My former husband moved into Carlton Senior Living Sacramento. I've been there several times, and several hours each time when I do visit. I'm just impressed with its cleanliness, and with the staff in particular. It's not a new facility, it was built in 1985, but it has the amenities that we thought were important for him. It's clean and doesn't smell. Any nursing home type or assisted living place will occasionally have that, but they don't last longer. They're cleaned up. The staff is so extremely well trained. They speak to him by name and that happened like immediately when he moved in. Somehow every single staff member knew his name almost immediately, and always calls him by name. They're friendly. The response when he has a need, like he has a Foley catheter, it has to be emptied. He has a call button and they come quickly. Every person is polite. Every person has a very pleasant, caring persona. He likes the food and the variety of food. He has nothing negative to say about it. His daughter and I and her husband picked it out, and he says, you found me a good place, and that says a lot. He's happy. He feels like he's in a good place. So far he's not chosen to get into any activities. However, I see lots of activities, and the residents seem to be very busy. They're very active. It's obvious you can be just as active as you care to be or don't care to be.

My mother in law lives here. The food here is horrible. They have chicken night after night. The chef comes out and yells at residents that complain. The food is cold and they frequently run out. Many residents buy their own food and eat in their rooms just to avoid the dining room.

Carlton Senior Living Sacramento was very, very nice. I was toured and met with one of the sales managers, and it was fabulous because I was supposed to be with just a regular person there whom I'm sure would have been great, but that woman had to take leave for some reason, and so I ended up with, I believe it was the director of sales management. She was excellent. She knew exactly all the information about that particular facility that I needed, and she was also a very kind, perceptive, and intuitive woman, and she listened to me and the whole story about my friend. We talked for about 15 minutes in her office. She toured me throughout the entire facility, and then ultimately led me to a room that is now open, that they were in the process of totally renovating. She was redoing the room and recommended that one for my friend. She said, "We both know that it was far from the elevator, which probably wouldn't be a good idea for her, because she'd want to be closer to be able to get to the dining room." But she said that once you live there, my friend could start there, and try it out, even though they do not do it officially anymore. She was willing to do that unofficially. My friend could try it out. As she strengthened and felt like, "You know what, I can go home now, I'm going home." Or, "you know what? I don't want to go home. I like it here, and I like the services here." We toured the gardens, the rooms, the dining room, the card rooms, and the facilities there where they have educational conferences. She took me in to meet the physical therapist who is awesome and has a wonderful program. Then we went back to the office and we sat down and we calculated which services she would need in addition to the rental she would have to pay. And so I had a good idea of what to tell her it would cost when we got home, and even with services added, she was going to come out saving money over the hour-to-hour caregiving that she's getting now. We went through the courtyard, the gardens, and the common areas. There was a card room where people were playing cards. There was a room where people were in a class. The lady who toured me around had years of experience. She was knowledgeable about the facility and how it runs, and she was very flexible in terms of what our needs might be and how they could meet those needs. She was extremely affable, very kind, and very easy to be with. She gave me a chart that shows a schedule of the food that was available. It looked quite good. And she said it's good food herself. I believed her. I didn't think it was a sales gimmick. She said, "Here's the snack room. People can come in at any time for snacks." We were in the dining room, there were a couple of people in there, and it looked bright and clean.

Carlton Senior Living Sacramento had an excellent tour person. I was able to sit down with her before starting the tour. We had a nice friendly chat. Overall, I enjoyed the tour. I didn't even have to ask because she anticipated what I was going to ask. I left there with no doubts or questions unanswered. I saw a one-bedroom apartment that was being remodeled. There was no furniture, no carpeting, or drapes. It looked roomier than I thought a one-bedroom would look. It had a bedroom, a living area, a bath, and a small food preparation area with a microwave. There was no stovetop. There was a small refrigerator. It would be very serviceable and livable. The whole facility was very clean and odor-free. The dining facilities are open from 7 AM. to 7 PM. It is like restaurant-style dining. You have a menu, and you can order anything you want.

