"I called here two days ago and talked with April and found her to be informative and helpful. Although your apartments are not section 8 or Humana friendly, and I am not able to proceed. I can tell just by speaking with April that she did not judge me for my mother's current situation of homelessness and she was nothing but compassionate and listened to me and even though she doesn't know this but my day was made a little better now because of her. If I'm ever able to refer anyone that can afford those prices I will consider The Oaks."

"We'd like to get into Darley Village. It was new, clean, bright, and cheery. Skyler, I think he helps everyone, he was very pleasant and helpful. We liked that it was active, there weren't a lot of people sitting around in wheelchairs. They do a movie night, they have a playroom for when grandkids come to visit, they have an exercise room, and they have a little cafe which is a coffee gathering place. They also have a bistro for dining and it's ala carte, so you can order what you want when you want to. You don't have to take a whole meal plan. There was an older section that they are planning on updating."

"Liberty Woods was a wonderful community. They have an elevator, but we wanted one level living. They have bingo and gardening. I would recommend the place. "

"It is a really small place, so everyone is kind of together. They don't really have a unit for one thing or another there. It is a Christian oriented place, so there is an emphasis on faith for people like church services. They have lots of things for people to do. It's older, so it's not as modern as some. The rooms are very small, and they don't have a lot of rooms for couples there. It's more oriented towards single people. The lady that took us around was very nice, knowledgeable, and kind. They realize they don't have some of the things that a bigger place might have, but they really emphasize community. People will be well known because there's not that many people there. It's different than being in a great big place where you kind of get lost in the shuffle. They had a little sun porch that you could go on, and they had meals."

"The Village at the Pines’ is the most active. It is a good choice. We had lunch, and the meals were all pretty good, good cooks and nutritious meals. The people that we talked to were very happy; they like living there, and it has a nice setting. "

"I toured The Village at Rosy Mound. It was bright and cheerful. The people were friendly. I liked the option of their meal plan wherein you can purchase only what you want, so you're not into a three-meals-a-day plan; that's so expensive. They had a beauty parlor. They had a lot of senior activities and trips they took them on. I think once a week, maybe twice, they went on shopping trips. The staff who gave the tour was very helpful and very interested. Time wasn't an issue. She spent lots of time showing us things and answering questions."

"I was at The Depot. It was OK. They were a little slow getting things attended to, but it wasn't a bad place. The staff was all right. They don't supply food. I participated in the bingo and special potlucks and stuff we had."

"I visited The Brook of Newaygo. They do independent living and assisted living. They furnish meals, one is included in their price, but the rest you pay. They had a nice beautiful facility and a theater for movies. They didn't have garages or carports available. They said they had an aerobics program for those that could. It was nice, clean, and very pretty. I didn't see much of the staff, but the manager was friendly and helpful. They showed me the one-bedroom in the independent living and they had it in assisted living as well. The rooms were average size. They had a kitchenette, a bedroom, a living area, and a dining area."

"My mother went into Meadowlark Retirement Village for a couple of weeks when my husband and I went on vacation. She really liked it there. So when she started getting bad, she said she wanted to go back there. The staff is wonderful, the place is nice and clean, very well-kept and it doesn't smell like a nursing home. I ate a couple of times with my mother and I thought the food was excellent. But I think the price is a little bit high. I guess all nursing homes is quite high. Other than that, everything is good. I can't find anything negative about them. "

"The Cottages at Allen Springs offer a cottage instead of an apartment, and it has a garage. It is all on one level, which is important. They also offer many activities, and the rental cost includes all utilities, even the Internet. The woman who assisted me was knowledgeable and friendly. It was immaculately clean, very appealing visually, and very nicely decorated. The atmosphere was calm and interesting. The cottage was very, very spacious."

"The Warm Friend (Resthaven) is a former hotel so the rooms are smaller. It’s located downtown, where all the sidewalks are heated so there’s no snow or ice in the winter, and has all the stores and restaurants available to it. It’s a very nice place. The staff is great, and the food is really good. They have the same activities as the other community I’ve visited. The storage space in the rooms are cramped, there are air-conditioning and washers and dryers in the rooms."
