"TerraBella Windsor Lake was very nice. It was not in a high-traffic area, so it's away from that. They had a lot of facilities and a lot of different functions that the seniors could attend. They also provided main meals and a separate menu if they didn't like the main meals. We saw a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment and it was nice. It had a kitchen area and a little small living area. Everything looked clean and up to date. Their laundry room was on the first floor. The staff was gracious, very informative, very professional, and very friendly."

"I like the way that Mill Creek Manor was laid out. The apartments are all on the first floor, so no matter which you take, you have a first-floor entrance. Everybody was very nice, the manager was extremely nice and I even met a couple of the people that are going to be living there already. It seemed to be a very pleasant place. It's a nice facility, you can have a washer and dryer in your apartment, they take care of all the utilities and they offer food. So if you want to have your food made for you, you can, and if you don't want to, you don't have to choose that part of it. It.s nice because they have independent dining, they have assisted living dining and they have memory care dining."

"The Crossings at Columbia is a new facility. It doesn't have a lot of grounds, although there was a nice, little walking space in the back. They had an excellent chef. The place was immaculately clean, and the people seemed friendly. The price was reasonable as far as everything else we've looked at. If we were to move somewhere, that would be our top choice right now. They had a $1,000 upfront fee, but that was waved for veterans. The room had a small washer and dryer and a small refrigerator. At the time we visited, they were only doing breakfast, but they were planning on adding lunch and dinner as well. We had lunch there, which was very good. It's a smaller place where one side was independent and the other side was assisted. They're not really big, but they were immaculately maintained and the layout was good."

"Discovery Village at Sandhill in Columbia is a beautiful place. When I went for a tour, it was newly built. It happened years ago, but they still call me and keep in touch with me. They send me invitations to come and participate in activities, even though I'm not a resident there. I chose not to live there because it's a little pricey. It's nice that they still invite me to different barbecues and different events that they have. The place is luxurious. They allow my church to use their media room. They have a theater set up, and we were able to watch a movie there. They had popcorn, candy, and drinks. All of that was available to us while we watched the movie for free, so that was really nice. Another time that I was there, we were invited to have lunch there. The food was not hot. I guess it had sat there for a while, and so it was pretty much room temperature. Not everybody likes that. Everything was brand-new like the stainless-steel appliances, ice makers, and microwave. There's a walk-in shower and a place with a washer and dryer hookups. Even though they had a laundry facility on-site, you still had the option of bringing in your own appliances. They offered the same things as the other places, like housekeeping and a salon for hair washing. It was really nice. You definitely get what you're paying for. The staff that was there during my visits were all very friendly and willing to offer us drinks. Even though we had already toured the place the first time, each time I go back they offer to give me another tour just hoping that I would change my mind. It's definitely a place that people should visit. "

"Lakeview Retirement Community was a great place. It had everything you would need. The staff was very helpful and very pleasant. I liked the way they made their food. They have a chef in there. They have a 150-seat movie theater, a gym, nice rooms, and outside trips. You can eat 24 hours a day if you want to. They have room service or you can go to the cafeteria. They have parking garages and regular parking spaces. Overall, we had a good tour."

"We toured The Village at Southlake. The people were very friendly. I liked the apartment. It was very open, and it would be easy for him to move around in a scooter-type thing, a very open floor plan, and very easy accessibility to the main house where dining would be and other things that they've got there. They have a place to get haircuts and a place where you can socialize with folks. It was just very nice and very clean. Orlando was very wonderful, very helpful, very informative, and knowledgeable."

"We have chosen Deepwood Estates. The staff members were very attentive and very welcoming. The facility was very nice. I like the environment. It was very welcoming, and it looked very clean. It had different amenities like a salon, a gym, a movie room, and an activity room. They have quite a few things. I haven't met anybody except the person I spoke with, but everybody has been very helpful. My mom hasn't moved in yet, but based on my visit, it looked fine to me."

"I am moving into Merrill Gardens at Columbia. It was a brand-new facility. It opened 2 years ago. It was very modern, big, bright, with huge double windows. So, there was a lot of light coming in. It was a 4-story building. The first floor was a welcome center. The dining room was on the first floor, then the apartments were on the 3 top floors. There were 5 different activity rooms. Just about anything you'd want to do, they've got it there. They had a beautiful rooftop garden where you could go and sit and have hot dogs and hamburgers. It was also right by the ballpark, so you could watch the fireworks from your apartment. They had studio apartments, 2 different sizes for the 1-bedroom apartments, and then they had 2-bedroom apartments. They had a great chef there. The staff was excellent. They were very nice and very helpful."

