Over-all staff attention/professionalism is exemplary, IMO. Full recovery from brain surgery appears doable via this program. Exhilarating."

"My brother was a resident of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg. They were wonderful. He was very, very happy with the place. He stayed there for 25 days. My brother had a swallowing problem after his stroke, he could not swallow. I was very pleased that they were able to keep him that long because he was getting a lot of speech therapy for swallowing. He would have the speech therapist there. It was wonderful. She talked to me, those therapists will pick up the phone and call me. Case managers would call me or let me know how things were going. We'll have a meeting by phone, his children on the phone, and I was on the phone also. They live in Alabama. They kept me abreast of his progress, even though we were in Covid and they would not let you visit. I went there and they introduced me to these people that I had talked to. It was the speech therapist, the PT, the OT, and the case manager. They were all very encouraging and very uplifting. They're very motivating to him. He felt very secure there because he had a hard time coming home. Some of those therapists right now call him at home to check on him. You can't ask for better than that. They've been very good and they still call. If it's anything we need, I think he's going to continue speech therapy. We have to take him down there once a week. But they're the ones that got all of that together, the kind of therapy they thought that he could benefit from. I can't say anything bad about the place, except for the food; it was terrible. I did hear people say the food was bad, but he couldn't swallow, so that was the least of my worries. I could only go down there the one time, and that was because of COVID. They have no visitors, and he was there for 25 days. He said what little bit he did get to eat was not good. He even told one of the administrators. He said, they were working on that, so I think they are making some changes there in the cafeteria line. He was in a fairly large room. It was double occupancy, but no one ever came into the room with him. It had its own bathroom, a closet, and a television. There was a sink in the bathroom, but there was also a sink in his room. It looked very much like a large hospital room. No one ever moved in there with him, he was there by himself. The atmosphere was nice, it was okay. If I had anybody who needed rehab, I would push for them to go there. That was a great experience, which could have been terrible. The night before he came home, he was on the phone with me, I was going to get him the next morning and those therapists were coming in there saying goodbye to him. He's a grown man, he's 70 years old and he was bawling, crying. They were so good to him. He felt secure, I think he was comfortable. He had been through a whole lot, and they had accepted him, that he couldn't swallow, that he does get choked, that his speech is bad. It was nice to be somewhere where they were accepting of all of that."

"Unihealth is a beautiful place, but I wasn’t too happy with it. It is very clean. The staff is very nice but with no experience. They are new. They need consistency and a checklist for each resident that is there. I felt like I had to be there all the time or the right things weren’t done for my mother. She has been there for three months and it was exhausting. They have recreation like movies, arts and crafts, and socials. "

"Both of my parents towards the end of their lives had to go to nursing homes. They went to two different homes in Columbia. I have to say, the nursing home environment itself is not a very uplifting environment and the level of stress on all involved is at a high. I currently have a family member at Heartland on Forest and she has been there for many years now. In my opinion, I feel they do the best job of taking care of the patients. I have read some of the other reviews which is why I decide to leave one and I do not feel they have been fair in there assessment. It is easy to come into an environment for a short time and make a quick harsh judgement but I am sure they did not take into consideration how difficult it can be to work in this environment on a day to day basis and the pay is definitely not on the higher end of the scale. It is hard work and definitely and thankless job. "

"My mother-in-law was at NHC HealthCare, Parklane and we were very pleased with them. Nurse Dixon was very, very friendly and made us feel that my mother-in-law was in a good place and they were taking good care of her. It was very clean. They were very accommodating to us. They showed a lot of care to their patients. They kept them groomed and looking nice. All of their services were pretty on top of things. They had exemplary customer service. We didn't deal with anyone else but nurses and CNAs. They did have a doctor that would come by and see their patients that I never met. The staff that we did have a little bit of communication with, the ones that brought out their dinners and things like that, were very friendly. The rooms were spacious and very clean, with good closet space for their clothes and shoes. They had gospel singing, and puzzles and they had everyone's nails done. They had a beauty shop, and the beautician was just as nice as she could be. The receptionist was just very friendly."

"I would think anyone being put in the position where they have to put a loved one in a care facility would want a clean, hospitable place to start with. after having my mother here for 9 months i found the conditions unacceptable. The bldg smells of urine from the time you enter, residents are sitting in their own waste too long and infections seem to run higher here then in others I have looked at. I seem to be looking harder at a new place and a healthier environment for my mother to live the remaining of her life. I am saddened to see such poor conditions in a facility that is geared towards quality of life for our elderly when they have supported us for so long. "

"The rooms were comfortable, and the staff was kind and confident. The Physical Therapy was very helpful and got me back on track to return back home to my loving family. I would recommend this facility to anyone seeking Rehabilitation services. I am well on my way to RECOVERY!"

"We visited my dad when he was in PruittHealth in Blythewood. It was pretty much horrible. They kept him in bed the whole time. He never had any kind of exercise. He had a feeding tube placed in. When he got home, he was severely malnourished. We had to spend the first month that he was out of rehab trying to get home rehab because they didn't do rehab when he was there. They weren't accepting visitors. The only time we got to go in was a couple of days before he got released. We went and see him through the window. The staff was nice enough, but anybody can be nice. They didn't feed him. They gave him pureed food. I don't know if the food just didn't have enough nutrients or if they weren't just feeding him enough because when he got home, he was like 98 pounds. In our opinion, they did not do what they were supposed to do. The only time they got him out of the bed was to pick him up and sit him in the chair. He never tried to walk and now we're having to face that because now his muscles are so weak that he can't walk. The people that we spoke with were good. Our caseworker was good. She pretty much answered all the questions we had. It was just the level of care that we weren't too happy with. The outside of the building was nice, but we had only seen the inside once. It was clean."

"My mom moved into White Oak Of Newberry. We chose it because of the very kind and responsive staff, clean facilities, and good location. They have an excellent staff, are well-staffed, and have good doctors. They're effective and a good follow-up. The facility is spacious and has a good activity plan. The food is average, nothing spectacular."
