Two of my grandparents have been at Highview in the Woodlands. One for respite care and one for assisted living with an Alzheimer's diagnosis. Both grandparents received care we were all pleased with. It's a small community which makes it very intimate and in return the nurses aren't being tied down and they have time to get to know the residents. I really liked their approach for the Alzheimer Care and the activities they provided.

Highview in the Woodlands is a very nice, clean community in terms of the building, and the facility. It was well-kept. We met several staff members. They seem like very nice people and very caring. They asked a lot of questions, which is good. I saw the activities board and they have something for the residents to do almost every day, and it's stuff that my mom would love, like book club and going to the theater, going on local tours. It seems to be a well-run facility that's geared towards the residents. We looked at one room. The basic layout is good. It's a one-bedroom with a small living room, kitchenette, and bathroom. The bathroom had all of the proper equipment, the grab bars, and all the safety-type stuff. It had a couple of nice-sized closets. She would have been very comfortable there. They have two different dining areas and they were both nice. One of them is a self-service buffet type and the other one is a sit-down, we serve you type of facility, and they could choose between them.

I have had all good experiences with the care at Highview in the Woodlands. After 1 year the staff has continued to be very good. The CNA staff has well cared for my loved one. My only complaint would be that calls are not returned from upper management.

The assisted living wing was very nice and well kept. Each resident has their own apartment with a full kitchen and bathroom. The public areas were clean and nicely furnished, with common living and dining space. The grounds were very well kept, even in the winter, and residents seemed pleased with their living arrangements. Staff was kind and knowledgeable on their residents.

I used to be a delivery driver, and had many personal tours of the "behind the scenes" of this assisted living home as I delivered food to the nurses. That being said, I did not care for the facilities much, and should I ever reach such an advanced age please, please future protges, do not put me there. The nurses were unhelpful and bickered amongst each other, and seemed not to care for the residents much. One nurse even expressed her view that she was disgusted by one of the residents, who happened to be drooling. To these nurses, it seems to me that their job was just that - a job, and an often unpleasant one. There was no caring involved. Of course, if I had been a prospective client placing an aging family member there, I am sure that everyone would have been on their best behavior. However, I was only visiting to deliver pizzas, and as such, was able to see the "real" facility. The facility itself is nice - well-landscaped, brightly lit and appearing friendly to outsiders. However, no amount of Hydrangeas are going to make up for shabby service, especially to those who need it most. Hence, I would give the facility 1 star and not recommend it to anyone.