"My wife is at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement. They’re superb. It’s great. They have a physical rehabilitation unit for exercise. They do all kinds of things, like have people that play piano, clarinet, and saxophone and entertainment come in. This afternoon, they have a violin recital and next week, a piano recital. They seem to be well connected with the musical portion of Columbia, SC. Last week, they had a rummage sale. They have 24/7 nurses and doctors visit. The doctors are scheduled once a week or, if necessary, they come over any day. They have an ambulance service that takes residents to the hospitals if something terrible happens. "

"I had a tour of Jenni-Lynn Senior Living. It was fine. It was a great place. The living conditions were good. The staff was good, but my friend just couldn't afford it. Everything was great with the place, but it started at $2600, and that was without care. She was a type 2 or something and that was going to be another $750, and then there was going to be another fee for this and that, and it was just going to end up being way too much. The staff were good. The rooms were studios. They weren't like a big apartment, it was just like one room. We had to furnish it, too. They had a lot of activities like painting, drawing, and shuffleboard. They had a lot of activities there."

"Hulon Greene is attractive; the grounds are well kept. They have 3 condo buildings where they have 36 units, then they have 114 patio homes. It’s nice. We have plenty of room. Everything is on one level. It does not have a meal plan. There are a lot of social activities. Whatever you want to be involved with, you can. We have a clubhouse center and a pool. We have an activities committee that plans a lot of events almost monthly. We have bridge or the card games going on. We have morning coffee for men or morning coffee for women. We have poker. It’s a very pleasant place to live. Neighbors look out for each other. "

"I was impressed with the two places I visited, but I'm leaning toward Columbia Presbyterian Community. It was a beautiful facility and seemed to offer more amenities. I was really pleased with the grounds and the facility. I ate lunch there, and the food was delicious. I had a very good meeting with their marketing director. That visit was very pleasant. They had progressive care, so if I became more disabled, they could handle that. By being large, it gives them the opportunity to afford more amenities."

"My association with Wildewood Downs began when my mother came in 2004 to live in a spacious two bedroom apartment and later in assisted living. She loved it here for seven years. It could be said that I am a cheerleader for Wildewood Downs. Starting with the wonderful people creating a family-like atmosphere, to the superior leadership and staff that provides an active social and fitness calendar, one can find something of interest to do. Before I moved to Wildewood Downs, I was in rehab here twice and had an excellent experience. Wildewood Downs has been my home since March of 2016. I live in Independent Living and have a duplex with two car garage and screened porch. My husband was with me when we moved here. We had wonderful time until his passing in July, 2017. I only mention this to point out that the community here is so helpful and supportive during a time of loss. I am a strong believer in the benefits to the emotional and mental sharpness of seniors living in a senior community. I have never regretted moving here. I love it."

"I have a family member staying there. The facility staff are always asking me what they can do for me or my family member. I am able to visit any day at anytime I want without having to call ahead. The facility has always been clean when I visit. The food is always prepared on time and hot. They provide a variety of meals for the residents. I am able to call anytime I want and a staff member will let me talk to my family member. The staff will also answer any questions I have. I like this facility more compared to the others that I have seen. One thing I like about this one is that there are at least 2 staff members that live on site at various times. I think this helps with the condition of the facility since some of the staff is actually living there also. They seem to really care about the residents. I would like it if the facility made some repairs to the outside concrete "walks". Some of the concrete slabs have sunken in the ground due to age and weather. The walkway is connected with several different concrete slabs. Due to the fact that some of the slabs have sunk in the ground. It has a caused the adjoining concrete slab to stick up at least an inch out of ground. This can cause a resident to slip and fall on the concrete walkway. "

"I went to tour Wellmore of Lexington and I loved the place. I loved that it was a gated community and everything was beautiful. The staff was friendly, but the price was way too high for my sister. The staff was very friendly and very helpful when I came in. We were offered to come in and eat, but we didn't do that. They had a lot of activities for the patients, they had a lot of activities to keep them busy, so it was nice. They had a gym and salon, they have their eating facility, which was actually a restaurant. The place was beautiful and excellent."

"We liked the Heritage at Lowman very much. They were having a new building that should be available in January, and we are mulling that one over. They had a pool, and they showed a schedule of events that my mother-in-law was happy with. She's interested in the apartment that was going to be available in January."
