Staff is nice to your face, cold to your loved one. If they require an iota of care or attention, they are treated worse than dog.

My mother is staying at Canterbury House, and I like it a lot. The staff is excellent. It's a small place, which is a good thing, and older but nice.

Kiva was very simple. It wasn’t a big place, but it was very limited. I think anyone who has any money would hope to go somewhere else. They’re very sad. The rooms had been painted, and some of the furnishings were nice. Some of them just looked very tired. That’s how we found it. They were 2 people per room. It had its own closet, but there was no real chance of personalizing space. They had a big TV, and people would just sit around and watch it. There weren’t places for them to go. It was a small, homey place, but not something that a very actively-minded person would fit in.
