"I liked the location of The Red Door Assisted Living. It was very close to my house. The meals are included and my father would have had his own room. They provide activities and transportation. The staff was very nice and very thorough. It's a tough decision to make and the lady there helped us through that process pretty nicely, even though we didn't end up going there. The community was a little outdated. It's a little small, but that didn't bother me (I think it probably would bother some people). I thought a smaller place was better. The other good thing about their place is they didn't have any stairs. It was all on one level. So, it would have been easy for my father to get around."

"Heartlands at Ellicott City is a continuing care community with cottages and different sized apartments. We went to a 1-bedroom with a den, it was nice, and had a little kitchen, dining area, and a living room. There was no dishwasher, but there was a stove, sinkm and big bathrooms. Their amenities include a gym, several sun porches, a library, two big rooms with fireplaces, entertainment rooms where you can have parties, a swimming pool, and a beauty salon. They have a big dining area, and if you just want to have something like a hamburger, they also have a bistro. The woman who helped me was very nice and informative; she was able to answer all my questions."

"I like the way Lighthouse Senior Living Ellicott City was laid out, and I liked the number of activities and things like that. The man that gave me the tour was the sales director. He was very talkative. The facility was very well maintained. He showed me several different types of rooms. The atmosphere was very friendly. The staff introduced me to several of the patients, and they were all very friendly. The room was well laid out. The only thing was, I felt that the rooms were small, and even the cheapest room was way more than I could afford."

"The Terraces at Westminster appear to be wonderful. They were quick to respond and they were quick to set up an appointment. They came in on the weekend to show us the room. So, the facility itself is beautiful, clean, and luxurious. Everyone we met has been super kind and willing to work with us. It's clean and it's just a great location."

"I visited and toured the memory care. I met the person who gave the tour, sat down at the table, and discussed my concerns. I discussed what my mother's situation is, what brought us to this point, why I'm deciding on this now, and when I'm hoping to pull the trigger on moving her. We did a tour of the rooms, and it was pretty solid. They showed the assisted living first, and then the managed memory care, which was on the third floor. The staff seemed to have a good relationship with the people there. The place seemed well laid out, secure, and generally thoughtful. There wasn't anything that jumped out and said red flag, but I wasn't a hundred percent comfortable with the rooms, and I guess it's mostly because of the bathrooms. Instead of having a sink with doors on it or sinks with nothing on it and just a pedestal sink or something, they weirdly had what felt like cheap particle wood board around the sinks, for some reason. It was a little odd. I wasn't crazy about the showers, either. They seem to have a little bit more of a step-in. It's only probably two inches high, but it's for managed memory care, and my mom recently had a fall and broke her hip, which is why we're here, so I'm a little more sensitive to it. That's something that they could potentially stumble on. Overall, that's the only thing about the facility that I wasn't crazy about. The staff seemed great, particularly the woman who was giving me the tour. She was extremely knowledgeable about the programs. There was a person who had a sort of delirious episode while we were there, and she was extremely good with her. You can tell that she knows who the people are. It's not as big as some of the other places, but it's also not small, and she still seems to have a good relationship with them."

"My mother was a resident of another facility. We are wondering why we didn't move her here first! We love Lindsay and Mary...the food has been wonderful and so has the staff. So much better than where she was before. We love it here. "

"They were very kind to invite me to lunch, and I had a nice lunch in a nice atmosphere. Then, I was shown one of the dwelling places; it was a small apartment, but it was very nice, very clean, very comfortable-looking, and the person who escorted me there was very kind and very helpful in explaining what I might be looking forward to. It was a short visit, and I couldn't say anymore than this: from the outside looking in, it looked like it was a safe and homey place in a pleasurable atmosphere. I was told that they do have activities for the residents and taking them out -- taking them to the doctor and taking them on trips. The visit was so short, and I really don't have any real ideas except that it was safe, it was bright, it was clean, and it was pleasant. "

"We viewed Bryant Woods Manor assisted living home for our mother and we were quite impressed by the spaciousness and cleanliness. My mother is starting dementia and we are attempting to place in a assisted living home that is convenient for us and a home that can handle her concerns. This is not an easy task. Of all the homes we have seen in Howard County we feel most comfortable with Bryant Woods Manor. Their Memory Loss Program is the over-site that mother needs for her dementia."

"Sunrise of Pikesville provides very good service. The quality of the rooms was better, cheaper and higher quality than the other assisted living places we visited. The staff was very good, very knowledgeable, very helpful, and easy to approach. It was a very good experience. The dining area was very nice and easy to access and had clean tables. They had a lot of clubs like a walking club, movies, discussion groups, shopping, and outing. The facility was very nice. They would provide some limited nursing skills like certain lifts when somebody has trouble getting out of bed."

"Shangrila Senior Living was a very well-maintained, nice, and clean facility. I didn't have any problem with it physically, but my friend is in better mental condition than the majority of the people I saw there. The person who assisted me was nice and explained things well. Some residents were playing bingo at the time I was there. The menu looked satisfactory and the dining area was well appointed."

"I must say Waterfalls is a wonderful memory care facility. The management and staff go above and beyond to make your loved one feel as comfortable as possible. The rooms are always kept nice, the residents are clean, the food is delicious and the facility is beautiful inside and out!"

"My sister moved into Aventura at the Heights. It's an old house that has been refurbished, there's a lovely lobby/sitting area that leads into the dining room. She's fortunate because her room is right across from there on the first floor, so she doesn't have very far to go. I heard that there are two other floors, but I've never seen them. There is an elevator, but I don't know who's up on the second or third floor, but she's on the first floor. In the short time, she's been there, everybody has been very lovely, kind and attentive. I'd say, for the most part, some more than others, of course, but I feel like she's well cared for. They can improve in their response time though. She has her own kind of studio apartment, but it's a small studio. It has a full bathroom in there and then a little kitchenette. It has a refrigerator and some cupboard space. We put a microwave in there. There's like some sort of an exercise group in the morning and then they have trivia. They have movie nights. In the room where they eat, which I guess is the biggest room there, they have activities in there. I know they had some sort of speaker and like some sort of video, they were showing to their residents. She hasn't started yet, but she'll be getting physical therapy soon. The dining room is spacious, it looks like tables of four, although some people had put them together so they could be more sociable. It's very, very clean, and it smells clean, there is no strange odor. We were surprised because we had looked at four other places, and I believe the other four places were a little bit more expensive. This seemed to be somewhat more reasonable. It's worth the money. She seems to be doing well and she appears to be very happy there."
