"I would think anyone being put in the position where they have to put a loved one in a care facility would want a clean, hospitable place to start with. after having my mother here for 9 months i found the conditions unacceptable. The bldg smells of urine from the time you enter, residents are sitting in their own waste too long and infections seem to run higher here then in others I have looked at. I seem to be looking harder at a new place and a healthier environment for my mother to live the remaining of her life. I am saddened to see such poor conditions in a facility that is geared towards quality of life for our elderly when they have supported us for so long. "

"The staff seems to be composed of, for the most part, very friendly employees. They always seem polite to guest and patients alike. My grandmother enjoys the place for the most part but is, like most patients, ready to go home. She has lived at the Brian Center for about a year without incident. She seems to enjoy the food for the most part and when she does not like the food, I believe that they provide alternatives. The facility, however, is a bit old. I would definitely give the Brian Center 5 stars if they were able to update their facility. Overall, I would say that the Brian Center is a relatively good place for family members to stay. "

"Columbia Presbyterian is a very nice place. My mom is in a semi-private room. It had a little more privacy and had a little more space. It was also nice. I had problems with some of her clothes going missing there, but I like the place. Most of the staff is very good. I ran into one or two people there that I really liked. They have activities, but my mother was not really in a position to participate. I like the environment. It's very clean, pleasant and a fairly healthy attitude. But it was also a little bit out of my budget. "

"Life Care Center has a decent reputation and is one of the larger nursing homes in Columbia. I have been regularly transporting patients to and from there for many years. As far as the building itself goes, I would rate it a 4/5 - the only thing that keeps it from a 5 is that it feels slightly more like a hospital than a place for people to live. The staff is very caring and friendly, and they provide lots of activities for their patients. Amenities include a large dining hall, a library, a barber shop/beauty shop, and even an Ice Cream Parlor (My personal favorite). The staff in the Alzheimer's/Dementia wing of Life Care is of particular note. They have always been very kind and compassionate towards any patient I've ever brought into their ward. While Life Care is certainly not the absolute best facility in Columbia, it is far from the worst and I would recommend it. "

"The care that NHC HealthCare - Lexington provides to my mom is very good. The physical therapists are awesome. They're very nice and the food is good. Mama has enjoyed it and everybody that I've met has been very nice. I think very highly of them. They have a common area with a small library and it's very nicely furnished. She likes to go down there and watch TV. The facility itself is very clean and nicely done, too. There are no bad smells at all in that place. She has a semi-private room. It's clean and she has a closet, one chest of drawers, and two drawers that she can put her stuff in."

"My brother stayed in a shared room at Agape. He was there for rehab, which he appreciated. However, he was not happy with some of the services at Agape. He told me that they just didn't respond to calls for assistance quickly enough. I don't know if it's a valid complaint or not; but for example, there was someone in another room calling for help. Some of the staff were standing outside the hall and chatting. No one helped the person at all. So my brother went in and found that the patient just wanted somebody to turn the light out. "

"We visited my dad when he was in PruittHealth in Blythewood. It was pretty much horrible. They kept him in bed the whole time. He never had any kind of exercise. He had a feeding tube placed in. When he got home, he was severely malnourished. We had to spend the first month that he was out of rehab trying to get home rehab because they didn't do rehab when he was there. They weren't accepting visitors. The only time we got to go in was a couple of days before he got released. We went and see him through the window. The staff was nice enough, but anybody can be nice. They didn't feed him. They gave him pureed food. I don't know if the food just didn't have enough nutrients or if they weren't just feeding him enough because when he got home, he was like 98 pounds. In our opinion, they did not do what they were supposed to do. The only time they got him out of the bed was to pick him up and sit him in the chair. He never tried to walk and now we're having to face that because now his muscles are so weak that he can't walk. The people that we spoke with were good. Our caseworker was good. She pretty much answered all the questions we had. It was just the level of care that we weren't too happy with. The outside of the building was nice, but we had only seen the inside once. It was clean."

"This review is for Sarah, the Activities Director. She is someone who genuinely cares for the residents in Memory Care, not just performing a job. She strives to bring quality of life for these residents through the many interactions she plans on a daily basis. She engages and encourages and without her I am not sure how our family would have survived the shutdowns over the last year. Living 3000 miles away, I can only say that the weekly FaceTime calls, the photos she sent me showing my mother participating and the encouragement she gave allowed me peace when I could not visit. Sarah goes above and beyond what is expected of her to give every single resident a sense of accomplishment and importance. She even took her own personal time to purchase ingredients to help my mom make her favorite pie for the pie contest in March. There is originality in her activities, and she focuses on what the residents have enjoyed in their past as well as bringing them joy in each day. She will play my mom’s favorite hymn for her on her phone, read devotionals to her on the bad days, and encourage mom to engage. I can’t imagine what my mom’s life would have been like over the last 16 months if Sarah was not there. We cannot say thank you to her enough."

They have cottages or houses that are for independent-living as well as apartments. They have the full facility with long term, assisted living, and independent. I saw the room my uncle was in and it was very nice. They have a big campus. It’s a lot of green space. "
