"Franklin Park Alamo Heights was very well run and beautifully maintained. It was an excellent facility. The staff was excellent. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-maintained. I was very favorably impressed with Franklin Park, and I could picture myself there. I am concerned that it does not have skilled nursing. They just recommend a nursing home, if you need it. For me, that's not what I want. I want to be able to know that I'd be cared for on that campus. I want to know that I wouldn't have to scramble to find a place that would admit me, if I needed skilled nursing."

"The Inn at Los Patios is very comfortable, very pretty, and very accommodating. It also has a better deal than the other places. The fees at the other places were horrible. I moved to their independent living community. My apartment is big, totally furnished with kitchen appliances, stoves, ice makers, and everything. They're all brand new. They have different varieties of rooms, so I picked this one out. It has a patio enclosed with screens to keep the bugs out, so my dog can go outside. They provide two meals a day. I love the place, it's really beautiful inside, and they're redoing everything. They even put in a kitchen garden facility that we can all use for barbecues."

"I toured Franklin Park Sonterra. The community is beautiful, and it has multiple amenities that would make people feel very comfortable. The residents that were there were very friendly and welcoming. And they had a lot of security features that were also very nice. It looks like a wonderful property. The staff were very nice and very helpful. I liked their apartments. They were very spacious as well as suited for senior living. They had modern appliances. They had everything that would make all the conveniences and make living very easy for your loved ones."

"I liked The Inn at Westover Hills. It was very good. The staff showed me the whole facility, all the amenities, and the apartments, the ones that face the street and the ones that face to pool. They were very friendly and very courteous. She showed me how you could decorate your doors. You could use your individuality. She showed me the crafts room and the library. She said you can bring books, take books, read books, and watch movies. I met some of the residents. I was impressed that the mailboxes are inside, and the entrance to your apartments is inside. It is a gated community. That was very important to me because it makes it very secure. Mary Jane, the staff member who gave the tour, was bubbly. They have a beauty salon, a pool, a game room, and a movie room. They have a trash room, and it's by the elevator. If you have your trash, you don't have to take it out and take it to the dumpster. That is so unique and convenient. There is maybe a two-and-a-half step-in shower in all the apartments. You can't take your own washer and dryer because if you bring your own and it has a problem and you flood the floor, you have to be responsible. Every unit has a washer and dryer, and that's a win-win."

"My sister was a resident of The Waterford at Thousand Oaks. It was a studio apartment. It was just a one-room apartment with a bathroom and a kitchenette. It just had a microwave and a small refrigerator, and a sink. It was very inexpensive. It was very nice, and housekeeping was once a week. I had one meal there, and it was very good. It has lots of activities going on. It was just a one-building facility, and two stories. People were very friendly, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Anytime I needed something from them, they were very accommodating to me in reaching my sister. So, that was very helpful."

"I moved to Independence Hill Retirement Community in San Antonio. I'm in their independent living community, and I like it very much. It has quite a list of activities that are available. The food is much better than the previous community that I was in. I have a lot more room. It's nice to have a full kitchen, my own washer and dryer, and an outdoor space with a small patio. The facilities here are very clean and well-kept. The staff is very congenial and very helpful. I enjoy being on the wake-up call list. In other words, they check on me once a day to make sure I'm doing all right. There are day trips to different activities and events in the area, and dining out, where they take you out to different restaurants. I still drive, so I don't need to get help going to appointments and things, but I do know that it's available, too. They have a theater, a pool, two different libraries, arts and crafts activities, and their own beauty salon. There are a lot of different amenities here, plus there's a home health care agency that has an office in the main building. They provide two meals a day, and then there is an option to take a third meal if you pay an extra fee. The grounds are very nice, with mature trees and flowers. It's much more pleasant than where I was before this."

"I toured Solea Alamo Ranch. The people are very friendly and they have a lot of activities. I felt very warm and welcome. The rooms are very well laid out and the dining area is very roomy and very beautiful, too."

"The Landon Ridge at Alamo Ranch's apartments have a full kitchen, and you could use a washer-dryer in the apartment. They have a very nice layout. I looked at a one-bedroom. It's a good size. You could fit a king-size bed in there if you wanted. All the apartments there had patios, so that was nice. I looked at the dining area, which was very nice. The meals looked pretty good, so that was good. They have snack areas and places where you can sit and relax. I looked at their calendar, and they have all sorts of different activities, book clubs, bridge, and movies. They have a theater, a craft and arts room, and a library. It's very nice. I met a few of the residents there, and everybody is friendly. The whole facility looked nice and well laid out. I thought this was the best of the ones I had seen, and the pricing was good, too. I was impressed. The staff who gave the tour was very nice. She showed me everything. She was impressive. The grounds were impressive, too. The menus looked good. They had a nice courtyard area and everything. It's pet-friendly, so that's another good thing."

