"We toured Discovery Village At Sandhill. It's interesting, it is self sufficient living only, so there's no place to move up if you have to have more care than that. It's very nice and very expensive. They have a nurse practitioner, I don't know if she's there all the time, but she's there fairly often, so they have that level of reference at least. We spent our time with the sales guy, he's of course quite nice, we had to speak to one or two residents, and one or two staff members, and they're all quite nice. We looked at at least 2 different rooms, they're again quite nice, but quite expensive. It's reasonably isolated so there's not a lot of traffic noise, very close to Sandhill which is of course a major shopping area, the layout I think they're all about the same, big wide places with elevators, so how convenient it is depends on how close you are to an elevator. And we're finding the higher the floor, the lower the price, and the closer to the elevator, the higher the price."

"I went to tour Wellmore of Lexington and I loved the place. I loved that it was a gated community and everything was beautiful. The staff was friendly, but the price was way too high for my sister. The staff was very friendly and very helpful when I came in. We were offered to come in and eat, but we didn't do that. They had a lot of activities for the patients, they had a lot of activities to keep them busy, so it was nice. They had a gym and salon, they have their eating facility, which was actually a restaurant. The place was beautiful and excellent."

"My father moved to the Presbyterian Community following a fall. He was in skilled nursing (SN) for approx 2 months before moving to memory care. His time in SN was great. We were pleased with his level of care & the attentiveness of the care staff. I was pleased with their level of communication - they ensured I was in the loop regarding what was going on with my father. He adjusted well and we felt confident his needs were being met. He moved to the Memory Care unit (MC) a few weeks ago and seems to be thriving in this new area. The level of care is different, but still great! I have no doubt my dad is in the best place for his needs. I would definitely recommend the Presbyterian Community. The only less than positive thing I can say is the facility is quite dated and is in need of being updated. But, the facility is safe, clean and appropriate. "

"I have a family member staying there. The facility staff are always asking me what they can do for me or my family member. I am able to visit any day at anytime I want without having to call ahead. The facility has always been clean when I visit. The food is always prepared on time and hot. They provide a variety of meals for the residents. I am able to call anytime I want and a staff member will let me talk to my family member. The staff will also answer any questions I have. I like this facility more compared to the others that I have seen. One thing I like about this one is that there are at least 2 staff members that live on site at various times. I think this helps with the condition of the facility since some of the staff is actually living there also. They seem to really care about the residents. I would like it if the facility made some repairs to the outside concrete "walks". Some of the concrete slabs have sunken in the ground due to age and weather. The walkway is connected with several different concrete slabs. Due to the fact that some of the slabs have sunk in the ground. It has a caused the adjoining concrete slab to stick up at least an inch out of ground. This can cause a resident to slip and fall on the concrete walkway. "

"Hulon Greene is attractive; the grounds are well kept. They have 3 condo buildings where they have 36 units, then they have 114 patio homes. It’s nice. We have plenty of room. Everything is on one level. It does not have a meal plan. There are a lot of social activities. Whatever you want to be involved with, you can. We have a clubhouse center and a pool. We have an activities committee that plans a lot of events almost monthly. We have bridge or the card games going on. We have morning coffee for men or morning coffee for women. We have poker. It’s a very pleasant place to live. Neighbors look out for each other. "

"I went to Jenni-Lynn Senior Living. It was excellent for all. I think it's in a good location. The staff was awesome. And I saw somebody I hadn't seen in 30 years. I asked if I could visit with them, and they said, yeah. And he told me, he loves the place. He's been there for a year."

"Still Hopes is a wonderful place to live for certain residents but certainly not for all. I staff here is absolutely amazing. They are caring and well trained, and it is obvious that they are required to hold a very high level professionalism. There are numerous activities planned for residents throughout the year and special events and side trips are always being offered. The facility itself is state of the art and beautiful. One would think that this would be a place that any elderly person could benefit from but for my parents it has been less than ideal. Despite having many activities available, the overall feel of the place is very isolating. For instance, my parents had the idea that since the seniors living here were required to be in good health, that there would be a much more social atmosphere. In the 10 months they have been here, they have only seen the inside of one other residents home. The residents tend to remain in their personal apartments and not interact socially. At meals there are often groups sitting together but at the end of the meal they return to their own space not to emerge again until the next meal. The set up of the apartments is one of long hallways with apartment doors opening onto the hallway. It has the distinct feel of a hotel which scarcely mimics a home atmosphere. The cost of staying here is very high but the services they provide are excellent. If only the residential units could be on a more open plan which would foster more social interaction, the the place would certainly be my first choice to stay in my later years. As it is now, I find the hallways dismal and the seclusion disheartening, and I know that my parents have the same feeling. "

"We liked the Heritage at Lowman very much. They were having a new building that should be available in January, and we are mulling that one over. They had a pool, and they showed a schedule of events that my mother-in-law was happy with. She's interested in the apartment that was going to be available in January."

"Merrill Gardens at Columbia is a nice facility. I signed up for independent living there. If my condition deteriorates, then I'll let them know that I'm interested in probably assisted living. That's the only two that they offer at that place because I talked to them, and I said, 'What happens if I run out of money?' They said, 'We will help you get placed into a nursing home.' They have a great facility. They show movies. The people I talked to seemed to like it. They serve you three meals a day, which would be the main thing. I've visited there twice. The manager is pleasant and very helpful as far as showing me the rooms and things like that. The facility looked very nice. I tried their food; I could live with it. They have a chef who worked for a restaurant. However, the food at Merrill Gardens at Columbia wasn't as good as the restaurant where he was the chef. The common areas were great. They had places where you could play games. They had another place where they showed movies. I saw people in each one of those areas, and they seemed like they were having a good time. The room was about as good as you can get for a dormitory-like situation."

"Please dont take this post wrong, Its not a bad place at all, its actually quite pleasant with a great team of staff and they offer assisted living, nursing home, alzheimers care, short term care and more .However, the pricing for this facility is reasonable if you have medicare BUT they do not take medicaid or have veterans benefits. For private nursing care, your looking at around $6000, For semi-private nursing care $5490, assisted care $5490. They have a state average of 7 issues. "

"We chose Wildewood Downs for my husband, and we have to move in in 90 days. We were very impressed. We liked the whole place. It had gorgeous landscaping outside, and everything that we would be interested in on the first floor where our apartment is. We don't have to go anywhere, except the first floor. Everyone was extremely friendly. The menu looks like a very expensive restaurant. They have an art room and a card room. They have things that they put on or all week or month long that you can take part of. Really, you could do anything you want there. We saw people playing cards, and we saw them working in the art room."
