The place is near some shopping centers, and I think a restaurant is around there, too."

"My aunt's only been in Sunrise for maybe one month. Everything looks good. So far so good, and they're very attentive. The rooms are fine. Nothing outstanding. They're adequate. They do have a gym. There's nobody in there to supervise, so I feel like that's a little bit dangerous for her. "

"I was in Hillside Senior Living. It was OK. I just didn't like the idea of having to go to the laundry room. In the winter, you had a hard time, all the ice and snow, and that's the only thing that I didn't like. But everything was right there. You had the bathroom right there, the bedroom, and there's a living room and the kitchen. It wasn't the place, it was just me. There was always somebody there to help you. I liked the staff. They had someone that delivered lunches for a while, but then they stopped. It was a nice, clean place. They kept it clean. They have a lot of activities. It was just closed at that time when I was there. They had a room for exercise, and they had a laundry facility, and they had a bar where they could watch TV, listen to music, and then they had a computer. They had a real big, huge courtyard. You can go barbecue, you can relax, it's just huge, with benches."

"Wilshire Estates Gracious Retirement Living is a beautiful facility. It has nice apartments, but New Hampshire Avenue is a very busy avenue. I just don't think it would be the best place for me because there aren't a lot of places to walk to. I'd like to find a place where I don't have to drive to do everything. It's four stars only because of the location, but the facility, the dining room, the apartments, everything else was very, very nice. I liked it a lot. The apartments were a nice size. The living area was nice. It was not huge, but it's perfect for one person. There are a couple different models. I think I saw three different models of three different apartments. It was nicely furnished. Many of the places, you can see an empty apartment, but you can't see one that already has some furniture in it to kind of picture your own things, and I did like that about Wilshire Estates. I met with a woman who works for the company. She's sort of a marketing person, and she travels a lot throughout the country. She was there, interviewed me, and showed me everything. She was very informative. She spent a lot of time showing me different apartments and talking about different features of Wilshire Estates. I also met the local director, Jack. I didn't have a lot of interaction with him because this woman sort of took over. They had a small gym and a crafts room. There's no pool, but there is a fitness room. They also had a room with a small movie theater with seats on different tiers, and it was very nice. The dining room was very nice. The decoration was very nice. It's a little different than a lot of other places in that they do not have any connection with any medical system at all. They are strictly independent living. If you are sick, they don't have assisted living. It's for anybody who just feels like they want to live in a place where they don't have to take care of a house. They don't have memory care. I only interacted with Tammy, and she was quite informative and easy to talk with."

"We looked at The Carnegie at Washingtonian Center. It's two years old, so everything is brand new. It has nine-foot ceilings, so it's a very spacious feeling. They have a continuing education program that sounded very interesting. However, I probably won't be able to afford it. Nevertheless, the people working there were very friendly and knowledgeable about the place and what they offered."