My mom has been in Carlton Senior Living Sacramento Enhanced for three weeks now. We paid for various functions there; daily functions like escort to get her to the dining room and stuff like that. They've been pretty persistent about not allowing somebody to stay in their room all the time, which was an issue we had in another facility that would just allow her to lay in her bed all day and bring her food and not move. We were able to get physical therapy for her there. So far, first impressions are very good. Obviously, expenses are always key with an elderly, and I think it's very competitive over there to some of the other places we have been at. Overall, first impressions have been very good. I haven't interacted with the staff other than when I moved my mother in there (because I live out of state), but they were all friendly and nice. Her room is studio. It's small, but it's clean. There's not much more than that. She doesn't need much more because she doesn't get around that much. The facility was clean, very organized, and very receptive. They have movies going on. They have activities, and they have stuff there going on for the people living there. Value for money is very good compared to some other places. What we're getting right now is that care is expensive, but they are in line with everybody else.

Carlton Senior Living center (off Fulton Ave): Very clean and well kept facility with independent living, assisted living and memory care options. Folks seemed happy to be there, nice wall of employees who have been at the facility for 15-20 years as employees. Nice that meals are ordered when seniors need rather than limited by certain meal hours. Central location of Carlton center. Appreciated efficient tour of center by Innes. I felt safe, like a haven from the hustle/bustle of surrounding area. Nice plan in place in case someone falls e.g. on site RN, and paramedics.

We've been to Carlton Senior Living in Sacramento, and I think they're very good. Our contact has been more with Amy, the staff who helped us, and she was a real superstar. She just got everything done right away, no messing around, and she had all the answers. She was very, very good. Everything at Carlton was very nice.

Carlton Senior Living Sacramento was nice. It's an age-in-place kind of facility, so there's plenty of things for people to do, but there's something about it that didn't feel right. It had a four-star rating, but we didn't like the rooms. They had teeny-tiny counters with a sink and a little refrigerator. You really have to go to the dining room for everything. The staff and everything was fine.

My friend has moved into Carlton Senior Living Sacramento. So far, so good. She is adjusting. She likes the care, she likes the food, and she likes the environment. We have a win-win here. The staff members are very professional, very thorough, very kind, and very gentle with her. They answered all our questions. Right now, she is not participating in any activities, but she has only been there for a little bit, so we are not pushing it. Her room is small but adequate. The dining area is very clean and nicely decorated. It is always ready and the tables are set. It has a very nice appeal.

Carlton Senior Living Sacramento was one of the nicest ones we visited, but it was more money. The staff during the tour was very good. The layout was very good. It's got nice facilities and nice outside area. The rooms were nice and laid out better than others. The dining area was more upscale. They had salad bars. They have entertainment and they offer physical therapy. The food is excellent.

Carlton Senior Living was very nice and very welcoming. It seemed like it might work out for my father-in-law. The staff sent information to my mother-in-law in Hawaii, which was great. The staff members were very professional. They interacted very appropriately with the people who were there, so that was all good. I was very impressed with them. The rooms were nice, clean, and spacious. They looked very good. The amenities sounded nice, too. They had transportation. The only thing that was missing was the swimming pool. There were people up in the living area watching TV and playing cards, which was good.

I visited Carlton Senior Living Sacramento. They're very helpful, very informative, answered all my questions, and showed me around the place. It's a very nice facility. They showed me a shared room and a single room. They had buses that would pick them up and take them to the casinos and shopping. This is for people whose minds are OK. My mom's mind is not right. They had great dining, exercise rooms, a hairstylist, and everything that an adult would need, including going to the doctor and shopping. They had a memory care unit which is separate so if they advanced from assisted living and you needed more care, they had a special area for that. It's locked. It's nice that if you started there, you could stay there until the end. Everything's nice.

Carlton Senior Living Sacramento looked good. Somebody in one of their wards had a stroke and that person had to take my sister's slot, so that lost the vacancy for us. The staff was knowledgeable. We were impressed by what we saw on the activity list. There was one dining room in the building where my sister would have eaten.

The nursing staff at this facility are fantastic. The various staff members, including the Resident Liaison, Sierra are quick to respond to questions and all staff seem to truly care about the residents. The food is good as well.

I went to Carlton Senior Living Sacramento. It was a very nice place that looked cheery and active. The food was good. The rooms were larger but more expensive. The community was right in the heart of Sacramento, and the grounds looked very nice. The places they showed me were very nice but were more than my mother needed and more expensive.

We saw several rooms at the Carlton of decent size. They’re certainly spacious-looking and generally bright; however, when you look out the window, unless you’re looking into the courtyard, the other part was just really lacking in environment for me. I am not super excited about the location, but the community itself was lovely. The people were helpful.

Carlton Senior Living Sacramento looked and fely like a high-end hotel, but the price was a little higher. There were two people at the reception area when we arrived, who were very friendly, very attentive, and very good.

