Assisted Living Communities in Wexford, PA

"The rooms that they showed us at Graceful Care Living just had a bed in them, and that's it. We knew immediately when we got there that that wasn't what we were looking for. The staff mentioned that they have another section for people who are more independent. However, it was still somewhat the same concept. Instead of being in a room, like a small, single room, there were two beds. There was no television in those independent rooms. You have to go out of the room to watch television. It was that type of atmosphere, and my mother doesn't want that. She wants something that's like a small apartment, where she can live in that small space and be able to care for herself. I liked the atmosphere. I liked the staff. They're very nice and very accommodating as we went through the tour. My mom asked questions, although she didn't ask very many because she knew, and I could tell just from how she was withdrawn that she was like, "No, this is not going to work for me." I said it to the guy. I said, she's a lot more independent. She can get around fairly well, but this is not for her. She still needs to be in her own place where she can take care of herself. The only thing that she needed was somebody to help her, like to come in and help her to make sure that she's taking her meds. I didn't smell anything. It was very clean."

"My mother-in-law moved into Harmony at Diamond Ridge. Nicole, the one who gave us the tour several times, had the biggest impact on my mother. She was very thorough, showing us the entire facility several times, answering all of the questions, providing and explaining the care my mother would be receiving, which met all of the criteria I needed for her. And so far, so good. They're wonderful, very helpful, get her down to her meals, bring her back, take her to activities, introduce her to other residents, and make her feel comfortable and at home. She loves the food. We can also eat with her if we'd like, and we have several times. The food is wonderful. They have a special every day, but there is also a completely different menu, so if it's something she doesn't like, she can order it from there. It's the cleanest facility I have been in. They have a ton of activities. They have art class, cards, and bingo. They have a coffee chat every morning, where residents can get together. They go down to the bistro and have coffee, get to know the other residents, have a snack or something, and talk, which she did, and she likes that really well. They have a lot of different activities. You get a schedule, and it's the whole day. If you want to be doing something every minute of the day, you can be. They go on outings and take them to restaurants and stores. I chose this facility because it seemed the best fit for her. The size of the facility, the staff, the director, and everyone that we have met. It just seemed like a perfect fit for her. All the facilities that I took her to, her exact words were that they felt like home to her."

"It was a beautiful facility, but the rooms are really small. The staff was wonderful. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The people seemed happy. "

"Magnolia Place of Saxonburg was affordable. It was well maintained and the staff members seemed to care about the residents. It was very clean and very spacious. They have this nice courtyard and they have live music come in. They have a dementia ward, which is perfect, and they also let the residents grill out and interact with one another. The person who gave me the tour was the owner. They were fantastic."

"We did a tour of The Seasons of Saxonburg. They did activities and exercises with them; they walked every day. They had a designated dining room, and then when they were finished with the renovations, they were going to have a screened-in porch on the nice days where they could eat. All the rooms were private. They were small, but they were all private rooms with private bathrooms. I had no concerns when I went through there, and I would be fine with my mom going in there if that's the way it worked out. I only met the director who gave me the tour. She was very nice. The staff seemed friendly and they smiled, but I didn't interact with them."

"My mother is in Allegheny Place. It's nice because it's all on one floor. There's a lot of space where they can walk around. The middle of the place is like an outdoor garden and the building goes around. They can walk around the inside of the building. They have bingo and card games. They feed them breakfast, lunch, and dinner on a regular basis, and the food is really good. Her health has improved since she has been there. They take very good care of her, and they give them things to do. Every time I call they're very responsive. They let me talk to her and answer my questions. Everybody is friendly. Her room has its own bathroom, but she has provided her own television. It's warm, abd the window that she has looks out on the garden, so it's kind of scenic, and it's a nice size. It has a sink, a refrigerator, and a microwave. It's comfortable. They have a community room that has couches, chairs, and a television set, and that's where they do a lot of their activities. They're never bored."

"I liked Brookdale Mt. Lebanon a lot. It's a little bit far from my house, so that's the only issue really -- and only if I wanted to stop every day -- but I guess you're not allowed to visit every day right now. It was a fabulous place. I took my brother, who is in his fifties, and he wanted to move there; he loved it. I can't say anything bad about it except COVID, and that's not anybody's fault. It was spotless. It was perfect. It had a lot of grounds they could walk on, and it's really lovely and safe. There are no main roads, and it's probably quiet. It's just beautiful. I could live there. I liked it a lot."

