The man running this place was helpful with advice about expences . He was knowledgeable about seniors and seemed protective and caring of seniors. I would haved picked this place if my moms's health didn't decline so quickly before she passed, I know she would have enjoyed this place, it's beautiful and affordable.

Provider Response

Dear dc, Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review of our community. You are absolutely correct: Jim Lara not only knows seniors, he understands their needs, their concerns, and those of their families - and meets them head on. He's extraordinary! know Jim joins me, and our remarkable staff, in offering our condolences to you and your family for the loss of your mother. Like you, we are certain she would have thoroughly enjoyed living with us and we are sorry all of us missed the opportunity. Sincerely, thank you for thinking of us even in your time of loss and mourning.

At Independence Village of Naperville, their prices and their lifetime rate guarantee were phenomenal. It was family-owned, it was very clean, and the residents looked happy. I took a tour through the whole building, so I saw some apartments, the dining room, the activity room, and the courtyard. I saw everything. I also saw a beauty shop. I have tried their food, and it was good. I talked to the residents and they enjoyed living there. They liked the food and the activities. The staff was very knowledgeable and very interactive with my dad. The place was very clean. It didn't smell like a nursing home or anything.

Provider Response

Jill! Thank you for your glowing review of our community. We LOVE that you found so much to compliment us on but our favorite part of your review is the part that relates to our happy, well fed, and satisfied residents....THAT's all we really needed to hear because it is the greatest compliment! Hands clapping for our remarkable team...they are the difference family makes.

Independence Village of Naperville had the best rooms that we have seen, in the way they were laid out and their cabinet space. It was a one bedroom and one bath that we looked at. They also have a one bedroom with two baths but that was more money. The owner's son gave us the tour. They have about three places and so it is owned by a family. They make sure they have activities on Sunday. He gave me a paper where they had all their activities on it. Their library was kind of just bookshelves, but they had a beauty salon. Location-wise I loved it. Their meal choices were simpler than other places, and I liked that. At our age, we don't need big meals.

Provider Response

Dear Elaine, Thank you for your lovely review of our community and your thoughts about what you encountered during your tour. We agree with you - our apartments are the BEST in the business! Everything you need to make you feel immediately at home - bright light, walk-in closets, and wonderfully useable space throughout. As we continue into our next phase of updates, we think you'll like the new library we have planned and the view it is going to enjoy!! Come join us ~ we would love to show you more about the difference family makes!!

Really nice place with very friendly staff and residents. Lots of fun activities for my dad to do. He is very happy here.

My mother could no longer care for herself or live on her own after falling. Her hospital social worker recommended we check out Independence Village. This was the perfect place for her. It is NOT a nursing home. There residents interact with each other, eat together but they have their own apartments. My mom is only 78 and since they have lifetime rates, she will not have to worry about rent increases ever. We worked with Barbara and she was very helpful. My mom was worried we were sending her to a nursing home but once we got there she was so surprised to see so many happy residents doing activities. They welcomed her right away.

Provider Response

Dear P Lager, Thank you, thank you, thank YOU ~ So many family members, when realizing mom may not be thriving in her current home, put off the search for her new "home" thinking they are putting her in a "HOME." A nursing home. No wonder the search stalls out - none of us wants that for someone we love. Welcome to senior living...emphasis on LIVING! At Independence Village we provide essentially the same services available at most senior communities - we just do it like FAMILY because we are family owned and operated! It makes a difference because we add heart. Your mother, as you've already seen, will be welcomed with open arms by our wonderful resident family and we can promise you she will not miss a beat from this day forward. New friends will be made, engaging conversations will be had, and interesting days will be enjoyed. This is life and we are the difference family makes. Thank you for sharing yours with ours!

My mom, 77, has lived in 2 other supportive living communities in the western suburbs, and by far, Independence Village is the cleanest, well-maintained and staffed of them all. Residents are happy, and have numerous activity options available to them. Meals are excellent and when extra assistance services are needed, they can be added on easily.

Provider Response

Jim60540, Thank you for taking the time to review our community and share so many nice things about us. You make us blush! Our remarkable staff are just that, remarkable! As you already know, each of them is all in, all the time. They know our residents, call them by name, serve them with joy, and care about them just like family ~ because they ARE! Thank you for sharing your family with ours we are honored.

