"Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Columbia was great in every aspect. My father was there for rehab. It was good. They were awesome. The only reason that we could not send him there was that they didn't have any openings. They were very nice, very clean, and they knew what they were talking about. They had him up and moving. They were very patient with him and very patient with us. They answered all of our questions. The rooms were very nice and clean. They didn't smell. The staff was very nice. They're really good. The meals were included, and he said that the food was good. They did all kinds of rehab with him. They would take him to the courtyard and let him come out there and visit."

"Unihealth is a beautiful place, but I wasn’t too happy with it. It is very clean. The staff is very nice but with no experience. They are new. They need consistency and a checklist for each resident that is there. I felt like I had to be there all the time or the right things weren’t done for my mother. She has been there for three months and it was exhausting. They have recreation like movies, arts and crafts, and socials. "

"I have been in and out of many different assisted living and nursing home facilities over the years, and NHC does about the best job of any that I have seen, regardless of location. NHC Parklane in particular does a stellar job, on both the medical side and with good "bedside manner." The staff is always friendly and they go out of their way to be kind to both patients, family, and outside medical staff (EMTs, doctors, etc.) Their patients always seem to be well treated and happy, and are encouraged to participate in group events. The facility is clean and the food always looks tasty. The dining room is very fancy for a nursing home. The individual rooms are spacious and comfortable, and there are never more than two patients to a room - many single rooms are available as well. I would have no trouble allowing one of my own family members to not only stay at this facility, but any NHC facility in the southeastern United States. "

"We had a short visit at Rice Estate. The place is very nice and clean. The staff seemed to be really nice. They did have a lot of activities, and the place is a little pricey. The residents that we saw seemed to be happy and well cared for. "

"I would think anyone being put in the position where they have to put a loved one in a care facility would want a clean, hospitable place to start with. after having my mother here for 9 months i found the conditions unacceptable. The bldg smells of urine from the time you enter, residents are sitting in their own waste too long and infections seem to run higher here then in others I have looked at. I seem to be looking harder at a new place and a healthier environment for my mother to live the remaining of her life. I am saddened to see such poor conditions in a facility that is geared towards quality of life for our elderly when they have supported us for so long. "

"I had a couple of elderly friends that were in Life Care Center Columbia. We went out there once a week for five years with my friend and seemed to be well taken care of. They did have activities and a social worker that did that, but neither of my friends participated in it. They had two people in one room. We went out there for the Thanksgiving dinner that they had, and the food was good. The place is clean. We got to know some of the people there, like the aides, the nurses, and they seemed to be doing a very good job. "

"We visited my dad when he was in PruittHealth in Blythewood. It was pretty much horrible. They kept him in bed the whole time. He never had any kind of exercise. He had a feeding tube placed in. When he got home, he was severely malnourished. We had to spend the first month that he was out of rehab trying to get home rehab because they didn't do rehab when he was there. They weren't accepting visitors. The only time we got to go in was a couple of days before he got released. We went and see him through the window. The staff was nice enough, but anybody can be nice. They didn't feed him. They gave him pureed food. I don't know if the food just didn't have enough nutrients or if they weren't just feeding him enough because when he got home, he was like 98 pounds. In our opinion, they did not do what they were supposed to do. The only time they got him out of the bed was to pick him up and sit him in the chair. He never tried to walk and now we're having to face that because now his muscles are so weak that he can't walk. The people that we spoke with were good. Our caseworker was good. She pretty much answered all the questions we had. It was just the level of care that we weren't too happy with. The outside of the building was nice, but we had only seen the inside once. It was clean."
