"While I was a caregiver for my mother-in-law, her declining heath required a short-term stay at the Lowman Home. As a part of the family, I expected the highest quality treatment of her by the staff. Upon arrival, I was impressed by the landscape, which included walking areas, a pond, and comfortable benches. The interior of the facility was also quite inviting and had a home-style feel. Not only does the facility offer traditional caretaking, but they also offer plenty of recreational activities designed to improve physical and mental well-being. The patient rooms were nice as well, each with a large window for viewing the landscape. In addition, the staff was very attentive and friendly. Upon each visit, there was always a nurse or other staff member within visible distance. In summary, I was impressed with the facility as well as the care received. I would recommend the Lowman Home for both long-term and short-term stays. "

"Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Columbia was great in every aspect. My father was there for rehab. It was good. They were awesome. The only reason that we could not send him there was that they didn't have any openings. They were very nice, very clean, and they knew what they were talking about. They had him up and moving. They were very patient with him and very patient with us. They answered all of our questions. The rooms were very nice and clean. They didn't smell. The staff was very nice. They're really good. The meals were included, and he said that the food was good. They did all kinds of rehab with him. They would take him to the courtyard and let him come out there and visit."

"Unihealth is a beautiful place, but I wasn’t too happy with it. It is very clean. The staff is very nice but with no experience. They are new. They need consistency and a checklist for each resident that is there. I felt like I had to be there all the time or the right things weren’t done for my mother. She has been there for three months and it was exhausting. They have recreation like movies, arts and crafts, and socials. "

"My dad was happy at Heartland. It was neat and clean, and they were so nice and kind. They would call and take phone calls. He was there for physical therapy. I would recommend this place. "

"My mother-in-law is staying in NHC HealthCare Parklane. I have not found one thing to complain about -- all their services are top of the line. The place is very clean, and it is a very safe environment. I have no complaints about the staff; they are very friendly and very efficient. The staff is top of the line, and in just a short while, we have come to know just about every full-time employee there. They have two doctors on staff, and they're there just about every day, I would say. We've seen them on the weekends and at different times. One or the other will be there at least every day, so we think that's a plus."

"My mom stayed at Rice Estate for rehab. When she was there it was clean and everybody was very professional. We were very pleased with her care there. The food was excellent, they have generous portions, and there's a good variety. My mom had physical and occupational therapy there. Her room was spacious."

"I would think anyone being put in the position where they have to put a loved one in a care facility would want a clean, hospitable place to start with. after having my mother here for 9 months i found the conditions unacceptable. The bldg smells of urine from the time you enter, residents are sitting in their own waste too long and infections seem to run higher here then in others I have looked at. I seem to be looking harder at a new place and a healthier environment for my mother to live the remaining of her life. I am saddened to see such poor conditions in a facility that is geared towards quality of life for our elderly when they have supported us for so long. "

"I've visited Life Care Center of Columbia, and I know the administrator there, Tina. The experience was nice. We would go there on Saturdays or Sundays and sing songs or spiritual hymns, and they enjoyed that. The rooms were nice, well kept, and organized, and the staff knows what they're doing. It's always clean. If I ever had to put a family member somewhere, I would be comfortable with them going there. It seemed to be a very nice community."

"We visited my dad when he was in PruittHealth in Blythewood. It was pretty much horrible. They kept him in bed the whole time. He never had any kind of exercise. He had a feeding tube placed in. When he got home, he was severely malnourished. We had to spend the first month that he was out of rehab trying to get home rehab because they didn't do rehab when he was there. They weren't accepting visitors. The only time we got to go in was a couple of days before he got released. We went and see him through the window. The staff was nice enough, but anybody can be nice. They didn't feed him. They gave him pureed food. I don't know if the food just didn't have enough nutrients or if they weren't just feeding him enough because when he got home, he was like 98 pounds. In our opinion, they did not do what they were supposed to do. The only time they got him out of the bed was to pick him up and sit him in the chair. He never tried to walk and now we're having to face that because now his muscles are so weak that he can't walk. The people that we spoke with were good. Our caseworker was good. She pretty much answered all the questions we had. It was just the level of care that we weren't too happy with. The outside of the building was nice, but we had only seen the inside once. It was clean."

"My mom moved into White Oak Of Newberry. We chose it because of the very kind and responsive staff, clean facilities, and good location. They have an excellent staff, are well-staffed, and have good doctors. They're effective and a good follow-up. The facility is spacious and has a good activity plan. The food is average, nothing spectacular."
