"The community of Juniper Village at South Hills is nice. It's very clean and the people are friendly. They all seem to be good. Originally, my mother was in a single room, and when I moved her upstairs to memory care, she now shared a room with another lady. She has a twin bed, a dresser, and a closet. So as the other lady. It's very clean. They do a good job. They come in every day and they clean. They have a dining area in their memory area and if they need help as far as cutting their food or even feeding themselves, there's an attendant on hand to help deal with that. I was there yesterday, and they had a drummer come in and do drumming and singing. A friend of mine was there every other day and she said that my mother went to some activity that they had, but she just stayed in a room until my mother came back. I also know they have various activities, and they have a movie night for them at the place. They're very patient with the people. For the various holidays, they decorate the facility and they have activities that are related to some of the holidays. I know they had just had an activity for Mardi Gras. Easter is coming up so they have some decorations up for Saint Patrick's Day. The food looks good. My mother said it doesn't have enough salt on it, but it looks good."

"I toured The Haven at North Hills. The living spaces are sizable. They're enough for one person, for sure. It's limited, I think, to 12 patients, which I like. It's small, and they will feed the patients. It's very clean, that's what I like about it. From observing them, the staff members were attentive to the people and to their needs. There is a sitting area with a TV and sofas, chairs, and one big dining area, which is nice."

"My mother-in-law moved into Harmony at Diamond Ridge. Nicole, the one who gave us the tour several times, had the biggest impact on my mother. She was very thorough, showing us the entire facility several times, answering all of the questions, providing and explaining the care my mother would be receiving, which met all of the criteria I needed for her. And so far, so good. They're wonderful, very helpful, get her down to her meals, bring her back, take her to activities, introduce her to other residents, and make her feel comfortable and at home. She loves the food. We can also eat with her if we'd like, and we have several times. The food is wonderful. They have a special every day, but there is also a completely different menu, so if it's something she doesn't like, she can order it from there. It's the cleanest facility I have been in. They have a ton of activities. They have art class, cards, and bingo. They have a coffee chat every morning, where residents can get together. They go down to the bistro and have coffee, get to know the other residents, have a snack or something, and talk, which she did, and she likes that really well. They have a lot of different activities. You get a schedule, and it's the whole day. If you want to be doing something every minute of the day, you can be. They go on outings and take them to restaurants and stores. I chose this facility because it seemed the best fit for her. The size of the facility, the staff, the director, and everyone that we have met. It just seemed like a perfect fit for her. All the facilities that I took her to, her exact words were that they felt like home to her."

"I went to see Brookdale Mt. Lebanon in Pittsburgh's assisted living. It was a beautiful facility with very nice people. I would say that the dining area and lobby area were very good. It's probably a little fancier than the other facility I saw, in that respect. They have a swimming pool, which the others do not have. They also have a lot of activities. We went in to talk to the activities lady, and they had an activities board that would wear me out. They said they get the residents out of there and that they have a lot of things to do, and it was nice, but the thing is that a lot of the activities are for people who can do things. They're not for people in assisted living. I think I told somebody that if I were going to live independently, I'd live at Brookdale, but if I needed assisted living, I'd go to another place. That's kind of how I summed it up because this place has a lot more to do, and it's geared to independent people. The reason I say that is that when you go to the assisted living part, you see a big difference. I don't feel like I'm in the same building anymore. The assisted living is on a different floor than the independent living section. The rooms are kind of more sterile and more nursing home-looking. It had stark walls, tiled floors, and was kind of cold-looking. Whereas the independent area is warm, and it looks like a hotel. The assisted living area looks more like a motel. It's not dirty, it's clean, but more hospital-like and more institutional. Other than that, the people were very nice and very friendly. They have a lot of stuff to do. One thing they do that nobody else does is they said in most places, you can have two showers a week. But here, if you want to pay more, they said they will be showering my mother more, so it seemed like they are a little more flexible than a lot of other places."

"The rooms that they showed us at Graceful Care Living just had a bed in them, and that's it. We knew immediately when we got there that that wasn't what we were looking for. The staff mentioned that they have another section for people who are more independent. However, it was still somewhat the same concept. Instead of being in a room, like a small, single room, there were two beds. There was no television in those independent rooms. You have to go out of the room to watch television. It was that type of atmosphere, and my mother doesn't want that. She wants something that's like a small apartment, where she can live in that small space and be able to care for herself. I liked the atmosphere. I liked the staff. They're very nice and very accommodating as we went through the tour. My mom asked questions, although she didn't ask very many because she knew, and I could tell just from how she was withdrawn that she was like, "No, this is not going to work for me." I said it to the guy. I said, she's a lot more independent. She can get around fairly well, but this is not for her. She still needs to be in her own place where she can take care of herself. The only thing that she needed was somebody to help her, like to come in and help her to make sure that she's taking her meds. I didn't smell anything. It was very clean."

"I didn't like the pod room system at Orion Personal Care Residence, but the staff members were really lovely people. We had a good time talking to them. It looked clean enough. The furniture was dingy. They had a lot of nice outdoor areas, but they also had a lot of ramps. I just didn't see my mother-in-law wanting to go up and down ramps too much."

"Whitetail Springs Assisted Living and Memory Care is a beautiful place. The people are friendly. It's a very nice facility. The staff showed me a room that my parents would share and then talked about different ways they could care for them. It's clean and pretty. It seems like there is a lot to do. Everyone seemed happy. The staff during the tour was very nice, friendly, and helpful. Everything looked nice, clean, and new. The room was clean, new, updated, and had adequate space."