My grandmother loves living at Independence Village. She was living alone, not eating well and not getting out. It took her awhile to get used to her new home, but now she goes on the shuttle to go to the fun places like the casino or restaurants as well as shopping. She seemed to go into a depression after my grandfather died but after being in a senior community, she is getting back to her old self. She has learned some new card games and loves getting her hair done at the salon.

Provider Response

Dear Avesgma, We love that your grandmother has a new lease on life! Isn't it wonderful know your grandmother's day is now filled with things to do, people to meet, and places to go ~ she's living again! We are so happy she's happy...and it's music to our ears! Thank you for sharing your story with us and taking the time to let other people know show senior living has changed your world. We love it as well.

I am very impressed with the caring staff offIndependence Village. My mom is so much more comfortable here than she was at her previous residence, which was large and expensive. Mom said she just felt like a number there, and at Independence everyone knows her name and cares about her well-being.

Provider Response

Dear Annwithane, Thank you for taking the time to review our community and share your mom's happiness with her new home. We pride ourselves on not being a country club and not having the chandelier. We think seniors want to feel at home in their retirement and want to enjoy the sense of family they spent a lifetime creating for their own. We are so happy we got it exactly right for your mom...let us know what we can do to earn that last star!!

My friend moved in this past Spring. I looked at numerous other assisted living communities for him in Naperville and found Independence Village to be warm and friendly. When I walked in it felt like home. The staff is outstanding. They know all the residents names and are treated like family. They truly care about their residents and it shows. From the way they interact with their residents to the activities and parties they offer, to the trips they take. You can't put a price tag on that. My friend is very happy living there.

Provider Response

Dianne, How wonderful are you to help your friend navigate the process of finding a new home?! Thank you for noticing the difference family makes...we want everyone who walks through our doors to feel welcome and we want our residents to feel at home. And we want them to hear their names often and amidst laughter. Glad you mentioned parties - they are something we are rather enthusiastic about and our team does them especially well...just like everything they do. Thank you for this wonderful review and for sharing your friend with us ~ we think it's a perfect match!

While looking for my mother in law, I probably visited 3 or 4 communities. When I got to Independence Village, the feeling and energy was awesome! People were out in the common areas talking, staff was interacting, it was great. The guy, Nathan, who gave us the tour and did paperwork was outstanding, he made sure the right needs were met for my mother in law, and that this was the right move for her. He was patient with all of our questions and really cared about this being a success. We were impressed with how clean the community is, how happy the residents are, the top notch staff, and on top of all that they have lifetime rates. My wife and I are really happy, and so is my mother in law, she's already made a few friends.

Provider Response

Thank you Jomeara! We know your mother in law will continue to settle in nicely ~ everyone is excited to meet and get to know her - that smile of hers is contagious and a magnet to anyone she shares it with. We also want to take a moment to appreciate your detailed review, your kind words about our staff, and for shining a light on the wonderful way our residents enjoy the community and one another. In our unique family of residents, they are eager to be engaged, interactive, and we have a great fun with them on a daily basis. Well, honestly, its hourly!! Even minute by minute! We are honored, truly, to care for your family...thank you for trusting us. We will continue to over deliver - promise!

Independence Village is a wonderful community for seniors who are looking for a warm and welcoming place to call home. The staff takes pride in caring for each resident like family. As my mother began to need more assistance with daily activities, I was able to add care as she needed it with their home care partner that is in house 24 hours a day. My mom enjoyed playing cards and games with her friends, outings and shopping trips. She also loved the garden courtyard designed for residents who love to garden. The location is perfect, nestled in a neighborhood of downtown Naperville. She loved to go walking around the riverwalk which is right across the street and an amazing resale shop is just steps away! Their rates are set for life. My mom's rent never increased while she was a resident. Friends had warned us about other senior communities raising rent rates as high as 15% every year--that was not something we had to worry about. My family had lunch a couple of times with my mom and it was quite good. She put on some much needed weight. I highly recommend Independence Village for your loved ones.