"My mom is at Juniper Village. The place is very nice. It is very clean. They do have a lot of variety of activities. She just moved in a week ago. Their rooms/apartments are very nice. My mother is in a grand suite. It is very nice. It is spacious. She has a lot of windows. It is very bright and cheery. The food is all made in-house. It is not brought in. It is very good. You can have a variety of things. They do have a main course everyday, but you can order a sandwich or something like that everyday. Regarding security and safety, they do lock the doors every night at 8:00, and there is somebody at the reception desk. They're pretty good about getting people to sign in and out. Someone was asking about a resident, and they wouldn't give them any information. They do adhere to privacy and things like that. "

"My father recently moved in to Franciscan Manor and my family and I couldn't be more happy!! Over the past few months my father has been in and out of the hospital and I had to make that dreaded decision to move him to assisted care. When I first toured the Manor I felt welcomed and important. The residents that I meant seemed happy, cared for and involved in the community. The staff that I meant were friendly and professional. At the end of my visit, I knew that eventually my dad would be happy there also. Now when I visit my dad, the staff are always friendly and give me updates on my dad's day. I appreciate that so much! He is getting stronger and has not had a visit to the hospital since moving in. I can't be there everyday, but I have the peace of mind knowing that there are professionals that care about my dad and are taking care of him. He was recently introduced to a gentleman that was also in the war and I often find them sitting on that beautiful front porch in the evening swapping war stories! Thank you Franciscan Manor for giving my dad the quality of life that he truly deserves!! "

"It is just a great place. It's small, but very clean. The people are very caring, loving, and compassionate; couldn't be nicer. Her room has a bed and a chair. They have two activity coordinators. They showed movies to the residents, and they have arts and crafts. Sunday was my mother's 101st birthday, and we had a party for her. I'm very lucky I found them, and they take excellent care of her. It's better for her there than here at home."

"The woman who runs Oakleaf is wonderful. She actually wrote an article and gives it to anybody who even looks to give you things to look for when you are looking for place. The one thing I didn’t like was that the rooms were not big. It was a very nice place with really nice people working there. This was one place that, even with a private room, had shared bathrooms, which I wasn’t really happy about. As far as the whole thing, I thought it was very nice and affordable, and the staff and the woman who runs it were excellent. She couldn’t have taken more time with us in explaining things and said, “OK, we know you’re going to look for other places and you need to ask about extra charges,” and things we needed to ask any place else and ratio of staff to people there; she was great. One thing I really liked was she told me that if my mom does have dementia and it were to get bad, they had that level of care and even if the money runs out, they work things and will make it work for her to be able to stay, which I thought was very nice. "

"My father moved into Whitetail Springs Assisted Living and Memory Care. The care seems a little bit more hands-on. It's all on one floor. They have a nice outdoor place to walk. I think they put concerts on there when it warms up. His room is spacious, he has his own bedroom, and bathroom with shower, and it seems adequate for his needs. They try to keep the people active, they have an activities director, and they try to keep them stimulated. They play bingo."

"I have my mom in Locust Grove, and I’m very happy with it. The thing that impressed me the most when I went there is how clean it was. That may sound like a small thing, but it’s not. It was clean. The woman who showed me around knew the name of everybody in that facility. She knew about their family, and she knew of everyone’s situation. It was terrific. I like the way they try to make everybody feel as if it’s their home. They don’t come down at the exact meal time. Let’s say they’ll come down at 10 and breakfast is a little over, they’ll still get them a little something. My mom is not happy because I moved her from Tucson and she loves there as it is warm, but here she sits in the lobby and talks to everyone. She has made a friend with a woman named Hazel, and she tells me about all of these other people. She seems to be adjusting. They have a memory care unit so she doesn’t have to change buildings. "

"Halcyon of Bridgeville seemed to care about their residents. My husband was very happy when he was there. They had him playing bingo, which was more than at the prior facility, and he ate well. The facility was clean. The residents seemed very happy. I was very impressed. It's just unfortunate that he fell. It's not their fault though. They just turned their back on him for an instant, and he fell. That had happened at home, so I knew that could happen there. I did not try their food, but I saw their food, and it was very good. The staff was helpful. My husband had Lewy body dementia and it requires different approaches than other dementia issues and were very knowledgeable about it, which is one of the reasons I chose them. They were very interactive with the residents and they didn't allow them to just sit there and be vegetables. They interacted with them and they had them doing the things they could do."
