"It was another really nice community that I enjoyed. As I toured it, there was a patient coming down the hall. The person leading me a tour stopped and talked to her and asked how she was doing and what was going on. The patient said, "Oh, I’m having a little trouble, and I was going to go down and see if the nurse was in her station.” The person I was with said, “Why don’t you just push your alert button that you’re wearing?” So, she pushed her button while we talked, and in a minute or two, the nurse was there asking what was going on. "I toured Commonwealth Senior Living at North Byron. It's a beautiful facility. It's close to a hospital here in the area. The gal that did the tour was very nice and informative. She provided all of the information that I needed. It was a nice visit. She offered me cookies. The ladies were all talking about their food, and they all seemed to be happy. I saw two residence rooms. They're very nice. It's very good and very spacious. It would be very nice for my mother."

"The room was a great size for 1 person. She was able to have a couch, bed, recliner and little dinner table with 2 chairs. She has a beautiful view of the courtyard and enjoys being pushed by her family around the lovely grounds. The staff are super sweet and take really great care of my mom."

"I saw independent and assisted living at Rivertown Ridge. It's new. The apartments were beautiful and up-to-date, had beautiful finishes, and a large kitchen. It was a nice facility. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They offer transportation to local stores and things like that. They don't have as many onsite amenities as some of the other places we looked at though."

"I loved everything about Boulder Creek Assisted Living & Memory Care. It was very nice, very homey, and very cozy. The only thing I don't like is they have a $4000 "welcome to our community" charge. Pricing was great, everything was great, but they want $4000 for kind of nothing. The person during the tour was great. Everybody, there was great, very friendly, answered all my questions, and took me around. I met the lady who's in charge there. It's a very nice place. I have no qualms about it. The rooms were great. Even the smallest room was quite large. The studio was quite large. I had no problem with the room either. It was very nicely set up and had a good view of the property and the woods. They said they had a lot of activities. I didn't see a lot. I saw they were having a happy hour when I was there and there was a bunch of people sitting there for the happy hour. The staff told me they had activities every day like bingo and stuff like that. There's a beauty salon and an exercise room. The staff seemed fabulous."

"I visited American House Jenison and toured their independent living. I liked the setting of it and the rooms. The people were very friendly and it looked like I could live there. I was very impressed with all of the staff. Nobody offended me or made me feel icky or anything like that. I just felt very comfortable with them. The place looked very clean and organized, and I didn't feel any kind of tension in the building. It just seemed like it was a place I could live in. Some of the rooms had small balconies, and others had a patio, which I appreciate very much because I love to sit outside on my deck. The atmosphere was very calm, and I didn't feel out of place or uncomfortable. It just seemed like a nice place to be."

"Byron Center Manor was good. The staff seemed very helpful and friendly. It was an older facility and that showed a little bit. I looked at the dining area, and it was very nice. Security was good. They had a list of activities that available, with something new every day. "

"My wife and I live in the enhanced neighborhood of the community. We appreciate our spacious apartment since we both have wheelchairs. We were no longer safe in our home, we are happy to be here. We love drumming and therapy, it keeps us busy. Recently, there was a Car show which is always our favorite!! Great place to be."

"My mother is in American House Holland. She's doing quite well. We had a nice team helping us get settled in. We chose it because it's closer to where my family lives. Second, it was the only one that had an opening, and we needed to move in immediately. It's very clean. They've got spacious rooms and they're very private rooms. There's a sitting area, like a little living room area, and then a place for a table. There's a place for a bedroom area around the corner and a nice spacious bathroom. It's very clean and airy. It's a nice facility. The staff has been really good. There's been some changeover, but once the staff is familiar with my mom, they've been really good. Food can be a little lacking. Some of it is because she doesn't have much of an appetite, but the food is OK. I wouldn't say it's great. It's fine. They have at least one or two things every day that you can choose from. They have crafts, and they have a Bible study. They have someone come in and do your nails. They have a beautician who does your hair once a week if you want to have that done. They do bingo. There are a lot of activities, and she's made some nice friends there. They have books and puzzles. They have like a little activity room where they can do things. What I like about the space is that it's small. There are not that many residents in each room. There are six different buildings and her building is smaller, so there's more attentiveness and they get to know each other. They don't have nurses. They have med techs. They don't have CNAs. They have caregivers. The level of quality of care is not quite as high medically as my mom needed when she first got there, but they all did step up to the plate and do what they needed to do, so that's quite good. The facility was nice. It's very expensive. It's all out of pocket."

"The thing I like the most about Woodland Gardens is the price. It's not real fancy, but that's fine because my husband doesn't need fancy, and we don't need to pay for fancy. I like the owners. He was just a very personable guy, and he understood what we were going through. It's only $4,000 a month, and the price will not ever change as long as my husband is there. They aren't going to raise the rate, and that is a good thing. It's out in the country. My husband can go outside and do things which he loves. We got to actually speak with the owner, and he was really thrilled because my husband loves to shovel snow, and he loves to do things outside. He was just a good guy. It's not really a huge place. I just hope that my husband would be happy there."
