The home of Yale University, New Haven is full of historic charm, cultural venues and many shops and restaurants. There are currently more than 13,000 seniors living in New Haven, which ranks as one of the 100 Best Places to Retire in the USA, according to U.S. News, and is quickly attracting a growing number of retirees. It’s considered one of Connecticut’s most walkable cities, receiving a walk score of 68. Local transportation is available through CTtransit, which may be helpful to seniors during winter months. The city offers a number of resources and services for seniors, including three senior centers that offer fitness classes, organized activities and occasional day trips to local attractions, as well as access to one of the world’s leading medical teaching facilities, Yale New Haven Hospital.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
