I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My cousin was in this facility for rehab for 30 days. she has congestive heart failure and was very weak. During her stay, full covid precautions were in place so we could not visit. She had her cell phone so we could communicate. she said they immediately put her in diapers because she needed help to get up to go to the bathroom and they didn't want to take the time to help her. so they made her soil herself. On top of that, they didn't change her regularly, so she sat in urine for extended periods of time. because of the congestive heart failure, she is on a daily diuretic. the Brian center was refusing to give her the diuretic because they didn't want to change her diapers more than they had to already. during her stay, my cousin gained 27 lbs of water weight from the lack of her diuretic and was so swollen she was almost unrecognizable. At this point, they wouldn't let us in to see her, so She demanded that they call an ambulance ant take her to the ER. She threatened to call the ombudsman as well. they begged her to give them 3 days to get the water retention resolved and they started to give her the diuretic. My cousin was supposed to be there 90 days for the much needed physical therapy but we got her out just shy of 30 days because of the way they were treating her. Once we got her home she got very sick and we had to take her to the ER a day after we got her home. turns out she had picked up a UTI in the Brian center from sitting in her own urine for so long and not being bathed regularly. the infection was so bad that it had gotten into her bloodstream and she went septic. I did some research of my own after the fact, and found out that during my cousin's stay, the Brian center only had ONE CNA for every 28 patients. One. that is ridiculous, abusive, and I can't think of enough words to describe my utter disgust for a place that treats people like this. I have reported all this to the appropriate agencies/people and I'm not sure what came of it. We got her out of there and I hope they get shut down. I'm only giving them a 1 star rating because there are no negative stars.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister was a resident for several months. Prior to Covid restrictions, family was able to check in on her regularly. There were some concerns that were either brought to the staffs' attention by family members or in one case a report was made to DHEC. After Covid restrictions were put in place and family was not able to see my sister regularly, things went down hill quickly. Due to her mental condition, visitations at the window or through Facetime, were not an option. We relied on regular check-ins with the staff which became few and far between. We tried to call multiple times only to be disconnected or sent to a mailbox that was full. Communication was difficult to say the least. We had growing concerns regarding my sisters care and overall well being. Per the family's request, my sister was presented to her primary care physician for a physical. After examining her, the physician made a report to Adult Protective Services. My sister was malnourished, dehydrated, had a severe UTI, an eye infection in both eyes, bed sores and was not able to stand because of excruciating pain caused by extended immobility. If you care about your loved one at all, do not place them at the Brian Center, St. Andrews.

They don't have rails on bed just pad they be out of bed before they know it. And you better keep watching over their shoulders about giving meds. They have 10 wheelchairs we patients in them sitting at nurses desk so as they say can keep a EYE ON THEM!! And my mom was sitting there and she stood up and fell thank the lord she didn't get hurt. My mom's bed is got 3 cranks on the foot you have to crank them to raise head or feet! Staff puts on good front at first. Don't have any idea as far as amenities for them

I am a friend or relative of resident

My husband was cared for here for a month before his death. I found the staff warm, friendly, and competent. I visited frequently, at different times of day and night, and always found the place clean and well staffed. My husband was happy here, all his needs were met, and I could not have asked for better care.

I visited this facility

This was the most unclean facility I have ever been in. The management does not know what they are doing and my grandparent got sent to the wrong facility to have a procedure done outside of the brian center. I can not say anything good about this facility at all.

This place there are not alot of residents. I would say 20 or less. THe staff is always great. The help my mother alot since she doesn't remember alot of things. She has feel a few times, and a time while I was there. The staff was always attentive to her care. The only problem I have with the place, is the concrete on the sidewalks there is a raised gap that allows residents that drag their feet able to fall. I have seen their food, and I can say that it like homecooked meals and snacks. They also order out weekly for the residents, it may be pizza one week, or italian the other. The staff has great communication and love for the residents and the familys.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The staff seems to be composed of, for the most part, very friendly employees. They always seem polite to guest and patients alike. My grandmother enjoys the place for the most part but is, like most patients, ready to go home. She has lived at the Brian Center for about a year without incident. She seems to enjoy the food for the most part and when she does not like the food, I believe that they provide alternatives. The facility, however, is a bit old. I would definitely give the Brian Center 5 stars if they were able to update their facility. Overall, I would say that the Brian Center is a relatively good place for family members to stay.

Very clean and efficient, dependable facility with excellent staff. They helped my mother get back on her feet and walk again. The staff was very nice, helpful and we got excellent results.
