"Brookdale was very nice. Basically it was the kind of layout where the people got dressed and went to a dining facility, so it’s more social. The staff were very nice and knowledgeable. I like the setup of the dining area. Sanitation was good, no odors, and it was a very nice facility. "

"I had looked at over 10 places for my mother, when I picked up the phone and called The Benton House. I was greeted by a person that was able to answer all my questions both professional and with kindness and respect. My mom and my family visited several times, and we loved Benton House each time, more and more. Staff is kind, responsive, and always thinking of the person they are assisting. Food is great, and service and details are excellent. We could not be happier, we found mom a new home in this amazing new stage of her life. "

"Brandon Wilde was nice. It would be where I would want to be because I'm looking for more of an independent unit outside the apartment-style complex, and they had a few of those, but there was a significant deal breaker, and they wanted from $200,000 to $300,000 as a down payment. None of the other places I looked at required a downpayment other than maybe a month or two, but they required these exorbitant downpayments with fees that amounted to, in my case, more than my house's worth, and then their monthly fee was approximately what all the other facilities had set up. Some units had medium-sized refrigerators and a microwave or a plug where you could put in your own heating device, but once you get out of the those larger units, you would go into a very, very small kitchen because they expected you to eat in their facilities, and you just warm up stuff in your room. They all had very nice dining rooms, and the menus looked good. I did not try all the food. The inside of the facility was nice. The exterior units looked as though there was stuff that had piled up there. So, they weren't as nice, but inside the apartment-type units appeared to be very clean, and they were in the process of redoing them after one resident leaves, like repainting and taking care of the units. So, it looked as though they did a good job of getting it ready for the next person. I talked to one owner there (I view them as more of an owner than an assisted care person), and he was very happy with his unit. He had a two-bedroom study. So, he had three rooms in there. They had just moved in two years ago. His wife had died right after the first year, so he got this unit by himself, but the commitment was already there because the two-bedroom unit was probably about $500,000 to buy into. So, you can't go back to your house, and you've got this unit, and it's a fixed price until you die."

"Waverly Gardens of Evans is clean, the residents appeared to be very pleased with it, and the cost was very effective for my friend. She will be having an 11x11 studio apartment with a walk-in shower. The grounds are very nice, and it has a closed-in courtyard and a really nice front porch. It's a small facility which I like."

"Benton House of Aiken was very nice and well laid out. The rooms were spacious but had limited kitchens. The people that live there usually have a kitchenette, which was small. But it looked like the menu was very full and variable each day. It's in a great part of town, too. The staff was very friendly, very thorough, and very patient. They were excellent. They had several outdoor courtyards, a beauty shop, and a van for transportation. They had like a movie room, too."

"The part I like best at Shadow Oaks Assisted Living is their home and residents. They're very clean, bright, and cheerful. The staff was very knowledgeable. They have different people who come for entertainment; they play games and take them for doctor's appointment if they have one. "

"I toured Trinity on Laurens. It was a well-laid out. The rooms were smaller overall like they will only fit a twin bed, and you couldn't fit a full-sized bed, so most people use the beds at the facility. But the staff was very thorough. It is in a downtown location, which is very nice. It makes it more accessible to the things that little Aiken has to offer. The menu looked good, it seemed a little more limited in terms of the daily offerings, but it still looked very good. The staff was very conscientious and very thorough. They had the typical amenities. They have a barbershop, a bus, and a couple of nice courtyards. One nice thing about Trinity on Laurens is that they have a lot of outside porches. And because it's downtown, it's kind of nice, and you can sit outside. Most of the rooms that we saw had an exterior exposure. In other words, there's a window or something, which is nice. "

"My mother is at The Plaza at St. John Towers. Where she is living now, she has no stove because they give them three meals a day. They have a lot of entertainment. They have a salon and an exercise room. Also they have different pastors that visit them, and they have Bible study. It is a very nice place. The caregivers are nice; however, they'll tell you straight that it is not their job. They don't even assist my mom getting into her bed anymore. She is in a wheelchair, and she has to scoot herself around to get into her bed, and whatever way she falls to the mattress, that is the way she stays because nobody bothers to put her in there correctly. The facility is very attractive. They keep it very nice. It is very well run. However, they really need to improve on their workers. They need a strong supervisor over them. "

"Mom stayed at Stevens Park Health & Rehabilitation for 2 weeks and it was an excellent experience. I would highly recommend this place. The staff was absolutely great with us. They had bingo, arts and crafts, a barber shop and a beauty shop, an area for the patients' visitors, and cable TV access all the time. Mom had a private room while she was there. I tried their food and it was excellent."

"At Sunrise Senior Living's Christmas Party, when I volunteered for a military function I found the perfect place to retire. We were all dressed up in our Class A's and spent an evening chatting, eating dinner, and then dancing with the people who lived there and their families. The music was from the 20's to 50's mostly, and the DJ played some crowd favorites like conga line. The furniture, like the staff was genuine and the decorations were professionally done. There were singles, and couples. I was impressed that some people really have a strong enough bond to have lasted all those years and that they were still enjoying life together. I want that to go to holiday parties with my beloved husband when I'm older. We'll have some chicken cordon bleu, dessert, wine, and dancing. We'll share a room and furnish it with our things, and let someone else cook the meals. "
