"I went to Grand Village Assisted Living. It is laid out exactly the same as where my mom is now, but a couple of years older. The facility was really nice. The guy that did the tour was really nice. It is not as updated as the other place, but it was still very clean and very nice in appearance. They do lots of activities and they had a beauty/barber salon. The staff was very friendly. It is kept up very well, and it felt very homey. There were residents hanging out in the living area and some of them in the dining area finishing up lunch or something."

"Rivertown Ridge is a really nice place. They have their own laundry in every room, and they do housekeeping and linens biweekly. They have activities in different parts of the facility. The staff was awesome and did a really thorough job. The rooms are beautiful. Even the assisted living is really awesome. It's open and you have a view in the back or you can have a traffic view in the front. We really liked it. The apartments for independent and the assisted living are mixed together, and the memory care is on the second floor, but it's all in one building. They have a pub where you could get your breakfast or your lunch and a fine dining room for meals at night. Meals are included in the rent."

"I went to Byron Center Manor. It was very clean and neat, and very comfortable looking. The patrons seemed to be very friendly. I saw a one-bedroom, studio type thing. The staff was very nice. I just went in, viewed the kitchen area, I didn't get a chance to get friendly with anybody, I just went through the hall, down to the bedroom, and back out. It was all they would allow. There wasn't much of a yard. The apartment had a sink and microwave, and could fit a full-size bed, couch, chair, and a small table."

"My husband was here. He enjoyed the food, he told me many times, and the staff treated him very well. He knew all of them and talked with them. His room was a nice size, had plenty of light, had its own bathroom, and was nice. He was in the memory unit and they had all kinds of games for the residents to play, and they brought in musical performances for them. He's legally blind so it was very hard for him to participate in a lot of the stuff that he couldn't see but they did try to think of whatever they could for him to do."

"Mom has been living here for about four years now. The staff is very well trained and very kind. It’s a small community, just about 40 rooms. They also offer lots of activities, about four or five activities every day. They have a bus that takes people to outings. So the facility is very, very nice. The staff are very personable and very caring and really spent time with each resident and their family members. I would totally recommend them to anybody."

Your knowledge, understanding of our Dad and our family; as well as the medical assistance, guiding us in the right direction, will always be highly regarded. We thank you and Don, for staying with our Dad and our family…until the very end. You both showed that the individual, came first, in every decision you made regarding my Dad. That is amazing. We thank both of you for being genuine people and business individuals. Thank you for the caring spirit and the human factor you always provided. It wasn’t about the business, but the human element. Robbinswood is so lucky to have the both of you and the amazing aids: Sonja, Jeff, Leslie, Andrea, Theresa and others just to name a few. The aids made Dad feel comfortable and special each day. "We went to Walnut Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care. The rooms were large. They had microwaves and refrigerators, which was nice, and were more furnished than some of the others. The communal space was very limited. It was really one large dining area/activity area. Some of the other places had little tables where people were playing dominoes and that kind of thing. This really only had one larger room, which was serviceable, but it just didn't feel as comfortable. Our experience with the staff was very good. They've repeatedly called with follow-ups, asking if we have any questions or anything like that. They've been very helpful."

"I liked the American House Spring Lake. I thought it was nice. I liked the location and the facilities. The person I talked to was also very nice. The rooms were spacious and very homey, and I liked the views out the windows. She also showed me where they eat, the library, the activity room, and the exercise room. She showed me a little bit of everything and kind of explained the different activities they had. The facility was very well maintained. Everything was clean and looked very good. Once a week, they have a bus that will take them out and about."

"My grandfather chose Northview Manor as an assisted living option for my grandmother after she suffered multiple strokes. He spent every waking hour at Northview Harbor, and our family would visit multiple times a week. The facilities and staff were always well kept and accommodating. Meals were always provided for any additional family who were present during meal time, and various programs to keep the residents entertained were classy and professional. As unfortunate as the circumstances were, my grandmother was able to spend her last months in relative comfort. "

"I toured Harbor Homes Norton Shores. The rooms were smaller than I'd seen in other places, but other than that, they had great service, good staff, and good people. The staff was very friendly, answered questions, spent the time I needed, and was very knowledgeable. The residents knew her. It was a very hands-on kind of thing, and they had ample meeting rooms."

"Providence nursing home was a decent nursing home. The food was average, the activities seemed redundant and failed to involve many of the residents, and the facilities seemed outdated. In visiting, I found that many of the patients were interacted with very little and were generally neutral on how they felt towards the nursing home. Many expressed displeasure with the rules that they were placed under. Also, the residents on more than one occasion made comments on how little interest they had in the daily activities and how the daily schedule of meals, bathing and occasional exercise was inconvenient and bothersome. The staff however did seem competent and caring, and attempted to address the needs and requests of patients when they were brought to their attention. I did appreciate the efforts to incorporate faith into the everyday life of the patients if they wished to be a part of it, and this actually was one of the positive things that the majority of patients I visited with commented on. Overall, an average nursing home. "

"We also went to Appledorn. I have a friend who lives there. They clean her apartment every other week. I am extremely familiar with that one. They have a huge community there, quite a bit of acres. They offer independent, assisted, and nursing home. There’s a separate building for each. My friend lives in a brand-new one that just opened a year ago in October. They serve one meal a day in the evening. However, they pretty much always have fruit baskets out, cookies, or crackers. They have pull-strings in every room, so that is a beautiful community, just absolutely beautiful. "
