"Hillside Senior Apartments is a small community. The residents I met seemed to be very nice and friendly. The management team seemed to be very efficient. I like the units themselves. They were very nice and they have a few upgraded amenities where they have marble countertops and updated appliances. The bathrooms are nice, too. My only complaint is that they don't have the most closet space, but they say they have extra storage. So, that kind of compensates for that. It's a great community. The staff is excellent. It was very clean. The structure seemed to be fine. It used to be an old hotel that they had converted into senior living, and it's very nice, but they don't have an elevator service in all the buildings. They just have it in a couple of buildings. The layout was nice. The size of the rooms were a little small, but they're about the standard size of a one-bedroom senior apartment."

"I went to Hessler Heights Gracious Retirement Living. The staff was friendly. It was clean and bright with lots of natural lighting. The amenities seemed adequate, and as far as their activities and provided transportation, I liked that all the meals were included. It was all inclusive. Those are some of the things. It was very open and inviting. It has just kind of a very fresh and joyful feel to it. This community seems cheerful, bright, and clean. The gentleman that took us on the tour was very helpful. The activities director that we met was very helpful and friendly. They're both very kind, helpful, and patient."

"My friend has lived at Eltern Haus for 9 years. She has been one of their more difficult residents. She did not want to be there and didn’t mind saying so. Then, she had to move to another facility for a while and all I heard was, “I want to go back to Eltern Haus.” The staff is attentive and caring. The nurses are WONDERFUL! Staff has done everything they can to make my friend happy and have been very attentive to her physical needs. EH is very homey. Food is vegetarian. I would highly recommend Eltern Haus. "

"I liked Wingler House. The apartment was pretty nice. The bathroom was a little small, and the kitchen was a little small, but it had a pantry for the kitchen, which I liked. The person who toured me was fine, but not very pleasant. They had more activities than some of the others, like exercise classes. They also had vans that go places."

"Victory Court Senior Apartments would meet my needs, but it's just that I don't have enough income to qualify. They showed a one-bedroom. It's comparable to where I am now, so it would meet my needs. It was clean coming into the facility. They had all of the amenities that would be able to keep a senior active, like an exercise area and outside area where you could have a little garden. The staff is very patient, informative, and told me not to give up. They told me some ways to get the income increased."

"We went here. They were very thorough. They showed me the facilities. The residents I met when I was walking around inside said that they were happy there and they love the food there. They have a chef and her soup and pastry were very highly praised. They had a small patio area in the back, though the inside was a little bit tighter. They have different levels of care. The places they showed me were vacant. I was told that the residents can bring their own stuff. I particularly looked at a studio and a one-bedroom. The staff during the tour was great and very energetic. She's very new, but she did great. She also called me back and followed up with what I decided. The dining hall looked very nice and very clean. They have a little flower vase on each table. The menu was right by the door. I even have a copy, and they publish that weekly. They're right by Route 7. My first impression of the parking lot was it was a little tight because they share the same entrance with a physical therapy rehab center and that center is very busy. It's a very busy parking lot. If their residents needed any therapy or rehab, it's right across the parking lot and it's very convenient. After rehab, some residents move into their facility."

"I toured Cascades Village Apartments. The apartment was lovely and nice, but it was on the second floor, very far away from the elevator, and I was in a wheelchair. Some people who are in a wheelchairs might find this a lovely place. These facilities were good. The kitchens had cool, full-size appliances, and it was very nice. It wasn't too expensive, and they have laundry facilities, although they were in the apartment, which you could use. You had to pay to use it and put money on some card you used on the machines. The staff was very knowledgeable, took me around, and showed me what was available. She was very good. There was a room for activities and a couple of other things."

"I went to Bedford Court. It was a little bit out of my price range and the price was the least I liked about it. The price was a bit much. The staff were very kind and professional. The facility was clean, seemed to be very comfortable, and well maintained. They had a courtyard. They had a transportation, which is important for me. They're able to take me there and bring me back. They offered transportation to the doctor's appointment, too. So that was one amenity that I found to be necessary and that I would appreciate very much. I found everything to be very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. They showed me both studio and one-bedroom, and I particularly like the one-bedroom, which is a bit pricey and out of my range that I could afford. I looked at the efficiency as well. It was tidy and small, but efficient."

"It was my second option where my mom would stay. It was a smaller community compared to the one she was in. The apartment set-up was lovely with a bedroom, living room, little kitchen, a back patio or a den. They had the activities I looked for to maintain my mom's active lifestyle. However, it was too far away from my house."

"The Cascades of Frederick was nicer than the other place I toured. The staff was very nice. The rooms were very nice. It's a brand-new building. They had a rec room, a library-type room where you can go in and read books, and a small exercise room. If I was going to stay in Maryland, I probably would go there."

"I am living in Edenton. It is a wonderful place to live. It is an assisted living and they have independent living apartment, and some Alzheimer's/dementia areas and rooms. I am in one of the independent living's two-bedroom apartments. It has one bedroom on each side and two entrances. I think it was originally made out so that if you have a caregiver who is living with you, they can utilize one of the bedrooms. It can also be for couples. I do have a full kitchen -- they just remodeled it last year. I have a dishwasher and wood laminated floors in the kitchen. I have a refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, granite countertop and its very nice. I have a living room in the center and two full baths a well and they are handicap accessible with bars. It doesn't have a lot of closet space, but I have a storage unit. It is small but its fine for me. There are also some studio apartments and town house units with one bedroom upstairs.They have a lifeline that you can ring if you need assistance. They also have outlets for telephone. The director is absolutely fabulous. The staff is wonderful. They have assisted aides who take the people around in their wheelchairs if they need to go to some of the events. It helps the people to go out. I can't say enough about them and I don't utilize a lot of their services because I am in the independent living. They have 24-hour security. They have a restaurant and many people eat there. You can have three meals a day in the restaurant if you desire. However, I don't eat there because I cook my own meal. They have a nice calendar of events every month for people to take advantage of. They have activities at Frederick Community College where they go out to some concerts or things out there. They take people who want to go to the baseball team and outings. They have bus transportation for the residents if someone who doesn't drive needs transportation. They have their own beauty shops and it is very self-contained, if you want it to be. They have a small chapel in the restaurant building and they have services there on Sunday afternoon. They have bingo in what they call the manor house, which is the main building. They have trivia and exercise classes for seniors. I take advantage of those. There are a group of people who are pretty active and a lot of them go to the exercise class that I go to, and we also have a chorus for men and women who like to sing. It can be as homey and unhomey as you want it to be. It depends on what you participate in and do. It has a very friendly atmosphere and the people are wonderful. I will recommend it to seniors who are independent but I think they also have an outstanding care in the assisted living area and you have rehab services available in the campus as well. "

"Country Meadows in Frederick has been a life saver for our family. We had to transition my mom from an independent living facility in Virginia to an assisted living facility. We chose Country Meadows due to a number of things but right off the bat was the communication we received from Debbie S. She was outstanding during this process and was so patient with me and all the questions I had. Every employee had a great attitude and was so nice to my mom. My mom has met new friends and really seems to like her new surroundings. If I have questions or concerns I can email or call and I will receive a quick response. To me that is so important. I highly recommend this facility and when you do I am sure Debbie S. and Amy M. will impress you to a point where this place would be the best option for your loved one. "
