We toured Clark Retirement at Franklin. The facilities were very clean. The staff and all the residents were very welcoming. The item that I think hit home more than anything else was that it felt like any other apartment. This is a full apartment. This felt like a residence, like an apartment building, and like more so than any of the others, and that was a big thing. There's one lady that's been there 37 years, and we talked to her. We ran across maintenance people and all the others talked to them, and they were just very anxious to talk to us about the facility and their experiences there. It's got a bedroom and then a larger room, which has a living and full kitchen and bathroom and a walk-in closet. It has a full kitchen, it's not a kitchenette. It's a very nice dining room. You order off a menu just like you would in a restaurant. There's a meal allowance in the monthly fee for the facility.

Mom-in-law will be moving to Clark at Franklin. We chose that place, because of the level of care and its vicinity to our home. We plan on visiting her a lot, so we didn't want to be driving across town. They offer rehab services right on site, which she will need, and they had very nice, clean, and very appealing facilities. The rooms were very efficient. A hospital bed was provided, a couple pieces of furniture, and we could decorate her room. We were pleased and satisfied with it. There's always a nurse on staff and she can have all of her doctors' appointments. They have a chapel right on site, so the residents, if they want, can go to church, which was important to us. The staff, starting from the event directors, nurses, and aides, were great.

We looked at Clark Retirement at Franklin. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. We didn't really have a ton of time, so we didn't give it as much time as we did the other. There was nothing wrong with it. The people were great and very knowledgeable. It's just the other one had a better location and was brand new, so that's kind of why we went in that direction. They had a pool that was nice. I did not try the food, but the dining area looked very clean. It looked fine. They're a little bit older facility. Nothing wrong with this place. It was just kind of nice to see the new ones. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

My mother is in memory care at Clark Retirement at Franklin. It's very clean, very nice, well appointed, and well equipped. They have many things to do for the residents and excellent dining. The staff is very caring. They get to know their residents very well and form a good relationship with them. They're constantly looking in on and taking care of my mom. She's rarely alone for more than just a short time. They really seem to care about their residents. I've gone to dinner several times with my mom, and the food is very good and lots of it. My mom is complaining she's gaining weight. They have a posted schedule that if you go to their website, you could find it. They have daily activities. I observed a jewelry class, exercise class, and music. They brought horses in for the residents to see. Onsite they have a chapel so that the residents can go to religious mass. They play Jeopardy and different games every night at 6:30 after dinner. They have a movie that they can gather around the big screen TV and watch together. Every day there are things for them to do or not. Every day there are optional activities for the residents to partake in. Once a week or maybe once every two weeks, they have a bigger trip where you can get on a bus and they take you to different things. The last trip I saw them that was available was a trip down to the Grand Rapids Art Museum. For residents that are capable of doing that kind of thing, they can sign up for it. They drive them down. They watch them very carefully and make sure that everybody's safe. It's pretty cool where they have these outside activities as well. It's a little older facility. They have been in business for many, many years. They could use some freshening up of the facilities and so forth. However, it's perfectly clean. It's well maintained, but they could modernize some of the things. Everything is structurally sound. Before my mom moved into this place, they repainted her entire room, ripped out the existing carpet, and put all new carpet in. The place is just perfect. They could offer a few more activities though. I did a lot of searching around town before I made the decision. Their rates are very, very competitive. You get the same as other places that would be charging 30% more. It's a good financial deal.

Clark Retirement at Franklin was very nice. They have all levels of care, from apartments to total care, but they're very expensive. I liked everything I saw. The only thing I didn't like was the price. The staff members were all nice. They have all varieties and types of facilities, and it's a very nice neighborhood close to downtown. They have a salon and an exercise room. For anyone who lives in Grand Rapids, it is a great location, because it's central. It's close to downtown, but it's not in downtown. It's not really north, it's not really south, it's not really east, and it's not really west, it's central.

My husband's dad was in Clark Retirement at Franklin. They have everything in terms of care, so once you go in you can go back and forth between the levels. You're there for as long as you want to be or until you die. It's very large. They have all kinds of things going on. They have very nice facilities. They've got great nursing, Alzheimer's units, and independent living. They have everything there onsite in one building. They also have good food. He was there for almost 6 years. He was independent for a while, and then he moved to the memory care unit eventually. The staff members are very, very nice. The staff is great, very caring, and take really good care of the people. They're friendly and helpful. The building itself is very large. They have everything that you need. It's a good place to be. In terms of food, there's a lot of variety, and there's plenty of it. They make sure everybody gets what they want.