Provider Response

Elaine, Thank you for your kind review. You can imagine our pleasure in knowing your mother enjoyed her time with us and found life in our community to be the perfect lifestyle choice for her retirement years! We appreciate you taking the time to offer your thoughts to others considering senior living ~ more importantly, thank you for sharing your mother with us..she is greatly missed by many here. Wishing you the best,

My mother-in-law is at Independence Village of Naperville for a temporary stay. She liked it the best. We're trying that right now. If everything goes well, that's where she will be going. We chose it only because of financial reasons. Once you go in, the monthly rate will never increase as long as that person lives there. That's the biggest reason we have picked the Independence Village. It's excellent for older people with a fixed income. The sales director was very helpful, very sincere, caring, and honest. Three meals are included. My mother-in-law has sampled the lunch the first time, and now she's there. She's eating and she likes the food. I've seen ladies working on puzzles. The first time I visited they had a Mexican fiesta. It was Cinco de Mayo. However, the buildings are not new, and the remodeling is very, very slow.

My parents moved in a year ago after a series of health crisis made it unwise to continue living on their own. I appreciate the way they can still maintain their independence by having their own apartment but have the safety aspect of nurses checking in on them and monitoring their meds and wellbeing. All the staff is friendly and respectful and know their names and talk to them in the halls and great rooms. They are not activity-people but did take a trip to a play recently and loved it. They have a 2 bedroom apartment which is a one bedroom connected to a studio. The kitchenette with its mini fridge and microwave is perfect for storing snacks and drinks and they take their meals in the dining hall. The closets are huge! Mom’s bathroom had a ADA shower area and dads has a regular tub. Both are equipped with grab bars and the pull chain to call for help if needed.

I liked Independence Village of Naperville. Nathan was wonderful. He gave us all the information that we needed. He even gave us options for things. They worked with us on the finances, and they were really great. They were redoing a lot of stuff in some parts of the building, so they're making it nicer. Even though they were under construction, the place still looked clean and neat. It felt cozy and homey. The residents were well cared for. The rooms were nice and big. We saw a studio apartment and it still looked roomy. The residents were doing puzzles when we were there. They had a crafts room and a church on campus. They have plenty of activities on the activity board like bus trips and card games. They also had exercise classes and a bowling team.

Independence Village of Naperville seemed very cozy and the rooms and the apartments were spacious. I toured independent living and I liked the person who took me around. I still remember that her name is Denise. The only thing is it just seemed kind of worn out but that would be my second choice if I didn't go with my first one. I'm sure they had an exercise room and a library, but I don't remember what else they had. The facility was very clean and it is centrally located. It's in Naperville and right now, I live in the suburb right next to Naperville, so I could still be closer to my friends here if I move there.

Independence Village of Naperville was a nice place. They were very friendly and they provide three meals a day. It's the one-bedroom that I looked at, and it was very nice and a pretty good size. It had an individual bedroom and a kitchen, and a nice closet space. They had a beautiful dining room, they they have what they call "the great room," a library, and a laundry room. I think it was a wonderful and a pretty nice place, but I think it was more comparable to an upgraded nursing home. There were people playing bingo while I was there in the activity room. They have a little refrigerator, and a tiny sink, but there was really no need to have anything more because they already serve meals. They just had space for if you wanted special cooking. It also had a microwave. Their staff was wonderful. If I have to live there, I can drive my car if I want to, but I would actually have access to a ride to grocery shopping or anything like that.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your wonderful review of our senior community! Like you, everyone loves our apartments (and our walk-in closets!), and our 'beautiful' community rooms are always busy. Residents move around to participate in various activities, classes, events, and stay engaged with friends and conversations just relaxing in the comfort of their home. Please allow us to clarify that our independent living community, where residents spend their days exactly as they wish, is nothing like a licensed nursing facility where licensed nurses and staff provided focused medical services to patients under a physician's direct care and oversight.

Independence Village of Naperville was nice. My mother likes to work outside, and she likes to walk in parks, but this facility is a little too urban. We were looking for something a little bit closer to a park and so on. It had all the usual amenities. They had a kitchen to use if they wanted. I think their activities were limited by COVID. I saw examples of their apartments.

Independence Village of Naperville was a very nice place. The downside was the size of the kitchen for my mother. She's still fairly independent, although she needs assistance with medication management. The kitchen was quite small and had a small refrigerator, and for someone who does her own food, particularly breakfast, we didn't feel it was adequate for her needs, although everything else was very nice. The people were very friendly and spent a lot of time with us. We saw several of their floor plans, and we enjoyed their residents and the community itself. They're in the process of renovating their kitchen area, and their dining room was spacious and well appointed. A lot of the residents were involved downstairs in the communal areas. There were puzzles, card games, and outdoor sitting areas. The activities in the calendar all looked nice.

