We have been here in Holiday Washington Commons for about a month and a half now and we're doing just fine. We were able to get what we wanted, which was two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's roomy, bright, and clean. The other residents are delightful people. The staff here are phenomenal. The food is outstanding. I don't have any unkind comments to make at all. I am thrilled as I can to be living here, and I'm comfortable and happy. It's expensive, but it's worth every penny to us because it's just what we want. We've got family nearby, which is wonderful, but we are also able to do whatever we want, whenever we want. The staff is caring and loving. Some of us can be difficult sometimes, and they take it in stride. We get housekeeping here. They come to the apartment once a week and vacuum and clean the bathrooms. They offer sheets, towels and wash clothes if we want them. They'll change your bed if you want them, too. The mealtimes start at 8, 12, and 5, and if you're not down there, it makes it difficult for the staff because they come around and give you everything in order. You start with coffee, then juice, and cereal. With lunches, it's salads and drinks. They have four different menu items for every single meal. They take your order, take it back to the kitchen, and bring it to your table. So it's a full-hour experience of eating. The quality of the food is outstanding as far as I'm concerned. They are very diversified and different. There's never anything on the menu that I wouldn't choose. I've enjoyed every meal I've had. They have activities for folks if they want to do it. They have a movie afternoon, card games, bingo, and exercise activities. There's a physical therapist here who will work with you once you get signed up if you need it. That's also charged to the insurance. If you need something in your apartment, they will come and help you. For instance, when we first moved in, we had trouble with our hot water, and they fixed it in a day without any problems. They came and did what needed to be done and took care of it. My husband and I are delighted to be here. There was one thing that disappointed a lot of us. They had some beautiful pictures hanging on the hallways. They're beautiful frames, and they're like pictures from yesteryear. It's really old. Well, they were painting the walls and they took all the pictures down and took them away, and that was very disappointing. For the most part, it is clean. They feed us on dishes, chinaware, glassware, and silver, and it's always spotless clean. The tables are set for us when we go down to eat and they clean off the tables. They wash the floor in the dining room every day. I think it's very nice. With activities, there might be more things, but they work hard at keeping people occupied if they want to be. They have different activities, and you can go or not. I would equate my whole experience here is being on a cruise ship on land. If I want to go somewhere, I can. If I don't, I don't have to, and I can stay in my room. They have a pool table, chess games, and puzzles.

My dad is staying at Holiday Washington Commons. Everything is good, but they just have terrible maintenance and there's no follow-through on maintenance requests. The place is older, but they are in the process of remodeling all open areas and then eventually the apartments. The thing I like about this experience is the friendships that my dad has made, being able to sit around tables and talk with other people. The dining area is awesome. They do get 3 cooked meals a day, but it's about 50:50. Some of the residents like it, some don't. But they offer enough options that if you don't like what's being served, you have another choice. They have a walking path, a cafeteria, an activities room, a little theater room, a library, a barbershop/beauty shop, and a chapel. They do have a van that does transportation to and from doctor's appointments as well as grocery stores. They allow pets, too.

My sister is in Holiday Washington Commons. It's fine. I think their food could be a little more conducive to elderly residents. They serve food that most of them don't even know what it is. I just think they should do it with more vegetables. Some of them may be fine with eating that, but when they get to that age, they don't like a lot of that spicy food. That's the only complaint I have there. I have a sitter with her. She's not able to live by herself, but with a sitter, she can stay there. They provide nurse care, but it's a service that is affiliated with them. They don't provide anything except a place to live and three meals a day. That's all that you're paying for and a lot of the residents don't even eat in the dining room because they don't like the food. They just recently changed the menu, but my sister just does not like the food. She's pretty picky anyway, but they need to serve more and she doesn't like all the spicy food that they have and they serve a lot of sandwiches. My sister doesn't care for sandwiches all the time. The staff is fine. When I moved my sister, they told me that they check on them every day, but they don't. It is strictly independent living, so it's like an apartment. She has somebody with her all the time and that woman cooks for her. Some days, my sister eats there, but most days not. She's never participated in any of the activities, but they do provide activities. They have a hair salon there. The price is very high for what you get.

Holiday Washington Commons has been great. The staff is kind and attentive to their residents. They're willing to sit down and talk to them. I've gone over to see my mom a few different times and if she happens to be in the atrium or in a place like that, they're just friendly and outgoing to her. So, it's nice that they have that communication with the residents. The rooms are like in a cruise ship. They have a one-bedroom, a two-bedroom, and a studio. Mom's got a studio and it's nice. They serve three meals a day, so you don't need a whole lot. The food was really good when I tried it. Of course, there's a dietician that takes care of their meals and so they have to be careful about what they eat and what stuff goes into it. It's all fresh and it's all prepared there. If you ask for a salad dressing, they're going to make the dressing in the back. It's not store-bought. The facility has a nice quality. It's a little charming place for my mom to be. It's not rundown. The residents are happy and they have like four activities every day. They have sing-alongs and music activities. They had a wine and cheese tasting one time when I was moving my mom in there. They take them shopping, to the grocery store once a week, and on outings. She's enjoying where she's at so far.

Holiday Washington Commons was nice. The rooms were nice. The one-bedroom was appropriate for one person. I was there at lunch, but I didn't eat. The common areas were very interesting, very appropriate, and timely. I found some worn rugs in the hall, but other than that, it was OK. The activities set up for the residents were appropriate. They had a game room and a beauty consultant come in and do their hair and stuff like that on certain days. I liked the grounds. The setting was close to a shopping area and the thoroughfare to the expressways. It seemed to be expensive for seniors, but I guess it's to be expected.

I toured Holiday Washington Commons. It was very nice. The rooms weren't as nice as the other place I went to, but I thought they were nice. I think because it's multi-storied, it's not all on one flat level, which for older people can be difficult. I wasn't as impressed with that idea. In terms of evacuation, I can see how that would be a problem. The facilities were clean, nice, and neat.