My mother has moved into Clark on Franklin. There were some things that were disappointing. They did not always respond to things very quickly, which was understandable lots of times. There were questions that the person who was handling it was not able to answer. My mother liked it there immediately. She was one happy camper yesterday. She disappeared at lunch time when we checked her in. She did not bother to come back at all so she is very happy there. Their staff is really nice, friendly, and helpful. The problems that we had were really more in the line of communication about the actual room. An example is that the bed was not there because that information did not get passed from one person to another person to make sure that it happened. Also there was some misunderstanding about the balcony because it was not explained to us. She liked the place based in part that she would be able to go sit on the balcony; well, she can't just go sit on her balcony. It is locked up, and she has to have supervision or monitoring. That is the communication problem with the people that are selling the home. My mother had been there a couple of times to visit. She wanted to be driven over there to just look at the building. She was very excited about moving in, having peers, and things like that. She has been a happy camper ever since. She is in the secure memory unit. She will not have to leave that place and that was part of the decision too. She will be here probably until the end of her days, and it will be as familiar as anything can be for her at this point. She loves music, and she went to two things at two different times that involve music. They have wonderful food too. It is a secure unit so everybody gets to be together. They are all there together without any masks, which is kind of a normal environment. She is happy with that. There is a quilting room and flower arranging classes. They usually do several activities every single day. The staff on the floor was exceedingly good. Everything is very pretty and comfortable. The facility is pretty without being too ornate or too over the top. The lighting in the building is very nice. It is a quiet environment. It tends to be quiet and peaceful just walking around the building and to various places. I think it is a good value for how much you get. You can probably get good care less expensively in a less fancy or smaller facility.

Clark Retirement was very nice. They had the best menu of the four places I visited. The dining area was very nice. The menu was the most varied of any of the places I went to. I would rate Clark Retirement a 5 because it had everything I wanted except their prices are higher. It had many good features and probably the best features and the meal plans of any place; however, they have a long waiting list for a one-bedroom with a separate bedroom from the living room. They did have studio apartments, but I didn't want one of those. It was the price and the waiting; otherwise, I would have picked this community.

Residents and staff are friendly, kind and warm. My parents are so busy with activities I have to make an appointment to see them. It gives me great peace of mind to know that whatever their needs are, Clark will be there to provide for them.

When I moved here it was to make sure I wasn't a burden on my family who did not live in this part of the country. I chose Clark Retirement Home because of it's proximity to where I have lived all my life and because of the staff and the environment both inside and outside the actual facility. I find that the common room was something I enjoy using and it helps me learn about my neighbors and some of them have even become friends. The facility is set up with different apartments and is quiet compared to the rest of the city. I feel like I can call this place home. While I don't care for living in this part of the city, the actual facility and the residents here give me comfort and security. Clark Retirement Home has plenty of opportunities to go on excursions and to enjoy my independence.

The employees At Clark Retirement Community are kind, welcoming to guests, and understanding. They treat each and every one of their patients like a loved one, and the amount of time they put into each individuals needs is just the best across the board as far as assisted living goes. The amenities are great as well, and I was impressed by how clean and well put together the facility was. I would recommend Clark to any family struggling with the decision in whether or not to have their loved one admitted to an assisted living facility. You wont be disappointed. The staff at Clark are great people and will make sure to walk you through each step of the process. Clark Retirement Community definitely gets 5 stars in my book.

The facility is very clean, and up to date. The residents seem to enjoy themselves. The residents are able to utilize a quaint cafe for morning coffee and doughnuts. There is also a little convenience store for residents to purchase small amenities and trinkets. The assisted living portion of the facility is beyond adequate for residential living for senior citizens. However, the floors of the facility that require more high level care are lacking the modern look of the assisted living center. Also, the nursing staff to resident ratio is extremely disproportionate, and may border upon unsafe at times. On the day I was visiting, I encountered a nursing shortage that was not covered. This problem was not handled well by the management, and made me think about potential hazards that could occur with this type of negligence. Overall, I fell that this is a great place to visit, but not to stay.

I visited this facility with my friend. She was looking for a place for her mother. All I can say about this place was it was average. It was nothing great or not bad. If you are looking not to spend a lot of money this is the place. Your loved one will receive quality care. It has all the basics but no extras. It is not like all the new fancy facilities with all the bells and whistles. It is a nice clean facility with a friendly staff. They appear to like what they do and the residents appear to be well taken care of and are happy. I would feel comfortable with leaving my loved one here. There is a lot of interaction between the residents and staff. Nobody is just left alone with no attention. I have nothing negative to say about this facility. My friend and I visited a handful of facilities that day and I put this on the approved list. Nothing special but a nice clean place with quality care.

My brother and I have recently helped our 98-year-old mother move into this facility. It has an excellent array of on-going care options at reasonable cost. Our mother is in independent-living at the moment and the staff has worked with her to provide some simple additional services as needed which will allow her to stay in the independent-living area as long as possible. The facility offers a wide variety of recreational activities which have allowed her to keep very active. She has found a Scrabble group (one of her favorite games) and is learning to play pool and has participated in a "lipdub" video.
