"American House Spring Lake was a wonderful place. My mother liked it a lot, so we're having some discussion over it. We are trying to see what we're gonna do. The designs of the apartments were wonderful. They're spacious, and they looked like home. It's not just one room, so it's really nice. We actually spent some time in the independent area because that was the one that seemed to fit my mother's needs right now, but we were in the assisted living. We saw a couple of different places, and that looked very adequate for anyone that would've needed it. We met a couple staff members, and they were very friendly and very informative. We met one of the chefs, and she was really informative, too. I was really satisfied with this place."

"American House Holland seems to be a nice area for respite care only for a week. It's clean, and I didn't smell anything when I walked there. It seems to be an organized place for seniors. It's very convenient and quiet. The staff who accommodated me was friendly and nice. The room she showed me was big enough for one person. It's clean and organized, but we have to bring our own stuff. They only provided a bed for my father. The common room is more where people can play some acuity games or whatever. It's not that big a place, but they have activities."

"My mother moved to American House Jenison a couple of weeks ago. The care is very good, and I have no complaints. The staff is also very good. Cathy is her charge nurse, and she keeps me updated a couple times a week. Her room is very large and very nice. The food is OK. She just feeds on puree, so nothing tastes good. In terms of value for the money, it's quite high, but it's the best we could do at the time. They try to keep her busy. I'm very satisfied with the care so far."

"The room are of a good size for my mothers needs. Maintenance does very a nice job keeping thing in good working order. Floor staff are very friendly and caring toward my mothers needs. The food is very good and my mother enjoys not having to prepare food and cleaning up dishes anymore. She loves waiting in anticipation to see what surprises they are serving that particular day. She also enjoys having her family come and enjoy a meal with her throughout the week. Mother seems to enjoy the interaction with others at the many activities that are provided to residents. She plans her week around key activities that interest her."

"Rivertown Ridge was a nice place, but I'm not into the position where I need to be looked after. It really wouldn't do me any good to be there. I'm pretty active myself. It was a very clean place, and the staff was very friendly. It's a good layout. They got assisted living on one side, and they have your independent living on the other."

"The Village at the Pines’ is the most active. It is a good choice. We had lunch, and the meals were all pretty good, good cooks and nutritious meals. The people that we talked to were very happy; they like living there, and it has a nice setting. "

"When Mom was recovering from a TIA in a nursing home, she realized how much she enjoyed living with other people. For thirty years after Daddy died, she had lived alone. Gradually her physical stamina had diminished and her world grew smaller and smaller. Less driving, no longer able to attend church, she decided that she didn't want to go ut back to an empty house. After visiting all the available assisted living facilities in the Grand Haven area, I took her to Christian Haven. We toured the facility and as we left, Mom said, "This is the only place that speaks to my spirit." I could rave about the fabulous made-from-scratch food, the 15 activities each week, the phenomenal medical staff, the gentle shower aids, and the immaculate housekeeping. All are amazing. But the spiritual, emotional, and intellectual nurturing is is priceless. Mom is happy, safe, and content. I thank God every day for Christian Haven. "

"My brother moved into The Village at Rosy Mound. They had an opening, so we didn't have to be on the long waitlist, and the price points were good. The facility is very nice. They have great activities. They've got a great new activity director and they're doing all kinds of things and she's adding some stuff. They've got meals available five nights a week, a brunch two mornings a week. The staff has been great, all of them. The residents are very friendly. Nice place. It's only five years old. It's got a lot of closet storage. He's in a two bedroom, two bath. The staff is competent and helpful. They've got a beautiful library with a fireplace and books and jigsaw puzzles going. They had the spring high school jazz band performing here yesterday. A couple talked about an Iditarod dog race experience and brought one of the dogs with them that had run the race the other day when I was here. They have daily euchre and pinochle clubs and knitting and crochet club. They've got a huge arts and crafts room and woodshop for people to work in. They've got a game room with tables and a pool table that you can reserve for family events too. It's nice. They've got an aviary up on the second floor, on the balcony area. The thing is full like an eight-foot glass case with birds and you can listen to the birds and live birds and watch them. They've got an agenda each day. The activities director had just recently contacted our club to see if somebody from our club would come and talk about birds to them. And so we've got three programs that we're doing for the community coming up, and she's looking to do a series of that. So there's just a lot of interesting things. For people who need independent living. I would highly recommend it. There's a hair salon in here too. You can get your hair done here. They also bring in a hearing aid person and a podiatrist that makes regular visits for the residents to make appointments. They've got housekeeping that you can pay extra for."

