Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at The Residence at Whitehall. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?

Our age demographic is 55 years old plus. Our average age is 75 to 85 years old although we have residents in their 90s. Our seniors are vibrant and active. Some of our residents have walkers or other assistance devices. Some of the activities our residents enjoy are bingo, baking, arts and crafts, attending outside events and cultural activities, Silver Sneakers, luaus and Jazz concerts.

What programs or activities does The Residence at Whitehall offer to enrich residents' well-being?

The Life Enrichment Program has been developed by Sweetbay Senior Living and is carefully overseen by our Enrichment Coordinator whose role is to energize and inspire involvement. The Program is designed to encompass five dimensions of wellness; emotional, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual. Each community offers at least one event or activity daily that corresponds to one of the five dimensions

The Residence at Whitehall is conveniently located just minutes south of downtown Pittsburgh, Pa., and close to a wide variety of shopping, dining and entertainment. It also also adjacent to the Whitehall Public Library.

The Residence at Whitehall has a car as well as a van with a lift to assist those residents who may need assistance getting in and out of a vehicle.

What makes the chef or dining program at The Residence at Whitehall exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?

Love great food? You're in luck. One of the signature programs at Whitehall is our Signature Dining Program with 3 chef-prepared meals daily. We also have our Sweetbay Cafe and Bistro with Grab and Go Services as well as our All-Day Cafe which provides snacks, fruit, coffee, tea, and sweets 24/7. Additionally our Signature Dining Program includes the traditional theme dinners that revolve around holidays but we also turn monthly dining experiences into something fun, exciting and creative. The themes my vary from community to community but some of our dinner party themes include Pittsburgh Night, Dinner and a Movie, Beach Blanket Bingo and A Night in Italy. Our Saturday Night Candlelight Dinners will make residents feel like they had a special night out without leaving home.

The overall population are active, vibrant seniors who strive to enrich their socialization, intellectual growth and physical health. Our residents also enhance their spirituality with a wide range of exciting, fulfilling and purposeful experiences. They attend concerts, attend wine tastings, or practice yoga. Bingo is a favorite as well as Wii bowling. Our passion is to enable our residents to experience an active and vibrant lifestyle.

What are some recent off-site events that the community activity director at The Residence at Whitehall has organized?

Our Enrichment Coordinator is always taking our residents someplace new and exciting. Highlights include Trax Farm, the Meadows Casino, Heinz History Center, the Gateway Clipper, South Hills Village Mall, Olive Garden, Armstrong's, and a Pirate's Game. We also offer weekly trips to places like Giant Eagle, Dollar Store, Walmart, Target, and more.

What transportation services does The Residence at Whitehall offer to independent living residents?

Transportation service is complimentary within a 5 mile radius of our community. Our drivers are more than happy to transport you to appointments, shopping, outings and more in our Ford Flex. Transportation can be booked with the Concierge. Our Enrichment Coordinator also plans frequent monthly outings to local restaurants, shows, the casino, shopping, and more. Residents can reserve a seat in our van for these trips. Our van is capable of transporting a larger group of residents.

What makes the chef or dining program at The Residence at Whitehall exceptional? What kind of menu can independent living residents expect?

At The Residence at Whitehall, we believe that dining is one of the most important aspects of the day. For this reason, we offer a variety of eating options, including three chef-prepared meals served daily in the Dining Room, grab and go options from the Cafe and Bistro, as well as a 24-hour refreshment and snack area. Most residents prefer to eat three meals a day in the Dining Room, but it is nice to know other options are available should you want to switch things up. Our Executive Chef prepares delicious meals using locally sourced ingredients. Additionally, we are more than happy to accommodate any dietary needs such as low-sodium, gluten-free, vegetarian... All dining options, including 3 chef-prepared meals daily, are included in your monthly rent.

What common areas are available for independent living residents?

We encourage all residents to view common areas as an extension of their home. With the exception of the fourth floor of the building, which houses our Personal Care residents, Independent Living residents are free to enjoy common areas throughout the building as they please. It is not uncommon to find residents baking the Creative Arts Studio, playing pool in the Billiards Room, having coffee with a neighbor in the Cafe and Bistro, watching a flick on the big screen in the Movie Theater, or getting some exercise while strolling the beautifully manicured grounds.

What safety features or security measures does The Residence at Whitehall offer to independent living residents?

All residents in our building can enjoy peace-of-mind knowing that we have taken taken an abundance of precautions to ensure safety and well-being at all times. Each resident is given an emergency pendant upon moving into the community, and each apartment is equipped with an emergency call system. Additionally, our building has a 24-hour security system as well as round-the-clock staffing. Any guest that walks through our doors must sign in at the Concierge Desk before they may enter the community. During business hours, the Concierge Desk will remain staffed.

If The Residence at Whitehall accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?

There are outside manicured grounds that animals can be walked. Additionally, the Whitehall Public Library is steps away from our community.

Does The Residence at Whitehall work with an agency or registry to provide nursing and medical assistance as needed?

We work in conjunction with home health agencies, rehabilitation agencies as well as local pharmacies.
