"We went with Family Health & Rehabilitation Center. My wife is in total nursing care there. In the house that she's in, they have a nurse, some aides, and a couple of people that are in between. They're taking care of like 20 people in that house, people that are in skilled nursing and needing attention. Sometimes it's a wait when you push the button before they get there, but I think they do a pretty good job. I don't see any of them just sitting around. I think they're busy, but that's the big problem. The staff are very helpful. They're not grouchy or grumpy or anything. They're there to help you and they do a good job of it. The rooms there are very nice. For that type of service, there's probably some of the largest rooms of the places that I visited and looked at. My son and daughter-in-law, two grandkids, plus a few other people were in the room all at the same time, and it wasn't really crowded. It's pretty spacious. There's a refrigerator in each room and a nice bathroom with a roll-in shower. I have a niece that is an interior decorator, and she got pictures on the walls and stuff, so she got the room looking really nice. Every room has a window. The rooms are clean, and they have a nice little closet for my wife to have enough clothes that I don't have to do laundry once a week. They have pretty much the same type of food that most places have. It's not anything fancy, unless they're having a special occasion. They have like chicken and dumplings. I have tasted their meals because my wife never eats all of her meals, and so if I'm out there during a meal, I get about a half of what's on her plate. It's decent. It's very good food. It's nourishing and filling. For the ones that can't see well, they order something like a sandwich for almost every meal, because seeing food on the plate, getting it into a spoon, and getting it in your mouth sometimes is hard. If you don't want what they have on the special for the day, you can order about anything you want. For activities they just had a magic show this week. They do a lot of special activities for holidays and things. They put on their own fireworks show for the Fourth. They had steak dinner for the guys for Father's Day. They have entertainment, some of them are paid entertainment, and some of them are just people who want to come in and sing a few songs for them. Then they have crafts, and there were a bunch of ladies learning to crochet the other day. A couple of times a month they have a day where they'll take every color in the world of nail polish around and polish nails and things like that. They have a beauty shop there on campus where ladies can get your haircuts and get primped up a little. The facilities are excellent. They have nice common areas with a large television and all that stuff, and anything you want to do."

"We are incredibly grateful for the care our mother received at Medicalodge of Goddard. The staff ( from the administrator, all the nursing staff, to the kitchen staf, and housekeeping staff) treated mom like family, providing not only professional care but also warmth and compassion. The food was always made with love, and you could tell it was prepared with great attention to detail. We felt confident and comforted knowing she was in such a caring environment. She had her favorite staff and you know who you are."

"My brother moved into Wilson Care And Rehabilitation. They seem like they are very professional. They have a lot of CNAs and nurses around. My brother just fit in well. The staff members are around him all the time, help him, and watch him close. My brother likes home cooking, and they have a lot of home cooking. They keep them busy all the time. The school kids come through there and sing for them. They have a lot of activities there."

"My brother gets good care ,and he says that the food is good. He is able to pay the monthly cost with KanKare help. "

"Nursing homes can be scary places. I regularly visit and volunteer at nursing homes and different kinds of care facilities. Sandpiper was clean, the activities were organized and they have large open family style areas for gatherings of all kinds. The activity directors plan events that residents enjoy. They always have enough helpers around so that I am comfortable interacting with residents. I particularly enjoy when I sing at Sandpiper. They have a little chapel with a piano that opens to a larger area to accommodate more people. I have eaten with the residents and the food is very good. They take care to see to the needs of those who have special diets. Even sugar free ice cream for diabetics! I had to visit with the social worker at the center once because I had a concern about a resident and she listened carefully to me and took action immediately. I really appreciated that. "

"Oxford Vista Wichita is really big, airy, clean, and well kept. At the time, they had just opened this wing, so the staff was pretty limited, but we knew that was going to change. They seem to have quite a range of activities, but my father isn't interested in doing any of it. They have a common area where I've seen people gathering with a TV and everything. I know that they do different activities because they've even come to his room when I'm there visiting and offered him to come and join, and he has declined. He usually eats in his room. He seems to enjoy the food, and it's pretty good. They have a real nice common area for people that want to be more social."

