"Hemsley House of McCandless is a gorgeous place. It's brand new, bright, and it's really huge. They have 24 patients. It seems like they're very attentive. The dining area is very nice. They feed the patient as well."

"We toured Ashton Commons Senior Living. It was very nice. However, they didn't have independent living available, and they didn't have shuttles, which was a must. The staff who gave the tour was very nice. The common areas and apartments were some of the nicest I saw. They were much more modern than the other places I looked at."

"My mom is here. I have never been in it, but I saw my mom twice and she looked good. She was clean and well cared for. Supposedly they have activities, but I don't know what they are. My mom has dementia so everything is wonderful. She thinks the food is good in her opinion. In her state of mind, the food is good. The staff all seems to be good."

"GS In my eyes you can find a fancy high end place but it is what happens inside those walls. Inside Grace Manor I have found a staff that is caring and kind also who have become family. My mom is in dementia care and she is treated wonderfully. The staff is hard working and are consistent with their care. We couldn’t be happier and we appreciate the way they include dementia patients in activities. Thank you so much for everything!"

"Wonderful! Mom has lived at Halcyon for 8 months and has thoroughly enjoyed it even though she was reluctant to move at first. Each staff member knows more than her name. They can tell you what mom enjoys doing and talking about. Mom has made many friends. The staff and residents are warm and welcoming. The residence is small enough that it truly feels like home, not an institution. All of her needs are met while treating her with dignity and respect. Help arrives promptly when needed. The facility is spotless and the outdoor patio is second to none. A true gem!!"

"The place was fabulous. It was very warm and welcoming. The people were so wonderful, explaining everything, all the wonderful features that the facility has. We went down the hall and literally walked through the whole entire thing, seeing each of the rooms: the art room, the library, and the music room. We went upstairs to see the beauty shop and then across from that is the dining area. And then we looked at two different rooms. The models are set up gorgeous. I wish that they rented them furnished because that would have been perfect for what we need. But anyway, beautiful setup. I can't say enough good things about it. The exercise room was full of people. There was a class there. There were people in the swimming pool. I did see those two classes going on, and there's lots of walking trails there. I used to work in that area, so I know the area very well, and I actually used to go on those walking trails way before it was even built. What I like about it is that you have the month-to-month rental, because a lot of the other places charge a huge upfront amount. And if something happens the next day or days later or months later you don't get any of that money back. It just is all absorbed. So, I really like that."

"I visited the assisted living facility of Celebration Villa of Lakemont Farms in Bridgeville. The people who gave the tour were very pleasant. The rooms I saw were smaller, but the upkeep is very nice. The dining area was big. The parking area was also good. I was able to find a parking space."

"The first impression I had of Brookdale Mt. Lebanon was that it was a quietly cheerful place. The staff was cheerful and the residents were cheerful. There are nearly 200 residents there. They have little dogs on leashes. I hear there are cats. The place is furnished in a way that is comfortable and safe for seniors who have physical difficulties, as I do. As things go, the cost is moderate, considering the highs and the lows of this line of business. I only interacted with two people and they were competent. There's just a relaxed, contented quality about the whole place and everybody that I met and they invited us to come back to try their meals. We saw two studio apartments. One was much smaller than the other. I loved the small one, and that's the one we're still talking about. I did not see a list of activities, but I didn't need to. From what we walked around and saw, there is a little bit of everything."

"My mom moved in. The people are just so personable. Every single person is brought out to the community room. They are very attentive. They walk to the units and ask if the patients would like a cup of coffee. It is definitely like a family. The facility is beautiful. They have a hair salon. The activities are wonderful. Every day, I can see them out there doing word games. They have music. If there's an anxiety-ridden patient, they'll have themselves and other patients around them trying to calm the patient, holding their hand, saying the rosary, and all kinds of things to help calm the patient. It's like they're caring for their mother. The food is excellent."

"The rooms that they showed us at Graceful Care Living just had a bed in them, and that's it. We knew immediately when we got there that that wasn't what we were looking for. The staff mentioned that they have another section for people who are more independent. However, it was still somewhat the same concept. Instead of being in a room, like a small, single room, there were two beds. There was no television in those independent rooms. You have to go out of the room to watch television. It was that type of atmosphere, and my mother doesn't want that. She wants something that's like a small apartment, where she can live in that small space and be able to care for herself. I liked the atmosphere. I liked the staff. They're very nice and very accommodating as we went through the tour. My mom asked questions, although she didn't ask very many because she knew, and I could tell just from how she was withdrawn that she was like, "No, this is not going to work for me." I said it to the guy. I said, she's a lot more independent. She can get around fairly well, but this is not for her. She still needs to be in her own place where she can take care of herself. The only thing that she needed was somebody to help her, like to come in and help her to make sure that she's taking her meds. I didn't smell anything. It was very clean."

"I like The Grand Residence at Upper St Clair because they have spacious accommodations for the residents. Their apartments are bigger, so that's nice. It looks like their food is really good. The atmosphere and the way they're decorated is very fundamentally different when you think about a quintessential nursing home. The person who guided me was Christopher, and he was great. They showed me a menu for the week. It's a very diverse menu. People from outside of the facility can eat there, and they have to pay of course like a restaurant. I think they take a lot of pride in their food. All of the common areas are very nice. The apartments are a little older than the other places I looked at, but they're clean and well-kept."

"My mom moved into Whitetail Springs Assisted Living and Memory Care. We chose it because their care level was higher than the other places we went to. She's got dementia, and the thing that made our decision for us was that they checked on her more in the evening. They have motion sensors in the room. So if she moves or starts to wander, it triggers, and they scoop her up before anything happens. This place had a higher level of security at night. Her apartment was the biggest one that they had available. It's very large and it's like a nicer hotel room. It's a very nice place. She likes the food. They feed her quite well and are very attentive. They'll make something else for her if she doesn't like something. So they have some flexibility there. They keep them busy and have a lot of activities that are suited to their needs of the people who are there. The cost was very similar to what we would be paying elsewhere, maybe a bit higher, but given the extra layer of care they put on in the evening, it's worth it."

"I toured the assisted living facility of Paramount Senior Living-Bethel. It is in a nice area, and it's very clean. I would say it is very well-appointed. It makes a very good entrance when you go in. The grounds are nice, the lobby is beautiful, and the dining area is beautiful. The facility itself is nice. When you go upstairs to the assisted living, the rooms are very nice. They have very good rooms, and you don't see a big difference between the independent area and the assisted living area. They kind of blur the line pretty well. I think it's because they may use a lot of the same rooms, and they just increase the care as you need it, so they don't have a separate area. The people were nice, and the activities seemed to be very nice. They have a nice outdoor courtyard. It's a nice place, and the people are very nice and seem like they were attentive. There was no question that if we thought my mother could handle personal care, that's the place we would have sent her to. We have put money down for it, so we were disappointed that she couldn't go there. During the tour, they showed us the dining area, activities area, and I guess you could call it a living room. It's just like a lounge area where you could sit and talk, watch TV, or read a book."
