While staff and residents were kind and capable, facilities and amenities were stretched thin. At one point it was found that my great aunt had fallen out of bed in the night and stayed there until morning. While I understand that such accidents happen and that she had not in fact woken up or raised any kind of alarm, I would feel more comfortable had they impemented some kind of routine patrol to check on residents. Further, though it may be cliche to comment, the food was usually unpalatable and bland. Oftentimes my mother and I would bring my great aunt meals instead of the fare that was offered in the home, simply because she disliked it so much. In other facilities I have heard that seasonings are not provided to residents due to an intolerance in some persons there. It would seem to me that allowing residents to season their own food as long as it does not endanger them would be a much preferable alternative to such a ban. Altogether I think that the facility suffered from a lack of funds and maintenance, but overall did the best that it could with what was possible.
