Independent Living Communities in Denton, TX

"I went to Emerson at Rosemeade Park. It was very large, very clean, and very comfortable. They have games and recreation. I thought it was nice. You could eat in your room if you didn't want to go to the dining room. They have like a studio available. I think for what they are charging, it's too much. All seniors can't afford that. For the cost, I think the room was small. As for activities, they have a pool table, and if you like games, you could games. I thought they were very nice and considerate in trying to get me one of the units. But you have to look at the fact that you have to pay a $500-deposit to get them to hold them. It's like a security, but it's like you're paying a whole cost upfront besides the cost, like an administrative type fee. It's already expensive, so you're almost doubling the cost to move in. It was too expensive. However, the staff was very good."

"Lakeview at Josey Ranch is a very nice place. We like it a lot. The staff is fabulous, and food is is outstanding. They also have all the great activities. The apartment we looked at was 1-bedroom, which was very nicely appointed. It had a full kitchen, which was very nice too. Lakeview at Josey Ranch is independent living. You can get outside services to come in and they'll help you do that. However, we thought my sister needed another step-up in care. Otherwise, she probably would have gone to this place."

"Briarview was a beautiful community. It was probably my dad's top choice. The rooms were good. They have a carpet, which I guess some people like. But when there's a fall risk, it doesn't seem to make the most sense. It seemed like the social aspect of the place was definitely a priority for them. They have independent living cottages. Their activities that they do with their residents seem like a notch above the other places that we had seen. It was very organized and structured. It was just so expensive."

"I'm a resident of The Remington at Valley Ranch. I've been here eight years. I've had no complaints whatsoever. It met all the needs that I've had. I moved in with my husband, and he lived here two-and-a-half years before he passed away. We came here so that when one of us did pass away, we would not be moving other than maybe go into a smaller apartment and that we could stay and continue our life here. I had no complaints with anyone in the eight years that I have been here. I've gotten along with everyone. When my husband passed, they could not have been any nicer to me. They told me if I wanted to have dinner for my family here that I could have it in the cafeteria at the day that we had the funeral service. They said, "We will not provide the dinner but we'll provide a place for you to have it," which was fine. They went all out to help me when he passed away. I'm very satisfied with everyone here. The food is excellent. If there's something that I don't particularly like that day, I can go to an alternative menu and get something else. Maintenance and housekeeping are excellent. I can get help with things that I can no longer accomplish. There are enough activities for me and I feel safe here and I feel like I'm taken care of here. It meets my needs. I think this is the best place for me to be."

"The food was very good at Pioneer Ridge; however, they were not able to show me a room. The residents I talked to were very good, and we had a good conversation. It's number one on my list so far."

"It had all three levels of care, but I visited the independent living. They told me that it was only built five years ago. It was good, but the rooms were probably average. I saw the dining area. They had three meals a day and there was a snack area where you could pick up snacks any time of the day. For the size of the facility, the dining area seemed to be small, but they told me that if you would go for independent living, you can eat in the assisted living dining room as well. I met one staff member, and she was friendly. She knew what she was talking about. It looked like an apartment building. It's four stories. It seemed to be clean."

"We really liked Brookdale North Richland Hills. It was lovely, and I think I would enjoy living there. They also have meals; you go to the main building for the meals. The place was very nice, and it was like a community. I saw one lady trimming her bushes. They also have a library. They have activities there. In fact, I was invited to a lecture that they were having. We also looked at their cottages."

"They were very nice at Parc Place. It was very clean, I met some of the people who lived there, and they were very friendly. The apartment was very nice and clean but their one bedroom was way too small. They had a swimming pool, a pool table and a library where you can go sit and read. They had a little area where you can go drink coffee. Everybody there seemed real happy. "

"Alexis Estates is amazing. It's totally new, so everything is gorgeous. The rooms are fabulous, the chef they have is very talented in making food without salt and pepper, and using other spices. The cleaning staff is great. The staff is incredible, very helpful, and very caring."

"Gracious Care Home - Allen was nice. The staff who assisted me with the tour was nice. It was like living at home because it was an actual house. It's just a single home in a neighborhood. It's not a normal facility like the other places. It was very small, so there would be lots of one-on-one attention. I think they said they only take 3 residents at a time. They only had one lady there at the time. They did home-cooked meals but they didn't have a meal plan or anything like that."

"I will move into The Reserve at North Dallas. I liked it because it was very clean and nice, and there were a lot of people who worked there in the hallway. The room was very nice. We looked at the room, and a friend of mine came with me. The lady who helped us was excellent. Her name's Brittany. She answered all our questions, and she wasn't pushy. They have a refrigerator and a stove. They have a full kitchen, and they also have washers and dryers. They drove across town to come to pick me up because I was wheelchair-bound, and I didn't have a way to get over there. So, they used their vehicle and came over across town, picked me up, and took me over to the place. Then, I took a tour, and they brought me home. The food was good, but they accidentally brought me one of the wrong things."

"My husband and I visited Londonderry. We are looking for a retirement community for ourselves. I find their houses looked the same- single story. Individually they'd be a nice architecture but they're right next to each other in long lines so it looks like a 1950's driving motel to us. They really have no additional care available other than companion services where you can get anywhere out of the yellow pages. They really have no other services. All they have was a dining room where if you can't cook you can go eat there. The place is well kept and clean. The staff was accommodating and helpful when we were inquiring. "

"I toured Sunstone Village. It's an excellent place. I saw a two-room apartment. It's a good size. It's spacious. The staff was very sweet. She speaks Spanish, and my first language is Spanish. She was very nice to us. It's very beautiful. The amenities are excellent. I like it a lot. They have spaces for grills."

"The Vista at Rayzor Ranch was newer. It looked like it was more open, with a lot of windows and modern facilities. It was an active community. It was larger than the other facility. It was more cold and open. They had fewer amenities, and you had more freedom. The staff was very nice and helpful. We told her what we needed and what we could afford. She showed us the apartment, and it was very nice. It had a patio, but for me, it was too large. They didn't have a lot of get-together activities other than celebrating holidays. They had a room where you could get together and cook. They had some activities. They had a library. I wasn't interested because I felt cold there. The facility is beautiful. When you walk in, you're in awe because everything is glass. They have a pool. It looked more like a resort."
