Memory Care Communities in Rockford, IL

"While staff and residents were kind and capable, facilities and amenities were stretched thin. At one point it was found that my great aunt had fallen out of bed in the night and stayed there until morning. While I understand that such accidents happen and that she had not in fact woken up or raised any kind of alarm, I would feel more comfortable had they impemented some kind of routine patrol to check on residents. Further, though it may be cliche to comment, the food was usually unpalatable and bland. Oftentimes my mother and I would bring my great aunt meals instead of the fare that was offered in the home, simply because she disliked it so much. In other facilities I have heard that seasonings are not provided to residents due to an intolerance in some persons there. It would seem to me that allowing residents to season their own food as long as it does not endanger them would be a much preferable alternative to such a ban. Altogether I think that the facility suffered from a lack of funds and maintenance, but overall did the best that it could with what was possible. "

"My wife is a resident of PA Peterson at the Citadel. I would not put her there if I didn't believe it was a good situation. They're very good. That's what they do. I communicate with the staff quite a bit in the open. They answer my questions. I like them. They're good. Everything is top-notch in this facility. I don't know how to put it any other way. I spent my time finding the right place, and that was the one. It's clean and organized, and there seems to be plenty of help."

"I like Anam Glen because there are only a few people there. I have found nothing that I don't like. My husband was very happy and he's well cared for. The staff are very kind. They called them by name and they watched him very carefully. He fell once and they were right there to take care of him. They have some activities and they have an activity room. He enjoys the activities and he enjoys the people."

"I put my mother at the Grand Regency of Rockford supportive living. She's doing very well there. She is in memory care, but they also have assisted living. I chose this one because my mom has run out of money and they are a Medicaid facility, and it was clean. It's been redone on the whole inside. It looks like a very nice hotel. The staff is very nice from what I can see. She's only been there a short time. The administrator was very helpful and very pleasant to work with. She has Alzheimer's, but she says she likes the food. They work with memory care doing probably puzzles and crayons and stuff like that. Her room is very spacious. She has her own room, a little kitchenette, and her own refrigerator. It's very nice and roomy. Value for money is good."

"Two of my grandparents have been at Highview in the Woodlands. One for respite care and one for assisted living with an Alzheimer's diagnosis. Both grandparents received care we were all pleased with. It's a small community which makes it very intimate and in return the nurses aren't being tied down and they have time to get to know the residents. I really liked their approach for the Alzheimer Care and the activities they provided."

"I thought it was very good. It's very small. The rooms were individual, so that was nice. They were eating lunch when we toured, and it looked nice that they had an eating room. They had a TV room. The one thing that stood out for me there was, that it was like in a circle, and they had handrails along the whole hallway, which made a lot of sense. I really like that place, but they didn't have a room as soon as we needed it, so we were on a waiting list there. But it was very nice."
