"Canterfield of Fort Myers was very attractive. We had a positive first impression. It's a new modern facility. The staff who accommodated us was excellent. She gave a very good tour and was very thoughtful. We liked her a lot, and we liked the place pretty much, too. It was a close call there, but we just couldn't make it happen. We did not try the food there, but that would be one bit of advice that I would tell everyone, to be sure you eat three meals any place where you go because that's over half of what you're paying for the place. It's a very difficult situation because you're not likely to be able to make any changes to that situation, no one ever gave us that advice."

"My friend moved into Brookdale. It was clean, friendly, they greet everybody, and there were not so many people. They have singers that come in, some entertainment that comes in, games they play, and books to read. They have a doctor that comes in and sees my friend. However, they're short-staffed and they need to hire more people."

"The Gallery at Cape Coral is the one that we're impressed with. All of the staff members we met with and talked with were friendly. One of the plans that they have is where we could put down like $3,000 and pick our room, and then if that room got taken, we could pick another room till it was all gone, so that was good. In other words, if we put a house up for sale and it sells in a month, we can move in. If it sells in four months, we still have a place to move into without any more money down. So that's one of the big things. They have also bent over backward for us. One day they couldn't get a hold of us for whatever reason, so they came over because they were worried about us. The kitchen part of the room is all furnished. Of course, the rest of it is furnished. But overall, if we have to pick one right now and move into it, that would probably be our first choice. And the staff who gave the tour was great."

"American House Coconut Point was a very nice place. They're more upscale looking than the other one I visited and nicer. They had very nice people. We felt welcomed. Everything was clean and looked like it was either a brand new place or remodeled. They were super nice to us. The rooms had a full-size kitchen, and they're very nice."

"We toured Lehigh Acres Assisted Living. They kept the place nice looking. The staff, even the custodial people, was helpful during the free lunch. We felt good about the place, and the price was right. She physically took us around and showed us the different places and how much they were. We came back, and after our tour, we sat down at a table. She went over some forms with us and gave us some pricing as well. She's very personable. The outside looked very nice. It's well-kept inside and clean."

"The community did not have any outside patios in the apartments, but they had a courtyard. The lady that did the tour was wonderful. She spent a lot of time with us and she did a wonderful job. She was knowledgeable and was able to provide information about the location and what's around that area. It was lovely."

"American House Bonita Springs provides transportation and daily activities. They also offer transitional aging, but it just wasn't all under one roof. Other than that, the staff was very cordial. I liked that they don't shove it down your throat. They were focusing on the positives of the facility and trying to show you that."

"We toured Alva Senior Living. I went and looked at all the rooms and what they have. We met with the director of the senior living section. We just walked through the whole thing, and she told us all about it, and we asked questions, and she answered all of them. The rooms were small, but they're very nice. They furnish everything except a mattress. So you don't have to bring your own furniture. They have rooms with big bathrooms and rooms with small bathrooms. We toured the dining area. They only have five people right now, and they're only gonna have a total of 16 when they're full. It's a very small unit. It was as clean as it could be. They have a big common room on the front of the building, and at one end is the dining room, which has a big long table with chairs, and it was decorated with fresh roses. It was very pretty. I didn't actually go into the kitchen, but I talked to the cook who was standing at the door, and she said they cook everything there. They don't buy any premade stuff. They have an area where, if somebody wants something during the day, like a snack or something to drink, or if they want something to eat, they can go and request it, and they can get it during the day if they want that. The staff was really good, answered our questions, and were very friendly. They're new, so they're just getting started. It was very nice."

"My dad has been here for a few weeks now, and he's happy there. I'm pretty happy with the place too. He has a nice apartment, and the residents are generally happy. Some days are different from the others, but the last time I was there, I heard people laughing. It was like a big party and dad loves it. He's very happy to have company, and he's getting everything he needs. The staff members are all very nice and cheerful, and they seem to enjoy their jobs. There's also longevity within the staff. Some of them have been there for a long time. He likes the food so far. They said he eats all of it and finishes his plate. The building was recently remodeled, like a year ago, so it looks good. He just has a closet door that could be in a little better shape, but that's not a big deal. It's all been remodeled, so it's nice, clean, and neat, and the bathroom looks good and modern. They do have activities every day. Some days it's bingo, then it's something else other days. Dad is very interested in that. It's perfect for the memory care residents. The decor is kind of weird, though; like in the hallway off to one side, there's a crib with a few baby dolls in it and they look realistic. It seems kind of weird to normal people but I get it. You have babies and that's something that everybody could relate to, and then over in the other hallway, they have a little tool area set out. So it's like a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but it's interesting and seems conducive to keeping them amused."

"My mom is in here, which is close to my house. They have enough people who seem to be good with the residents. The food is OK. "

"It was very nice. It was in a wooded area and had vegetation around the building. The person that interviewed me was very thorough and very knowledgeable. I saw residents in the living area and on the porches. The dining room was adequate and very nice. I was impressed with the place."

"We will move into Seascape at Naples. It's two bedrooms, two baths, plenty of room, very much like where we're coming from, and we have an end unit. My husband's a veteran, so we got quite a discount. It just has everything we need and want. It's more like a home. Everything is supplied. You also have breakfast and lunch, breakfast and dinner, or dinner and lunch. They take you to the doctor if you need it, and they have trips. They have all kinds of things going on every day that would be good for my husband. Everything that interests us. We've looked around a lot, and this is our favorite. Grace and Carrie were both wonderful."

"I have been working with he staff at the Collier at Naples for over a month and I can not say enough about them! Scott and Richard are absolutely amazing! My mother has been there for a few weeks now and I can honestly say that I am sleeping better at night knowing that she is in great hands. I highly recommend this facility and the staff again, Scott and Richard, have gone above and beyond to make my mother comfortable and safe!"

"When looking for a home for your loved ones the best advise I can give is GO SMALL! Don't get pulled in by the fancy furniture, linen tablecloths etc...that many of the large facilities offer. I did that and my mom was just another number. There was no continuity of care and the staff changed so much that they didn't know who she was. Then I found Brookdale Punta Gorda and my mother has been there for almost 8 years. She is part of their family and they are part of ours. I can rest easy knowing that she is with friends who know her so well. Thanks to the current management and CNA's she is getting the best care and attention that I have seen in a long time. Thanks Brookdale for all you do to insure that my mother is well cared for!! Also, when researching facilities, look at the tenure of the staff - especially the Health & Wellness Director, nursing and key CNA's (certified nursing assistants). It's tough to keep staff for long in this industry but Brookdale Punta Gorda has done a great job and created an environment that makes staff enjoy where they work."
