"Yikes, this area makes me nervous! It is the northeast area of town, but not the pretty part. The property is a typical low income housing development. Not much in landscape or aesthetics, but the residents do mingle quite a bit. Some of the residents said there have been problems from the outside here. There is a site coordinator who keeps an eye to things. Alot of program happens here, so you will see Meals on Wheels, Commodities, Aging programs and such. There is also church and social presence here. That is great for those that need it. If you have options, look elsewhere. "

"I went to Oxford Vista Wichita. They took over an old home, and so they had updated part of that. They had apartments there that were in a price range that was lower than the others. It's kind of a rounded building, and it's a big one. It covers about two blocks. At one end they have some assisted living, and at the other end they have memory care. They said they don't have staff that aren't working there all day, and they bring in third party home health care providers. My sister had told me that of all the ones that she thought, Oxford Vista had the most all-around environment and community, and that people seemed to be the friendliest, not just with everybody, but with new people. The residents themselves were just friendly. The place was big and spacious. We ate there, and it was a good meal. They have a lounge there with a bar and a pool table. It would be at the top of my list. The second biggest thing about Oxford Vista is its affordability for me right now. They seemed to be well coordinated with each other. We met some of them in the hallway or in the elevator, and everybody was just very friendly. It seemed well organized. We had quesadillas, and I got a salad with it. The dessert was good. It was like ice cream, but it looked like rice that was kind of held together. It was flavorful. They have a menu, and if you don't want to eat that, you could get something else that they could put together for you, like a sandwich. We were impressed by how nice it was. The staff had been there for 12 years, and she said, "When we moved in, we just moved in, and everything was left in very good condition." The walls are really high like an old building. The wood column was in good shape. There was nice carpeting. The elevator was not rickety or anything like that. They had garages. They were big enough that a lot of people would have room for storage. It was something I was pleased with just by looking at them and how wide they were."

"I live in Plaza North Senior Residences and I like that you have to have a key to get in, so you can't just walk inside. The apartments are nice, but it's just they're too close to each other. I wanted something bigger. They have washer and dryer facilities, and in front of my apartment building is a center that has an exercise room that I go to, and you can participate in games and stuff like that. They don't have dining services because you can do your own cooking in your own kitchen."

"I have chosen Sheridan Village and it's working well for me. I would recommend this place. It's nice here, clean, and comfortable. I also feel safe here. The people are really nice. I have a stove, a refrigerator, and a full kitchen in my apartment. We have a laundry room. They offer a lot of things here to get you through whatever you need. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They just put in a new furnace in my apartment because the old one wasn't working very efficiently. They provide really good food. Once a month, they have a dinner where you can bring something and we all get together and visit and get to know each other. They also have different other programs going on. They have a calendar of activities they put out. You'll just have to check which ones you're interested in. They have a lot of areas to gather. It's an affordable place compared to others. Some of the residents have been here for 15 years, so I'm sure others are going to like it here too."

"This senior high rise is located in the far north and east side of the city. It is not an area of town I would reommend. The property is not well maintained and there is no landscaping to speak of. In all honesty, it's kind of scary...you know, the hairs on your neck stand up when you walk in. They do have a site coordinator, but it says something when there is a frequent turnover in that position. Rent is based on income, but there are better choices for independent living. "

"Good choice for those with limited income. Just north of 21st Street in the northwest area of town. Kind of a Plain Jane in terms of aesthetics, but the apartments are affordable and security is good. There are a lot of pretty, mature trees around the high rise and it is conveniently located near shopping and medical buildings. A site coordinator keeps an eye out for the residents and gets the word out if they need additional supports. Good opportunities for socialization with an exercise room, pool table, beauty salon and library right on site. Also has a nice community room. "

"This is independent living apartments in the north central part of the city. Mennonite Housing built and manages this complex and they do a great job. The apartments are spacious and clean and the on-site manager keeps an eye on the residents. There is a library with computers, a community room, scheduled activities and a nicely landscaped courtyard. Great opportunities for social connections. See lots of lunches and group walkers. Rent is very reasonable. Wait list for apartment probable. "

"I toured Regal Plaza. The property was well kept up. The staff was attentive and made you feel more comfortable. The rooms have their own kitchen. They have a library, exercise room, and computer room."

"its a beautiful complex,management and staff really work hard to do up keep on the building..everyone heres like family, theres ladys night, mens night, pot lucks,just a great place to live, nice quiet an friendly/they do a big thanksgiving and cristmas."

"Everything at Georgetown Village is fine; I am satisfied. The staff is always right on time when something needs to be done or my mom needs something else. The activities were good; they played bingo, music programs, and movies. The dining area is fine, but she is a little disappointed with the food. She doesn’t really care for their offerings. "

"I think Prairie Homestead is absolutely, positively wonderful. I like the committment that the staff has in servicing. I like their kindness and the social worker is absolutely wonderful. They have really good activities and they include a lot of their people in on them."

"Nothing fancy-schmancy here, but ia good subsidized senior housing choice. Located in the south central part of the city, The manor is a high rise apartment complex that has ammenities that help keep folks independent. There is a site manager that knows everyone. It helps to have eyes and ears on seniors. Relationship building is a common positive outcome of this type of living. Activities and limited transportation available. The apartments are good sized and well maintained. Not much for grounds, but security is good. Many residents are on programs for help with home care or home health. Good information flow to seniors that might need help. "

"I have lived at Greenway Manor for the last 10 years. It is not the best but not as bad as some would have you to believe.. I feel safe here. Have not had any problems with other residents or management staff. Greenway Manor is just as good as any other apartment complex in this city. "

"Eternal thanks to Roxanne and her staff at Charlotte Bethel House for caring for mom until her final days. Roxanne closely monitored mom and how her body was responding to prescribed medications. She advocated for quality care and consulted with her doctors to ensure that mom was getting the best balance of medication. Mom was able to maintain dignity as her caregivers provided consistent, loving attention to her needs although her physical strength and mental health were declining. Mom could be resistant at times, but she was always treated with the utmost respect. Roxanne understood that mom came from a generation when elders were never called by their first name, so she always addressed her as Ms. ____. She would say, “Now , Ms. ___ , I’m gonna need you to let these ladies help you. Stop fighting with them because that haven’t done nothing but be nice and try to help you. You can’t try to do everything by yourself anymore, so let them do their job and help you.” Mom jokingly called Roxanne “The Warden,” because she knew that Roxanne was in charge now – not her. We all laughed when we saw that mom had finally met her match and couldn’t just walk over Roxanne. Our family could not have asked for anything more."
