This facility, which offers both independent and assisted living, is located next to a nursing home, but not affiliated with it. It's easy to get to"”and a nice size. It's also well maintained"”with staff on duty around the clock to clean and monitor the environment. This place serves residents who have few resources and can't pay out of pocket for longterm care, but want an option to a traditional nursing facility. Residents are free to come and go in the community, which is fairly easy and convenient, since public transportation is nearby. The woman who runs the place is very involved with the residents, and seems genuinely concerned about their well being. The staff includes a case manager and supervisor; caregivers come in when needed, different people for different residents. This facility is unique"”all for low-income seniors, in a group home setting, with only a few residents. Each resident has a private room. Meals are provided in a common dining room and kitchen. Because it's a small place with mostly independent living, there are no real organized activities. It's a good transition for those who can't afford many other senior living laces, but don't want to be isolated. The people who live here can get subsidized help with the in-home care from the city"”and that help is rare. It feels like a home, allows for more independence than a nursing home and is especially good for people who like a small place and some company around. Residents who need more care than is available, however, need to transition to another place.