"I have no complaints about Medicalodge. They're all great and caring people. They really care about the patients as well as their families. "

"From the moment my mother walked through these doors she was cared for and loved with great activities and the best food in town. She had a great-sized room unfettered by architectural impediments, so we were able to load familiar furniture in with choices as to placement. The in-room kitchenette allowed us to have private meals with Mom from time to time. The bathrooms were well-appointed with a great walk/roll-in shower. "

"Villa Maria is extremely clean. My friend is there. It's been remodeled in the last couple of three years. All of their semi-private rooms were more like private rooms. There's a room and a little hallway that has a bathroom with a toilet and a sink in it. Then there is just a small, short curtain. You don't really ever have to interact with your roommate or see them if you don't intentionally do it. The upkeep is excellent, and the layout is fine. There's a lot of walking to do. I would highly recommend this for anyone who needs a place to put a senior."

"My wife is in Derby Health & Rehab. They're an excellent facility. It is relatively new and it is a community-type thing. They have assisted living and independent living, and they even have a dialysis center on campus. There are four buildings that are all connected for rehab and long-term care and their facilities are very nice. Their rooms are a pretty good size. There's plenty of room to have four or five chairs in there. Last Monday was my wife's birthday and they have a conference room and we had 26 people there. They allowed us to bring in the cake and the whole thing. She had a great birthday here. The staff is all very friendly. They work very hard to make your life comfortable while you're here. Everybody has cranky moments, but for the most part, they are willing participants and take care of your needs. I was here for 33 days this year after I had a DKA and they did everything they could to help me out. Their therapists are excellent. They will do everything they can to gently drive you to get better. I had to learn how to walk and how to be a one-legged man for a while. I went home with the confidence that I could take care of myself without any problem. They take care of my wife. We've been looking for a place now for a week and have not succeeded in finding a place to get out of here. Just because we were supposed to have left a week ago doesn't mean that they aren't still taking care of my wife in an excellent fashion. It's a great place to be. They don't have any openings for long-term care right now. In the meantime, we're here waiting to find someplace and they're still taking care of her. They're not doing any physical therapy right now. They've got an excellent staff. I have not met anyone on staff who wasn't a real helper for the patients. I had eaten their meals. They could stand to improve there a little bit. They serve good food, but sometimes not. Some of their combinations are at least not to my palate. You get an ample amount of food. You can get service in your room or at the common table. It is very expensive though. This place is probably comparable to most facilities that have skilled nursing. They have activities every day. They have bingo at least three times a week. They play dominoes and cards, and they have little ice cream socials and a lot of different activities. No matter who you are, you can probably find something that is to your interest. They make sure that you have an opportunity to be involved in activities."

"I have a dear friend that was a resident of the LakePoint West Facility. I visited every month from out of town for 2-3 days each visit for the almost 4 years he was there. I found the staff to be caring and they treated my friend with dignity. As a facility that likely has mostly Medicaid patients, I think they do a fabulous job with the patients they care for there. The architecture and furnishings may be a bit dated but compared to other facilities that provide care to primarily Medicaid patients I have visited, it is a palace. Be careful not to judge a book by its cover. It's the people that make a long term care facility a good place for your loved ones."

"I just had a call from Glenise in full care. She knew that I was frustrated about not being able to see my Mother and therefore I was concerned about her care. Glenise talked with me for almost an hour answering my questions and putting my mind at ease. She even suggested a couple of things that I can do to keep communicating with Mom. Because of Glenise I feel so much happier and confident that Mom is in the right place."

"Meridian Home (Meridian Nursing And Rehabilitation Center) was wonderful. They have a textile room, a game room, and a room where they let the residents rest before and after meals. They did have a courtyard and my mother-in-law would have liked to go in there. It is off the dining room, so what's cool about it is, as you eat, and if you sitting in the right place in the dining room, you can see the birds and ducks that come down. The staff members are very friendly and very open about what they were doing."
