We've decided on Oxford Villa in Wichita. My dad just fell in love with it, and that's where he wanted to go. He will be moving into their independent living community in a couple of weeks. We had a wonderful tour experience. The sales coordinator in the complex was very easy to talk to. She provided us with information and kept us updated because my dad was on a waitlist. There were no apartments available during the tour, but she did check with three residents, so we were able to tour three different layouts of apartments. The people there were as kind as they could be, and that's what really won my father. The fact that everybody was so friendly and so outgoing. It's a beautiful building, and the upkeep was very well done. It's a beautiful property with a lake that surrounds it. He can fish from the dock, which he was excited about. There are different layouts. There are studios, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom apartments available there. It's a very active community. They have lots of things to offer to the people that live there, and it's what I also liked about it. What's very unusual from everywhere else that we checked was that it's more à la carte, which means that he pays his rent and then everything else is paid separately. For instance, if he wants housekeeping or meals, or if he wants washer and dryer hookups in the apartment, which was another selling point to us, because my dad likes to do his own laundry. All of the things that are offered in most of the communities, you have to pay for all of those, whether you use them or not. It's just one certain price. Here, you only pay for what you use. For example, he probably will not take advantage of the housekeeping right now, but even if he did, he can schedule them for 30 minutes or for an hour, whatever his needs are. He can eat as many meals as he wants there, or if he wants, he can make his own meals. The apartments also have a full kitchen in them and not a kitchenette, which a lot of the other communities have, so he can cook in there. He's not paying for a lot of things that he wouldn't necessarily take advantage of.

Oxford Villa was great. We wished that we could have stayed there. It was very clean, and neat, and looked well organized. It was just very nice and looked very new. The staff was very professional and very helpful. We ate lunch there, and it was very good. We were served. We sat at a table and they asked us what we wanted, and they brought it to us. It was very hot, and it was excellent. They had an exercise room, a hair salon, a storage facility, and outside walking paths.

Oxford Villa Active Senior Apartments is the one that we put a deposit on. We're on a waiting list. It's an apartment. It's not a house or a cabin or anything like that, but we like it. They have nine different floor plans there, and they furnish a washer and dryer. I like the services. They give breakfast every day. They make it available like if you want to have lunch or dinner, you just pay, and the prices are within my range. I didn't have just two or three to pick from; I had several to pick from, so it got in my price range. The person who showed us around was very informative and didn't leave any hidden things out like cost. She was awesome. She told us everything we needed to know. She invited us up for activities until we got our place. They were serving lunch one day when we were there, and the food looked very good. They'll take you out to eat and they'll take you shopping. They have their own little transit thing, and they go places. It was something that we would enjoy, I'm sure. The place was very clean. They have the Y that comes out once a week and does a workout session with them. Then they have the WSU therapy department that comes out and does a program with the exercises. They have a really nice exercise room. They have games on Friday night, and they have games on other nights. They have trivia and activities. I like the activities department; it was big. They have a place called the Blue Lounge, and that's where you get your meals. On Thursday night, they have a cocktail hour and hors d'oeuvres, and if you don't drink, they have stuff for that too. They have dominoes and they have programs in the evening also if you want to join. You can join them all or you can join something. You can eat three meals a day if you want to pay for lunch and dinner, or you can eat in your room because you have a full kitchen. Each one has a balcony or patio, which is nice. They have a cookout session in their gathering space downstairs. They do things like fashion shows and stuff. They have a tornado shelter. It's in that Blue Lounge. They have metal doors that close all around.