"I toured Ashton Commons Senior Living. I thought it was beautiful. I had no complaints at all. We would have chosen that, it's just too expensive and they were not willing to compromise on the price. They gave promotional prices for May but they would not extend those promotional prices to August. The staff was friendly. The room was very nice, clean, and modern. The atmosphere is bright and cheery. The dining area is open when you first walk in, it's nice."

"My father has moved into Grace Manor at North Park. He's in the highest level of care. They have two levels there and he's in the higher one. It's been wonderful. The people are very kind and extremely helpful. They are very open to what my concerns are and what my preferences are for my dad. They have gone above and beyond to make sure that his transition has been as smooth as possible. He just moved rooms, so I haven't seen his new room. His original room was a shared space, and it was large. He had a roommate, but they each have their own walk-in closet, a shared bathroom, their own armchair, bedside table, drawers, and twin bed. I have not tried the food, but I have been there during mealtime and it smelled extremely good. The dining area was nice. They have smaller community tables for the residents to sit at and there is always the option for family members to enjoy the meals together. They have a drink station and a cereal station set out at all times, so you can also get snacks either for yourself or for your family members, which is nice, too. We chose it because the director who gave us the tour seemed to be very down-to-earth and personable as well as cost. It was one of the more affordable places. The staff was very attentive and friendly. He was living in another facility and several of the staff members were also hired at Grace Manor. That was another reason for us because it wasn't a huge transition since there would be some familiar faces there for Dad also. It's an older facility, but they were kind of constantly cleaning while I was there and talking about different upgrades they were doing with replacing flooring, etc. I was happy with that. They're very accommodating. He's on a pureed diet, and they had no problem doing that for him."

"I visited Paramount Senior Living and it was a very nice facility. However, it was also very expensive. We just saw one person who answered the questions. It was a bigger facility and there were different kinds of rooms. There was a multitude of sections and types of living. I would recommend this facility if you could afford it. "

"Everyone at Overlook Green is very friendly and warm. My mother-in-law is in there and the place is very nice. It's clean, bright, and cheerful. They almost have all of the things you want for your loved one to have. Her room is very nice and clean. For the most part, she doesn’t complain about the food. It's taking her a while to get used to the situation and I would say we are not there yet. They have bingo and I think they also do some Wii games. I also think they do some craft and they have ice cream nights. They really try to keep the residents very busy. "

"The Celebration Villa of Lakemont Farms is perfect except that they don't take Medicaid when your money runs out. It's a terrific place. I would recommend that to anyone. It was clean, well staffed, and the residents seemed to be happy there. They showed us both assisted living and memory care. I like the cleanliness of the place, the number of staff they had for residents, and the facilities were great. They had people helping people all the time we were there. They seemed to know everybody. The place had no smell about it; it was very clean. The staff was very informative and friendly. She was very good. They had a courtyard and people were sitting around there."

"We wanted my great grandmother to be as comfortable as possible, and it was not very easy to find at first. Then we found Grand Residence in Upper St. Clair near Pittsburgh, PA. It was by far one of the nicest places we visited. The staff was friendly, but not too overbearing. My great grandmother did not want to feel like a burden, and they made her feel comfortable. Despite the nice staff, the cleanliness, the nice decor my grandmother really enjoyed making friends and going places. The only 'con' we could possibly find with this place was the reason my great grandmother had to leave, it was the expense. I highly recommend this assistant living facility, but only if finances are not much of an issue. "

"My father is at The Residence at Whitehall. We had some issues coming in, but everything seems to be working out now. The layout is excellent. They need to improve on their communication. They just hired all new staff, but when we first came in, it was a little confusing. Now that they have all new staff, things seem to be moving smooth. They are short staffed. The food is really good. It's an excellent facility. The guys can shoot pool, they have a men's club, which is great for my dad, and they have a firepit where people can sit outside. They have so many things, and they seem to be pretty specific. The activities director seems to be doing what the residents want, which is good. We chose this place because of the appearance. It's updated, clean, and neat, and also my dad knew someone who lived there."

"The management of Paramount Senior Living seems to be responsive and looks after the facility pretty well. The building is kind of small, but it is well maintained. There are not enough parking spaces for visitors, but that is the only complaint I have about the physical facility itself. They have a large dining area, they offer three meals a day, and the meals are good, because I was there for a week or so, and I thought the meals were very good. Right across the street from this facility is a small shopping center that has a doctor's office, a small supermarket, and a bakery shop too. My mother has had no really negative comments about it, except that she wishes she could get around more, but she is happy that the nursing staff is responsive. She wears a thing around her neck, she pushes the button, and they come. I would recommend this place. "

"My mom moved in. So far, so good. We had a couple of glitches, but other than that, it was fine. It's hard during the quarantine because she can't meet anybody, but the staff has been great. They've been wonderful helping around. She loves the food, and it's much more than what she normally eats. She's not used to eating three or four meals a day, so she picks at what she can, but she says it's very good. It's a beautiful place, clean, and well kept. She got a studio, which is quite large, it has a big window, a small refrigerator, and a microwave. There's plenty of room, a nice closet, and a big bathroom. It's bigger than I thought it was going to be, and she has everything she needs."