"We'd like to get into Darley Village. It was new, clean, bright, and cheery. Skyler, I think he helps everyone, he was very pleasant and helpful. We liked that it was active, there weren't a lot of people sitting around in wheelchairs. They do a movie night, they have a playroom for when grandkids come to visit, they have an exercise room, and they have a little cafe which is a coffee gathering place. They also have a bistro for dining and it's ala carte, so you can order what you want when you want to. You don't have to take a whole meal plan. There was an older section that they are planning on updating."

"I lived at Nelson Place Apartments three different times. The people were really friendly. The facility itself was very nice. They had a bus that would take you shopping and to all your doctor's appointments. Where it's located, you've got things to do around there. For activities, they had bingo, they had a movie theater, they had a small grocery store where you can buy things that you run out of. They had an exercise room, too. It was independent, so everybody did their own cooking."

"The Warm Friend (Resthaven) is a former hotel so the rooms are smaller. Its located downtown, where all the sidewalks are heated so theres no snow or ice in the winter, and has all the stores and restaurants available to it. Its a very nice place. The staff is great, and the food is really good. They have the same activities as the other community Ive visited. The storage space in the rooms are cramped, there are air-conditioning and washers and dryers in the rooms."

"I am a resident of Royal Atrium Inn. It is very nice. I'm very happy here. The atmosphere and the people working here are wonderful. They are very good. I have a lovely room; it's very nice. I have a living room and a bedroom. I'm on a special diet, so the person in charge of the kitchen has been very helpful. They have the usual activities and different things every day. If you want to do anything, there's something to do. There is the outdoor stage, which is a lovely space, and a pool. The atmosphere all year is beautiful. The staff right now is shorthanded like every other place. But the staff that are here are very, very good."

"The major difference between Royal Park Place and the others we visited was the contract agreement for staying there. At Royal Park Place, they either lease or you can actually purchase a unit, which is quite unique, but in terms of offerings relative to others, it's pretty much similar. The rooms and the facilities were nice, they had nice grounds, and the dining facility was fine. They didn't have any availability at that time, but it was a very nice place."

"We went to Waverly Meadows. It sits on 16th Street, which is a main street here in Holland. I met some people there that I know. I’ve been there for like 14 years. They offered a laundry room, but it costs. It costs a quarter to run the washer and the dryer. They did not serve any meals there. But they seemed to have a pretty close-knit family-type situation there. The people that were managing were so nice too. They also have on-the-grounds units that are one floor. So you would enter the building, and there would be a couple of units you would go to. That’s what my sister really, really liked. But the long hallway kind of bothered both of us. You have to go down to this long hallway, and then you open your door. You are in the hallway and not outside. The cost was affordable for her in that community. It’s an older community. "

"I made an appointment to visit The Village at Appledorn thinking of possibly living there. It's clean and airy. It is very small, but they have a kitchen. It was a one-bedroom-one-bath. They assist with cleaning, handyman maintenance, and other things. On each floor, there is a laundry facility that I didn't have to save my quarters for. It was included in the cost. They offer meals as you want. You can pay extra for them. So, if I didn't feel like cooking supper one day, and I had let them know ahead of time, I could go and get supper downstairs in the dining room. They have on-site exercise facilities and activities. The staff member who assisted me was the director, but she wasn't very friendly."
