"My husband and I stayed in Lorien Encore for respite. What I liked best was that the staff was wonderful there. I was able to do my medications, but my husband wasn't familiar with his medication, so they took over doing that. At first, it was rough. It was confusing, but they got it all straightened out, and it was fine for the rest of the weeks we were there. We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and it was very innovative of the things that they served, but the problem was that by the time it came out of the kitchen, it was cold. They were willing to heat it, but then it would just have taken longer. The cleanliness was outstanding. They had people come in for yoga, different exercises, bingo, and craft activities throughout the day. They had a movie theater where they had documentaries you could go to any time during the day and watch a movie. They had a little cafe there. If you had guests come, they could go there, and you could have lunch with them in the cafe. We did get what we paid for, but it's so expensive. The place we were in had a living area and then a bedroom, and we had plenty of room, a nice big closet, a refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink in every room."

"I toured Nova Springs. The rooms were nice and big. It was all neat, orderly, and clean. The staff who toured me was a lady that was the manager also. The building was very clean. It had a very welcoming atmosphere. It was like walking into a motel or hotel where somebody was greeting you. The dining area was spacious. It had tables and tablecloths on them. It had decorations making it look homey. I only saw one room and the staff said they were all practically alike. They were very spacious. They had a TV, a bathroom, and a nice-sized bathroom. You didn't have to come out of the tub or the shower and hit the commode. There's plenty of room in the bathroom."

"This facility is a very caring facility. Soma, who is the nurse, cook, etc who takes care of my Dad, does an excellent job and Tim, the owner/director and Charilyn makes sure all residents stay healthy which I have been so thankful for."

"We went to the Lorien Mt. Airy. We love that the rooms were large, and the PT or rehab room was especially large. The staff was very informative and friendly. We tried the food but we weren't that impressed. They have amenities like a salon, a courtyard, and seating areas. In terms of maintenance, it looked like things were in their place, and everything was clean. It's near a restaurant and it's about 20 minutes from a hospital."

"I liked the location of The Red Door Assisted Living. It was very close to my house. The meals are included and my father would have had his own room. They provide activities and transportation. The staff was very nice and very thorough. It's a tough decision to make and the lady there helped us through that process pretty nicely, even though we didn't end up going there. The community was a little outdated. It's a little small, but that didn't bother me (I think it probably would bother some people). I thought a smaller place was better. The other good thing about their place is they didn't have any stairs. It was all on one level. So, it would have been easy for my father to get around."

"From the moment we walked through the doors, we knew we had found something special. The memory care at Lighthouse has exceeded our expectations in every possible way. The environment is warm, inviting, and doesn’t feel clinical—it feels like home. The staff is the true heart of this place. They are not only highly trained and professional, but incredibly compassionate, patient, and attentive. You can tell they genuinely care about each resident, treating them with dignity and respect. They’ve taken the time to really get to know our mom, which has made a huge difference in her transition from the home she lived in for over 40 years. We’ve noticed a real improvement in mood and social interaction since moving in. She really loves the creative, engaging activities and especially the outings. There always seems to be something going on. We also love the frequent family updates and open communication. We never feel out of the loop and always feel welcome to visit and participate. The entire team—from the caregivers and nurses to the dining and housekeeping staff—works together seamlessly. Choosing a new permanent home for a parent is one of the hardest decisions a family can face, but we are so grateful we found Lighthouse. It has brought us peace of mind and, most importantly, brought joy and stability back into our mom’s life. We highly recommend it to anyone navigating this journey."

"The Terraces at Westminster appear to be wonderful. They were quick to respond and they were quick to set up an appointment. They came in on the weekend to show us the room. So, the facility itself is beautiful, clean, and luxurious. Everyone we met has been super kind and willing to work with us. It's clean and it's just a great location."

"My brother is at Woodholme Gardens. The staff were very friendly, very helpful, and delightful when I went in to take a walk-through. They're taking very good care of my brother and he is happy there. There are different levels of care. It's a very nice place. It's reasonable. They do run specials, so you just have to work with the director because there are specials that she can sometimes give to the families. My brother has a room, and he has his meals with everyone else. They come in and clean the room once a week, they do his laundry, and they help him with showers. So far, I'm very happy with the facility. He has only been there 10 days, but I haven't had any issues. When he has asked for something as far as maintenance or help with something, everyone has been right there to help him. The staff have been amazing. My brother said the food is very good. It smells good. I have seen nothing dirty. No dirty clothes lying around. Everything is always wiped down clean. With regards to activities, I've witnessed karaoke, and women and men getting pedicures. They have a barber shop there. My brother played bingo. They sit in their little chairs and do their little weights and stuff like that. And I saw arts and crafts going on one day. Everybody seems to interact. Even when they do the karaoke, the nurses and all the caregivers are all in the room sometimes with them singing and joking. It's got a very good atmosphere there. "

"Springhouse of Pikesville is very nice. The staff is good. My sister likes the food. So far everything is fine. The building itself is very nice. Her floor is very sunny. They have several different places where you can hang out without being in your room. They have a place where you can get your hair done, a game room, two cafes, and a computer area. They have activities that she can participate in during the day if she would like to. I think it's a good value for money. It's not as expensive as some of the other ones. But I think it's the same level of care. They have nurses here 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They have either a physician or physician assistant every day. They have physical therapy and occupational therapy. They also have outdoor areas when it gets warmer."

"Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing was very airy. The atmosphere was very good. I liked the community. It seemed like a very pleasant place. I could see my wife maybe selecting that place also. The staff was helpful, friendly, outgoing, and answered my questions. The common areas were very pleasant. They were very open and airy. The rooms were adequate. I saw one that had a space that I could work with. I liked them."

"just want to say that I could not be more happy with the care and hospitality that my Mom is receiving at Bryant Woods Manor. It is a tremendous relief for me to know that she is receiving this incredible level of professional and personal care, which is around the clock I might add. My Mom was admitted to the facility at the start of the year with some serious concerns - she was unable to speak and had some severe mental and physical issues because of an extended hospital stay where she was not allowed to get out of bed. The competent and selfless team at Bryant Woods Manor provided my Mom with diligent and skillful care, comfort, and supervision immediately upon her arrival. Her health improved and she was able to get her voice back, an amazing turnaround given her initial state. I'm SO pleased with how she’s doing now! I might also add that Bryant Woods Manor as a residence is extremely pleasant and inviting, and the amenities for my Mom (and all of the residents, for that matter) are exceptional. This is NOT a hospital or a stark facility, this is a welcoming home for my Mom - clean and tidy and tastefully decorated (it even has hardwood floors!) - in a safe, established and beautiful neighborhood in Columbia. I'm so grateful that she is here, thank you for your service!"

"We went and looked at Sunrise of Pikesville. The facility was nice, clean, and bright. It looked like the residents were enjoying themselves when we visited. The staff was very attentive. If someone had a call for assistance, they responded quickly, which was important to us. They had a nice menu. They had lots of choices for residents. The activities were also very nice. The rooms were nice. There were a lot of different options for size and different price points, which we liked. We especially liked the semi-private room option, which was more affordable for our family member. Every staff member we ran into was very friendly. They seemed to be interacting with residents in a way that they knew the residents well. Everybody was polite and friendly."

"I went to Shangrila Senior Living. They provide three meals a day. They have activities and a nice eating area. You have a choice of eating in your room or eating in the eating area. They have a recreational room that allows you to socialize and be with people. They have a beauty salon. And, a therapist comes in once a week. The staff was very informative. He took me to meet some of the people who reside there. I thought it was nice. The people there seemed comfortable and happy."

"I'm on a waiting list for the Waterfalls of Catonsville. They're redoing a wing of the building. They were very welcoming and I like that it's more of a home feel of an environment. That's what a place where my mom used to live was like. It's a smaller facility and they only have a limited number of residents, so they can get more care. There were always people with the residents. Even if they were in their bedroom or if they were in the common areas, there was always someone with them. The facility was nice and clean and all the people were clean. The staff was very nice and very welcoming. The room was more like a small bedroom with a bed and a dresser. The room wasn't as large, but the common spaces were large. They were doing art when I was there. They had a courtyard and they do activities in the dining room when it's not dining time. It's more like a multipurpose room. It used to be an old mansion that they've turned into housing. There are no long walks. They back up to parks, so they can walk in the park. They back up to a wooded area. They had their own chef."

"This is a disorganized facility and my friend who lives there is very unhappy. On person elevator that takes forever to come. There is a lack of toilet per in bathrooms. He has had many items stolen. The bathroom he uses across from his room was out of service for 2 weeks. He was told to use a bathroom on a different floor. They are always out of certain food items such as coffee and condiments that they haven't thought to include such as Parmesan cheese for spaghetti. He also cannot regulate the temperature in his room."

"As a resident here for the last 4 months ,I have experienced nothing but kindness from the staff and residence here. I receive a written schedule every morning during breakfast with the daily activities that are planned for the day (which include but aren't limited to bingo arts and crafts and even movies that we all watch together). The meal menu is provided and prepared by an actual chef that keeps the meals flavorful and entertaining (there also substitutions made for dietary needs or if you just don't like what's on the menu that night). The nursing staff are knowledgeable and well-versed on conditions that I may need or require due to my medical needs and circumstances. The management staff are very quick to respond to any issues that may arise throughout the day and answer any questions that may come up."

"My husband will be moving into Lorien Harmony Hall. Everything was great. The salesperson was great. I was very surprised that they have three levels. One level is for people who need just a small amount of assistance. The second level needs a little more assistance, and the third is for those who might need a lot of nursing care. My husband isn't able to get out of bed because he can't walk. He had a hematoma on all of the nerves that affect his legs, so he wasn't able to move his legs at all. But all of the nursing care that he had at the nursing home, everything that he gets there, he will get at Lorien Harmony Hall. Their third floor has everything basically that a nursing home would have, but it is assisted living. The grounds are manicured and well taken care of. The staff who gave the tour was very informative and answered all my questions without a problem. She showed me different types of settings. They had three different types of rooms, and we both agreed that my husband just needed a studio. He didn't need anything larger than a studio. They have activities during the day. There are people coming in, there's singing and games, and they even have a movie theater in there where they show a movie once a week. Since my husband can't go and do it by himself, they would let him know that there's a movie going, and they'll take him right down to the movie theater."

"My biggest fear of moving my mother into an assisted living home was that people would not take care of her the way I would. I was scared that the same level of attention and compassion me or my wife would give to my mom, I would not find any place else. All the things I was afraid of, I’m not afraid of anymore. Moving my mother into Kemia’s home has lessened a form of grief I’ve been experiencing. The care from Kemia and her staff is amazing. They feel like family. This is the happiest my mom has been in a long time. I go to bed with less worry. "
