Crestview seemed very nice according to our visit. The place looked very good and had very good value. Across the street, there's a nice senior center.

I visited this facility
April 01, 2014
I am a friend or relative of a resident
I originally looked at Maple Grove East when I was considering independent living for my mom and chose not to use it because it is too small for independent living. However, when she fell and the hospital put her on insulin, and she lost her procedural memory, I found out that some assisted places will not give her injections, and she needs a small place to look over her. That is why I chose Maple Grove East, and I am really pleased with them because they are doing a nice job. My mom gives herself her shots, as she has her flex pen, and they are not allowed to give her shots, but they are there to oversee and check that she is not doing it wrong.
The building is not brand new, but I like it. It is in an area that, years ago, originally belonged to ENT air force base. It is also very near the Olympic training center, which was also originally part of ENT air force base. They are all L-shape buildings with one story. They remodeled them and set up for ten single rooms. The owner's father is diabetic, and he is aware of the needs of a diabetic. One thing he didn't want is people walking down the hall to the bathroom. So when you walk in the room, it will appear there are two closets with accordion doors. One really is a closet, and the other one is a half bath, which has a toilet and a sink. This is one thing that is really nice about it because my mother gets up a lot, and I like that she has her own room with a toilet and a sink. I will have trouble wanting her in a place that didn't have that. There is also a larger bath on each wing of the building where they can take showers. There is also a laundry room.
The dining room is set up as a family environment rather than a big place. They have a dining table that holds five people. They have around eight residents, and they divide them into two groups. As far as the food goes, one thing that I wish that they had, which they say they don't, is specialty meals. So, I am not sure that every meal that Mom has is officially a good diabetic meal.
One of my concerns is that small places do not have many activities, and there are several things that I am told will happen which afterwards do not seem to be happening. After I talked to them about that, they did a much better job in doing that. They are trying very hard to have some kind of activity every day, and my mother participates in them. They are also up the street from a senior center, and they load up the ladies in the van and go to the senior center.
The only problem, and it is a problem everywhere, is the turnover of the staff. It would be nice if the staff would stay the same all the time so the residents can get used to that. However, I know that is problem everywhere, and there nothing much we can do about it.