"Discovery Village Stone Oak has been bought out and they've improved a lot. They've redecorated everything, so the place looks beautiful. It's a good place. I would recommend it. It's got about four floors and it's not an overwhelming amount of residents, just about the right amount to where they can give attention. They've got workers on each floor that come in. They can assist with whatever needs according to what different people need. They're friendly and attentive. They're not perfect, of course, they make mistakes sometimes, but they quickly try to rectify. The place is kept clean. The food is good and nutritious. They give them medication. They also provide activities. I would like it if the activities were a bit more than what they are, but they try. They had watermelon outside. For fiesta, they brought in some dancers, and that was really good. Everybody seemed to really enjoy that. I would like it if they would play some oldies but goodies music and engage them in conversation. They set up the table real nice and put orange juice and everything, but all the ladies are just sitting there looking at each other until they're served. Other than that, it's good. I've been overcharged a couple of times and still trying to rectify that. I would like some consistency on the billing. I would recommend them. They've been loyal, they're attentive to my mom, and I'm not disappointed that I'm there or anything. I'm happy we're there. The staff is really good. I would like it if they would have different food options. They keep spinning the same food over and over again. I've gotten bored with it, but it's delicious. My digestive system actually works better when I've eaten with Mom there a few times, so I know it's good for her, and I'm happy. There's a lot of people that have memory loss and they will put up signs in the elevator and everywhere and even bring it to the room telling them there's an activity. It was posted and everything, but unless they're reminded at the time, like knock on their door and say, "Hey, we got this going on. Would you like to join us?" They won't remember. They're creative, but they're not engaging them in enough conversation with each other. I think it's high priced, just like everything else is. I would still recommend them, and they're a good place to be in."

"I've visited Emerald Oaks in San Antonio a couple of times, and they are number one on my list. They're clean and orderly. They are courteous, and the people who are living there seem to be very well-pleased. The buildings are also in very good condition. The staff members I was in touch with were very good. They have a library, outdoor spaces, a movie theater, and an exercise facility. They also have a doctor who is there two days a week."

"We were very impressed with The Brooks of Cibolo Senior Living. Everything about it was top-notch. The people were nice. The facility was relatively new. The location was good. The lady who helped us was great. The apartments we saw were the perfect size for my father. It felt clean and well-kept."

"The facilities are nice, and the main reason for the low rating concerns their attitude towards their residents. They are more concerned with their bottom line than their residents well-being. They asked us to supply gloves, pads, diapers, etc. They immediately began to complain that we misrepresented my mother's condition, even though we explained that she was being transferred directly from the hospital and we couldn't really assess her condition. But we paid two months rent at $4000 a month as a gesture of good faith and said that we would re-examind the monthly rate after the first month, and add to the second month's fee, if they felt it was necessary. My mother sadly went downhill rapidly after arriving at Villa Cristina and passed 17 days later. The owner told us he was keeping our entire payment of $10,500 (2 months fees and a non-refundable deposit of $1500. He told me that is was "financially beneficial for him" that my mother died after only 17 days in their care, and accused my husband and I of trying to "trick them" into caring for a "very sick person" even though my mother seemed to be fine the first couple of days there. The money is not at all important, but Villa Cristina represents itself as a Christian Home. To say that it is fortunate that a resident dies quickly, and I'm keeping all your money, sounds horrible, and if that attitude represents what is most important to them, they should not be caring for the elderly and ill. "

"I like Morningside at The Meadows. They remodeled all the apartments except for the lobby and stuff like that, but it is still a real nice building, and the apartment that they showed me was brand new with all the amenities and stuff. They have two meals a day, which are breakfast and lunch or dinner. They come and clean your apartment and wash your clothes once a week. They have HBO, telephone, and computer services. Then they'll take you to doctors' offices or to any appointments you have. They have various hobby-type deals. They have painting classes, pool tables, and a lot of other things that you can do. They furnish your apartment with an electric stove and microwave oven. There is central air and heat. If you want minor appliances like toasters and coffee pots, you have to furnish those yourself, but they have all those downstairs in the dining area. If you're a coffee drinker, they have all kinds of coffee downstairs. They offered a lot, and the people were nice. My wife likes to go to church. They have a chapel there, and it's non-denomination. They have a pastor and preachers that come. My wife has gone to several of the things there because she wants to try a lot of stuff out before we make the move, and she's really satisfied. Even though we're not there yet, they don't object to her going to church there. They have a real nice balcony where my wife can put all her plants and stuff. They've tried to address a lot of the issues that elderly people have. They don't have a pool, though (and I'm a swimmer). However, they'll take you to the YMCA, and they have exercise events there, too. My car has always been in the garage, and they don't have a garage. They have very limited covered parking, and it's on a first-come, first-served basis. They don't assign them. That was another thing that I wish they had. The lady there was very helpful. She answered all our questions truthfully. She even offered to assist us in the transformation (even though we're not there yet) to where if we make the move, they can lead us to movers, people that will help us connect our appliances, like our TVs, and this and that. So, she offered for us to call her anytime if we have any questions. She was very honest, and she went through the building completely. Some of the apartments had wooden floors. Some had carpeting, and she said that they would comply with whatever your wishes were. If you want a wood floor and that apartment has carpet, they'll pick up the carpet and put wood in it. They try to satisfy your likes as far as the apartment goes. That was a nice feature and a good selling point for me. The buildings are in good condition. They have exercise rooms. They have washing machines that you can use."
