"Everything just looked very livable at Sentinel Pointe Retirement Community. Things didn't seem cramped. There seemed to be a lot of open space for moving around. Everything seemed very, very good. I didn't notice anything I didn't like or questioned. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. When I had questions, they were very patient with me."

"I visited StoryPoint Wyoming, an independent living facility. I like the layout of the building and everybody I ran into seemed to be very friendly. The people were good about answering my questions. I thought everyone did a good job of informing me. The staff was very patient with me. The rooms all seemed very adequate and useful and the atmosphere felt very comfortable. The common rooms were large enough that I didn't think I would ever feel crowded. It just looks very inviting."

"I like Rivertown Ridge. It's newer. It's four years old. The people are very friendly. We went through independent living to their memory care. They were very helpful. People were coming up and introducing themselves. They have a large area for walking, a tennis court, and a lovely outdoor pool. It's just a nice feeling. In terms of cleanliness, it's very clean and very well taken care of."

"Mom was at American House Jenison for three weeks. The staff was very friendly. The nurses called me to find out how my mom was when she went into the hospital. They're just very nice. They worked very quickly to get my mom a little apartment there when she was in rehab. It was a smooth transition. They made it happen by coming over to the rehab facility to get my mom all signed up to go to the American House. She was in a studio plus. The food was so much better than the other rehab place. My mom barely ate at the rehab, but she was pretty into it at American House. I think the lighting was a little dark in the hallways. I know they're kind of working to get that lighting updated. It wasn't a real joyful walk from the dining room to her room. Other than that, it's a nice facility, and it's smaller, so they get a lot more personal attention. Upkeep and maintenance were good."

"Byron Center Manor looked very nice. The people were friendly. They have nice rooms. The dining area was nice and clean too."

"We're very, very happy here at StoryPoint Rockford. My husband drives to go to the grocery store when we need to. We're in independent living and we have a lovely apartment. We eat at 5:00 and the meals at night are perfect. We're friends with a lot of people here. There's nothing wrong with it, all the help, the life enhancement, there's something going on all the time. We have entertainment. Now that the weather's good, we're going out into Grand Rapids for different things. We walk around the building. Our building is big enough to walk twice around. It's a two-story and when the weather doesn't permit, we walk the halls. We have help whenever we want it. Cleaning is done for us, and if something goes wrong with my kitchen sink and my faucet, they're here to fix it. The staff is very nice and they know your name immediately. There are five or six couples here, but we're the only ones without a walker or any assistance. One of the nurses calls us the Dynamic Duo. If something goes wrong with the plumbing or the heating, we don't have to think about that. We just call Wayne and he takes care of it. Our chef is very good, and our menus are healthy. There's ice cream, cakes, and cookies all the time. The wellness center here is perfect. There's somebody here night and day and day and night. We have cords to pull if we need that, and we have health checks all the time. Every week, you get your blood pressure checked if you want. It's great. If you're going to retire, retire in a place like this. We also have the memory section here and those people are taken care of. Each section is well taken care of because we know people from each one. A man that lives in independent living down the hall from us quite often brings his wife, who is in the memory section, to dinner with us. He can go and eat in her section or he brings her to our section. We can see the building where our doctor is. We can walk to it in five minutes or we can drive to it in two minutes. If our doctor says you should see doctor so-and-so, you don't have to make the appointment, she'll contact that doctor and that doctor's office will call us. The system here is perfect. The ear doctor, the eye doctor, the dentist, everything is convenient."

"My father has moved into American House Holland. What made us choose this place is the location, the friendliness of the staff, and the knowledge and condition of everybody in the building as well as the building itself. It's very clean. My father has a 350-square-foot studio apartment. It's very nice and open. He has large windows for plenty of outside viewing. And it's conveniently located close to where he eats, so he doesn't have to walk very far."

"Freedom Village Holland was very nice. The food was excellent. The staff was very good, but you have to move to Holland. They don't have garages. The grounds are not pretty, but they have a beautiful facility. We've stayed there overnight. Their activities are very good. It costs more there, so you don't get as much value for your money, but I still think they're great. They have bus activities, they have travel activities, they go to different countries as groups, they have a full-size Olympic swimming pool in the facility, a jacuzzi, and a hot tub. They have an attached care facility. It's a quality unit. There's nothing wrong with that facility other than it's just big. It's seven stories and big problem is the slow elevators. If you want to go to supper, you take your time."

"My friend has moved into Baldwin House Lloyd's Bayou. It's very nice. It is very well kept up. It was really a godsend to us. The issue is with the concierge services. For people who don't have a lot of money, it can be difficult. The family will need to be involved if they can't afford all the concierge services, but what they do provide is very good and top quality. The staff members are well-educated. They are very professional and caring and they try and help all they can. My friend is not using all the services, so I can't necessarily say everything is five-stars, but everything I've encountered has been five-star quality. Their facilities are very large and spacious. They have different common facilities on each level. They have a card-playing room and a billiards room. They have movie room where they show movies for the group. They really do offer a lot of very nice amenities, and they have an exercise room, too. It's very clean and it's very welcoming. They just do things right, but it is expensive."

"We toured Clark Retirement at Franklin. The facilities were very clean. The staff and all the residents were very welcoming. The item that I think hit home more than anything else was that it felt like any other apartment. This is a full apartment. This felt like a residence, like an apartment building, and like more so than any of the others, and that was a big thing. There's one lady that's been there 37 years, and we talked to her. We ran across maintenance people and all the others talked to them, and they were just very anxious to talk to us about the facility and their experiences there. It's got a bedroom and then a larger room, which has a living and full kitchen and bathroom and a walk-in closet. It has a full kitchen, it's not a kitchenette. It's a very nice dining room. You order off a menu just like you would in a restaurant. There's a meal allowance in the monthly fee for the facility."

"Porter Hills Village is in a very nice area. I like the location from where I'm living now. It looked very livable and very comfortable. The one thing I have against Porter Hills is I would like a two-bedroom and they do not have two-bedroom apartments, although I have seen some of their rooms, and that probably could work out. The staff was very friendly and I went to a craft workshop one day with them. I have been invited to activity-type things that I was not able to go to. They are keeping in touch with me."