Carlton has a room for us in the assisted living part of the building. They have physical activities, games, and serve three meals a day. I chose it because I can live with my wife in the room that we’re moving into.

The staff at Carlton Plaza is very caring and appropriate. Their service is good. They have a lot of activities, and they are all appropriate for people with dementia. The communication isn't what I had hoped for, but I plan to have a meeting with the manager next week. I'll tell her what I expect, and hopefully she'll be able to do it. The room is very nice. It is a private room, and my mom only shares a bathroom and a hallway with somebody else. But she has the ability to close the door and be completely by herself which is good for her. It is very nice. It is not huge, but it is certainly adequate. The dining room setup is fine. As for improvement, they should have a set for communications with family if the family members want to hear from them regularly. I would like a weekly email detailing what mom has done in the last week and what things have been changed.

I visited my friend and his wife at the Carlton Plaza, and it was a nice and clean facility, but he commented that they are somewhat understaffed which is a common problem with facilities. They were having a meal at the time of my visit. I saw that they have a menu, and the food seemed to be very good.

Carlton Plaza was nice and clean, the people were really friendly, and the food was excellent. They didn't have just the plain straight room to eat in; it was broken up into sections, which made it a little more intimate, and therefore didn't have the straight dining room feeling. They didn't have any two-bedrooms and the rooms didn't fit the needs that we have for our parents. But, they were very accommodating to us and were willing to go out of their way to show us.

Crown Plaza is very nice, very friendly. They're caring. It has worked out. My mom had a rough start in that she fell because she had hurt herself before she got there. She was not there for the first month and a half. She was in a nursing home. After she got back, she's finally getting settled and she's doing a lot of things. They've been very helpful. They seem to know what she's doing, everything about her. They seem very attentive.

DO NOT ALLOW YOUR SENIOR RELATIVE OR FRIEND TO GO TO THIS FACILITY! The management at the Carlton Plaza on Fulton is terrible. My family has filed approximately 15 complaints with the state licensing department in a four month period regarding my grandmother's care, safety, and living conditions. The facility was cited for falsifying my grandmother's paperwork in an effort to circumvent communication with the listed responsible party, my mother. The executive director then used that falsified paperwork as a means to communicate only with my grandmother who has dementia and was recently diagnosed with early Alzheimer's. The executive director is extremely unethical and manipulative...she is all about business and not about people and their families. She even was recently reprimanded by her corporate office and mandated to take some type of sensitivity classes/seminars after talking about some residents to other residents in a nasty, negative manner (think middle school name calling!). Absolutely unacceptable! Failure to respond in a timely manner to my grandmother's emergency call button this spring also resulted in a citation by the state licensing department. Then three months later in June the Carlton completely failed to respond to my grandmother's emergency call button causing her to suffer in her apartment all night in horrific pain. Because this was a repeat offence in such a short period of time the Carlton's citation will be more serious. I could go on and on discussing the problems with this facility, but I think three major incidents verified and cited by the state licensing department is enough said...all between March and June. There are many other incidences that have occurred with other residents, my grandmother was not the only one. Whenever you visit elderly living facilities ask to see their DSS binder with the reports of all state complaints. Ask at the Carlton and you will see pages and pages of recent complaints. BEWARE OF THIS FACILITY! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Carlton Plaza did have assisted living as well as independent. It was a little bit of an older facility, but it was fine. However, we weren't very impressed with this place. We liked their services and stuff, but we didn't like the way they did it. I think it is really set up more for independent living just by looking at it and how everything was laid out in the facility. It was nice, but I would give it an overall rating of 3 out of 5. Also, it was near a major road, and Fulton Ave is very busy, so that was kind of maybe a little bit of a distraction. The people were generally friendly. We didn't have any problems with the staff. They did have a range of rooms, but they weren't huge. I would say they were just an average size.

My father has been a memory care resident for more than a year. Our family could not be happier with the experience. It is so hard to quantify the relief in knowing a loved one is well cared for by truly sincere people. The fact is, he is happier and healthier than he was at home. A social person by nature, he has benefited greatly by living in a community setting. I am constantly amazed at the patience, love and dedication all of the employees show to each resident. The food is outstanding as well. Truly! My greatest hope is that financial resources will allow him to stay as long as needed.

I'm already in Carlton Plaza of Sacramento and I'm very satisfied with this facility. It is very clean. There is no smell. They clean once a week. They also change your sheets once a week. What I like best in this facility is their food. Also their staff is really great.

