folks well. It's the staff that made the play. The food wasn't grand, but it was OK.

The furniture in the facility is very basic and obsolete. The televisions are an old monitor type without a remote control. The televisions cannot be turned up loud enough for even a person with normal hearing. The residents have to wait extended periods of time when they use the call buttons because the nursing staff is not adequate for the number of beds they have to serve. The meals are worse than a nightmare grade school lunch. There are a lot of meals that the residents cannot eat and the food is just thrown away. It is nearly impossible to get a box of Kleenex as they are stored in a locked closet. My Mother nicknamed the place and her stay as "solitary confinement".
