I am interested in The Woods in Riverside. It's on Palm Avenue and is a very nice independent living facility. They have 59 beds and rarely have an opening, but I just happened to stumble onto an opening there. The one apartment that came up and I looked at was a two-bedroom, one-bath. It's very bright, it faces the courtyard, and it's quiet. It's nicely appointed and has its own washing machine and dryer, which is important for me. The carpets are clean, and the place is only about three years old. I was born and raised in Riverside and was living in the area when they built it, so I was surprised by the number of units they had because it never looked like there was that much space to me. It's gated, and the only drawback for guests is that they have to park on the street, which is right across from the park. There is parking at the park as well, which is close by, so that's not too bad. It has an elevator in the main lobby and a couple of staircases that you could use if necessary. They don't have an indoor equipment room for exercising, but they do have one on the second balcony facing the park that's covered. It's a really pretty spot with a nice location. I guess if they have the 4th of July, you can watch the fireworks from that level. They have a few activities, but not as many as other independent living ones. There's also no pool, and they don't provide food. The manager assisted me during the tour, and she was very nice and very pleasant. I didn't go into anything other than the apartment that I looked at, but the lobby and the rooms that she showed me, including the club room and the laundry facilities, were very clean and looked brand new. I felt very comfortable there and felt like I was at home. Maybe that's because I have spent so much time in that area, but it's just a very convenient location. I do have a small dog, and the only drawback for me is that they have a pet fee, as well as a down payment, but most of them do anyway. Pets are welcome, so that was a good thing. Also, the only utility they pay is for water. Electricity and gas are not included, but the parking is free, so that was good.