Carlton Plaza of Sacramento has a state of the art dementia and alzheimer's memory care community. The community is designed in a circular fashion with really interesting murals on the walls of places around the world. Since most memory care residents like to wander with the community set in circular fashion it allows them to walk around the community with out ever getting lost. What is nice is that the care staff always has them in view as well for immediate assistance. I personally found the care staff to be very warm, caring and capable. This place is a must to visit. Very wonderful place!

Memory care at the Carlton of Elk Grove. Staff are young and very inexperienced in dealing with behaviors associated with ALZ/dementia. Safety is also a concern. My mothers stay was only 30 days due to serious safety concerns/falls.

Carlton Plaza is very new. We went on a hardhat tour in November. I think it's just too big. I wasn't crazy about the idea of my mom who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's, trying to figure out which floor of craft class was on. But I like the cafeteria style of their dining room. You sit down and somebody would come and take your order. I like that, it was kind of cool. Instead of going to a main dining room and sitting with a bunch of people, you can sit in a booth with one person or sit by yourself. I like the concept. I'd like my mom to stay here because it offers so many things and for what she might need in the future.

Overall the facility was very well put together. The staff was conciencious and caring. They actually seemed to like their jobs for the most part. The facility was large, but not too large to be confusing. There were different rooms for different activities, like game rooms and movie rooms. The dining area downstairs was nice, as it replicated being outside with its sunroof. The food was mediocre, as it was quite bland and some dishes were not warm. The menu seemed to rotate constantly though, and kept the residents from being bored with the food. Desert was quite delicious. There were numerous activities planned, like different training classes and film screenings and whoever managed events did a good job. The day I went, there was a live band playing in the lobby and many of the residents seemed to enjoy them alot. The garden outside in the back of the facility was a nice touch to the overall layout of the facility, as it let people enjoy being outside without being far from assistance. Parking for visitors was never an issue, and since there is a roof over the entry way, it permitted many people to come in and out without being rained upon.

My grandmother lives in the Carlton Plaza in Sacramento and words cannot describe how satisfied both she and the rest of my family are with this establishment. Like most people I was scared to leave her in a "home" but this place is absolutely wonderful. The staff seem very friendly and eager to please. They always seem to be in a good mood. The facilities and amenities this place has to offer are excellent. The dining area seems more like a restaurant than a cafeteria and the living room is luxurious to say the least. I was worried that the residents of this place would have nothing to do and be bored all day but that is certainly not the case here. They provide entertainment many nights and their movie theater is top notch. The healthcare here seems to be top notch and the attention my grandmother receives is excellent. All in all I truly believe my grandmother is happier here than she had been at her previous home.

While looking for a facility to place my grandfather in I came across Carlton Plaza. This facility is very luxurious and up to date. As we walked around the staff were very courteous and you could tell they really meant it when they said "Hi how are you today" and weren't just doing it because it was their job. They seemed to really enjoy their jobs which was very important to me because it you don't like your job your not going to do it to the best of your ability and my grandpa means the world to me and I want him to have the best care possible. They told us that they cater to those with special needs such as diabities and always make sure they are up on their medication and doctors visits. That didn't really apply to my grandfather but it was nice to know that they take care of all their residents not just the healthy ones. One other thing that I really liked was the dinning situation they have the dinning room open to cater to the residents eating schedule so its pretty much open all the time, and they make specific meals according to residents allergies or if they are diabetic etc. I would definitely recommend this place to others. Sadly my grandpa passed away unexpectedly and we never go the chance to use this facility but I will definitely keep it in mind for anyone else.

First the positive: Good safe location. Very nice interior and exterior. Very well kept, very clean. Good food, lots of choices and easy access. Lots of activities and entertainment. Friendly staff, most seemed to really care about the residents. Now the negative: Very pricey, some of the staff didn't seem to care just going thru the motions. Supposed to be secure for memory patients but my mom was able to leave the area a couple of times. My mom was able to convince a staff member to use their cell phone to call me and it was strictly forbidden. She also accessed the central phone and wasn't supposed to have access. Not enough supervision, again it was a memory ward and there were several times when patients would just walk into my mom's room while I visited. There were a few mix ups in the transfer of meds from the hospital to the facility and we had insurance problems long after her stay. I would be hard pressed to recommend this facility for a memory patient, but would be okay recommending to a person without memory problems.
