"Our Mother has been a resident since February 2020. She is very happy and there are many activities to keep her active and engaged. The meal options offered at each setting are varied, well rounded, nutritional and tasty. Employees, from Eric all the way to the part time dining room staff are very friendly and accommodating to our Mother as well as family that comes to visit. We are very grateful that our Mother is residing at StoryPoint Grand Rapids West."

"Baldwin House Lloyd's Bayou would have worked for us. They had a good price, but the vibe wasn't great. It was sort of a little bit more rundown and the staff and the people there felt like they were just kind of getting by. It's not like a place that they truly enjoy being at. They didn't have a lot of emphasis on exercise and community things. They were laid back and very relaxed, but they were very friendly. It was OK. They had all the amenities but they were not super well maintained. It was just sort of there. I saw an exercise room and the courtyard. That was very nice. The bedroom size was OK. The facility was very close to several great restaurants, so that was good. There's also a nice park on the water nearby and there's a nature trail right next door. The surrounding area was the biggest plus for the place."

"I toured American House Spring Lake. The building was nice. I did not see as many people out in the halls or interacting with each other. I didn't see the staff interact as much with the residents, but it could have been the time of day. They didn't serve dinner. The apartments were adequate. They had pretty much the same features in them, but they were quite nice. I wasn't as impressed with the staff."

"My mother is in Royal Park Place, and it was very good. Her room was very nice. The staff is positive. "

"I am now living at Royal Park Place. I've only been here a month but it's met all my expectations. I like it here very much and I'm quite satisfied. The food is excellent, very good, and delicious. The people here are so wonderful. They're busy, but they always have time to talk to you if you have a question. They have lots of programs and activities going on all the time so they make it easy to meet the other people. It's a beautiful facility. We have way more activities than one person could do and there are lots to choose from. It's a moderate price."

"We went to Waverly Meadows. It sits on 16th Street, which is a main street here in Holland. I met some people there that I know. I’ve been there for like 14 years. They offered a laundry room, but it costs. It costs a quarter to run the washer and the dryer. They did not serve any meals there. But they seemed to have a pretty close-knit family-type situation there. The people that were managing were so nice too. They also have on-the-grounds units that are one floor. So you would enter the building, and there would be a couple of units you would go to. That’s what my sister really, really liked. But the long hallway kind of bothered both of us. You have to go down to this long hallway, and then you open your door. You are in the hallway and not outside. The cost was affordable for her in that community. It’s an older community. "

"We chose The Village at Appledorn because we have a number of friends who live there and like it very much. They have spacious rooms with washers and dryers inside, and spacious closets and storage spaces. They only serve one meal a day, and you can choose to take it or not. Our friends who live there say that it’s good service. They have an exercise room, a theater, crafts, trips to the supermarket and special events, and also trips to the church, doctors or dentists."

"The Warm Friend (Resthaven) is a former hotel so the rooms are smaller. It’s located downtown, where all the sidewalks are heated so there’s no snow or ice in the winter, and has all the stores and restaurants available to it. It’s a very nice place. The staff is great, and the food is really good. They have the same activities as the other community I’ve visited. The storage space in the rooms are cramped, there are air-conditioning and washers and dryers in the rooms."

"Waterford Place was absolutely gorgeous. It’s brand-new, has a pool, has a lot of exercise facilities, and wonderful food menu. We were invited to eat there. We ate cake, and other stuff; but it was very expensive. It doubled everything else. It was like $8,000 a month. I don’t know anyone who could afford it. For someone who could afford it; that would be like a five-star. It’s like staying at a resort. We just did a tour with the staff. It was more of an organized tour, a group tour because it was a grand opening. I liked a lot of it. The only thing was some of the rooms, in a way I guess, were kind of very hospital-like. I think that was probably the assisted-living that was more hospital-like. It’s a nice area, and surrounded by three streets. To me it’s seems more like a really nice hotel. The people seemed to be friendly, the people that live there were younger, and weren’t unhealthy. They had verandas that you could sit in. "

"My parents-in-law were at The Manor and Villages of the Sunset Senior Communities. They were in assisted living, and they did a very good job and took very good care of them. They did not like the food, though. It was not good, and that was pretty much the consensus of anyone we talked to there. Their first apartment had enough space and was really nice. It was totally redone before they moved in, and they had housekeeping at that time. When they transitioned over to assisted living, it was still a nice but smaller apartment, and it was okay. It took away our fear of them having a stove, and some of the other things that they could no longer get their hands on, like burning candles or anything like that. We also felt very comfortable with the fact that there were people in and out of their room all the time, so we felt that they were being monitored. The staff was very good. They definitely wanted to make sure that they followed every letter of what they had to do. We had to consult with the PA to get the right medications, or when to end some medications for more pain relief at the end, and stuff like that. There were a lot of activities to go to. My parents just chose not to do a lot of them. Their apartment was clean, although when we moved furniture, we found a whole bunch of crumbs, so they probably didn't move them. Maybe that's part of their contract for cleaning."

"The Cottages at Allen Springs offer a cottage instead of an apartment, and it has a garage. It is all on one level, which is important. They also offer many activities, and the rental cost includes all utilities, even the Internet. The woman who assisted me was knowledgeable and friendly. It was immaculately clean, very appealing visually, and very nicely decorated. The atmosphere was calm and interesting. The cottage was very, very spacious."

"I live in The Village at Rosy Mound and it is very, very nice. I don't have a washer and dryer in my apartment, but I am right next to the laundry room and I have the use of two washing machines and two dryers, so it is very convenient for me. It is wonderful. The only problem right now is the virus, they had us on lockdown, so they don't have any of the activities open right now. We can go to our doctors and essential things like grocery shopping, but we are told not to visit family members and more or less to stay in our apartments and away from groups of people gathering. And to not walk the halls because the virus can carry into the hallways. But when we're able to do everything we have bingo, games, we party together, and there's all kinds of activities. The rooms are very spacious, and my 2-bedroom have two full size bathrooms. The living room is very nice, I have a couch, a shelf full of books, and a huge TV in my living room. And there is still space for my printer, a desk, and table for dinner. I have a little piano in here, too. The kitchen is very spacious. I have an upscale dishwasher, refrigerator, and electric stove and a very nice cabinet. The prices are very reasonable, too. The only thing missing is we don't have a swimming pool. We have garages so you can rent a garage that has a door that you can open up with your garage door opener. And we also have a little roof covering or shade which you can rent, too. We have storage rooms that you can rent for extra storage for your things. There's 2 washing machines and 2 dryers on each corner of each level. There are three levels on this building with an elevator on two ends. There is no stairways except one if you want to walk down. There is a gym, a wellness clinic, and a huge dining room with a chef who will prepare dinner meals once a day. You can cook on your own if you want. The staff is very, very nice. It is a privately owned place and the owner even has a huge apartment here where, if he wants to, he can come in and be with us. I am health conscious because I have a heart problem so for me the food is a little too salty, so I cook my own and I mix it with some of the food that he prepares so it won't be so salty. If you don't have that problem, it is fine. It is right next to Lake Michigan. It is a little town and is not a place to go shopping. It is very small with local businesses and restaurants. If you like the quietness and the beauty, there is a lot of woods here with lots of deer running around and wild turkeys walking all over the place. There are several apartments for low income here as well and those apartments are huge. My sister is in one of those apartments and she has a bigger apartment than I have. She has a huge walk-in closet, but she only has 1 bathroom in her apartment. She has a shower in her apartment with one bathroom, but she has a half-bathroom. She does have two full size bedrooms and a nice big living room as big as mine. I have the most expensive apartment in the building, one of the expensive ones."
