There are only a small number of people living in the house that my mom lives in, so she gets a lot of 1 on 1 attention. It's like living a house instead of living in a facility. The daily activities engage all of the residents and help keep them engaged versus just sitting them in front of a TV. They have good staff that are compassionate and very caring with the residents. My father is in ComfortCare Homes - WEST. I like it when I walk in there. It is more of a home environment and has only 12 residents under one roof. That allows my father to feel more comfortable, not being surrounded by dozens of residents, like a bigger place might be. They get more undivided attention that way. There were a few concerns that I had that they have since corrected. They listened to my concerns and acted immediately upon them. The staff, they're great, they visit with me while I'm there. They are interested in any special needs for my father so that they could address them and work with him. I just feel very comfortable when I'm around them. I've been there for many of their activities and I think it's wonderful the way that they get the residents to participate. My father is a pretty quiet man, probably never played a game of bingo in his life and he plays it now all the time. He gets out of his room. They have a way of getting him up off of his derriere and getting him to join in the activities, he seems to enjoy it, and that's very unusual for my father. It's clean and odor-free. A lot of times you'll go into a facility like this and many times it'll smell of urine. In this place, you don't detect anything like that at all. It's a very clean atmosphere. I think the way that I see staff work with the residents is very impressive. You might have a resident that is distressed for some odd reason and staff has a way of getting to their level somehow and getting them to pay attention and listen to the staff member, what they're trying to explain to them so that hopefully the residents will calm down.

The tour I had at ComfortCare Homes - West was good and very thorough. We were able to walk pretty much everywhere. We saw an occupied room, but there was no one there and it was perfectly OK to go in and just get a feel for what the facility looked like. Certainly, it was a leisurely tour. We didn't feel like we were rushed. We could ask questions as we went along. I thought it was a very thorough look at what life might be like in that facility. The facility itself was great and very new. As the presenter described, it's built from the ground up, as opposed to most places which they purchase and renovate. It was built to their specifications. It was a nice facility to kind of fit their style of service and care to the elderly population. It was very eye opening and revealing to us as far as what's available. I saw more like studios, and there's basically a room for a bed, a dresser, and a chair. It's not large certainly. I think they encourage the people there to be out in the living areas and not necessarily in their rooms. There's a half bath that's attached to each room, no shower or anything, just basic stuff. I think safety is paramount for the folks there. That's the idea of the design. They described several things every day that they do, and it's not like on a set schedule. They described it as kind of a free flowing sort of a deal. They would encourage activity, and then if people are interested, they do it. If not, they postpone it. It's very engaging, but not necessarily a structure per se that the people perhaps wouldn't appreciate. It was a nice feature. It's kind of a group get together, "Hey, let's play a game" or "Hey, let's do this." It's not, "Come at 2:00 because we're gonna do this right now." It wasn't like that at all. That's kind of how they sold it.

My parents moved into ComfortCare Homes - WEST yesterday. They only have 12 people and it's set up like a home with a living area. The kitchen's in the middle, and they're both in single rooms right across from each other. It is just really well run and it's three minutes from my house, so that makes a difference too. The staff has been wonderful, kind, and good. Everything went great yesterday. I couldn't say enough about them. They're very good. They have a beautiful courtyard walking path. I know they do activities, and they take them out occasionally. They have a library, a game room, and a beauty salon. They have a good variety of menus.