Provider Response

Thank you very much for your review! We're happy to hear that you had a great tour and we very much appreciate your kind words about our wonderful and spacious apartments, dining options and wealth of activities available daily for residents. We also thank you for the kind words about our friendly and helpful associates. They do their best to make sure that you have all the information you need before making any decisions. We're sorry to hear, that your mom felt she needed a kitchen. Many of our residents think about cooking, and with the convenience of the Activity Room with its nicely appointed kitchen, reserve it for family meals, but we have found that residents prefer the camaraderie of sharing meals with their tables mates and developing lasting friendships. If circumstances happen to change, please let us know if we may be of service to you in the future. We'd be happy to welcome your family to Independence Village. Again, we thank you for taking the time to rate us. We wish you and your family the best of luck!

I enjoyed Independence Village of Naperville, but it's not a place that Mom would be comfortable. I like the people there, and I like the setup and everything, but they didn't have a lot of activities for the residents. They had great menus and a dining room. The place looked clean, but there were things that needed to be fixed, like making their gardens handicap accessible.

Provider Response

Nadine, Thank you for visiting Independence Village and for sharing your kind words about our staff as well as your opinions and ideas about our community. As a family-owned business, we appreciate the time and commitment reviews take to submit, and receiving feedback allows us to consistently deliver and constantly improve. Our community provides a vibrant lifestyle for seniors who are active and independent. Residents enjoy a robust calendar of events, activities, and outings which allow them to remain connected and engaged on a daily basis. Our beautiful outdoor spaces are well enjoyed by all who love taking in the sunshine and fresh air, and our Garden Club members share the wealth of their green thumbs with the entire community! The interior courtyards are easily accessed by residents, even those using walkers, and less mobile residents are cheerfully provided all necessary assistance. We are terribly sorry you did not feel your mother would be comfortable with us as our lovely community is renowned for its friendliness, its relaxed comfort, and our strong sense of family. We wish you the best on your journey to find the correct home for your mom and hope she is recovering well.

We are now residents of Independence Village. I love everything. One of the things I appreciate the most is the healthcare. They take my husband's blood pressure and they come right in on their own. I love that. I like everything about it. The food is fabulous. The people are wonderful. The nurses are amazing. The staff can't help you enough; they're just fabulous. It is the best place I have ever lived. I'm happy to be here and so is my husband. It is just so amazing. They're just the best. The whole place is wonderful; the people are wonderful. You feel like you're at home.

I liked Independence Village of Naperville. The staff, Heidi, and the residents were wonderful. We ate there, and it was great. We're considering it because of the amenities with the transportation, the three meals a day, and the housekeeping. I really enjoyed meeting the residents there. I was impressed with their grounds and their inside. I've gone over certain concerns that my children have with Heidi and her answers were fine; she explained the emergency button and everything.

We were warmly welcomed when we toured Independence Village in Naperville. There was a wonderful pianist playing and singing some classics. The residents and staff seemed to all be having a great time singing along. Everything is convenient and the building is a nice size, nothing is too far away. We also really liked that is so close to the Riverwalk, downtown and mom's doctors too.

My mother is in Independence Village. It is a very clean and well-run facility. Things are going very well with my mother there. They serve three meals a day and have many activities in an activity room where they can do painting and a number of other things. They have a number of other activities ranging from bingo to concerts and provide transportations to a number of activities outside of the center. They post what they are going to do a month at a time so that people can plan their activities. They will arrange to take people to and from their doctors' visits. Also, there are some doctors that come there. The staff is extremely helpful. I will certainly recommend the place to anybody.

We should have taken the time to write this review when Dad was still alive and enjoying a long and wonderful life at Independence Village, but our most recent experience demanded we take to the key board and let others know about this remarkable community. Every day Dad was treated like the most important person there - but I know every resident shared this same experience! Unlike any other place we visited before chosing this as home, this staff is kind, genuine, and respectful, treating the seniors like family. And Dad came to consider them like an extension of his own - a comfort we all enjoyed. When we stopped to visit, we were called by name. When we asked for help as Dad aged, they helped us find it. And when Dad was hospitalized, the staff called him and brought other residents over for visits. It never ended, even after Dad passed. They came to the service, wept like we did, and offered us the condolences only family does. This is not your ordinary "old folks home" - this is an extraordinary place filled with ordinary people who are treated like they are the most exceptional people who have ever lived. Thank you for the wonderful final chapters in Dad's story.
