"My father will be moving into #1 Adoring Adult Care. I went to three different ones, but that was the one I felt most comfortable with. I actually went there twice. It was clean. The staff was friendly. She was very organized and knowledgeable of the business, and kind of gave me reassurance about her personality that my dad was going to be safe with her. The rooms were very spacious and very clean. The whole house is well kept. The owner gave me the tour and she was very kind and very patient. She was returning my calls and answering all my questions. The dining area was formal and spacious as well. There's enough room for the people in there."

"Atrium Village had everything to offer, and it was beautiful. It had an excellent dining hall, a recreation, and a library. It had as many amenities as you could want. The person who gave me the tour was wonderful. Rebecca was outstanding, and the chef was a top chef, so we felt very good about it."

"When looking for a place for my dad about 8 years ago, we didn't look further once we'd found Elternhaus. And we were never disappointed over the 6 years he was there and when it was time for my mom to move to a care facility, it was a no-brainer -- Elternhaus was again our first and only choice. Good people who are involved with all aspects of care, kind, responsive and helpful. As to the facility itself, there are fancier places, but nowhere is cleaner or feels more like home."

"Since day one I have fallen in love with this place. This is by far the best assisted livings in Maryland. I’m so happy that I chose this assisted living for my father. Whenever I come to visit the facility is always clean, the staff is always nice, and my father is always happy. Whenever I take my dad out for a few days hes always so happy to return back to the staff. I highly recommend this facility. "

Our mission is to provide our residents with the highest level of care, unique to each individual's needs. To ensure the needs of our residents we have an on-call nurse practitioner. Our staff participate in monthly training given by the nurse practitioner to ensure resident comfort and care. In addition to our janitorial staff, Open Hand's uses germicidal lamps to sterilize our facility, to combat germs. The meals at Open Hand's are made in-house to perfection, with nutrition in mind. "Angel Core Home of Care at Parkmont is very different from the other facilities I have visited because it is a home with a small group of people. They currently have five folks, which is a mix of managed memory care and assisted living, and a staff of six. The whole staff are geriatric nursing assistants, which was nice. While it's only the owner and six GNAs for seven days a week, that is still seven staff people, including her, to five residents at any given moment, so it very much felt like there was a very strong and close relationship between the staff and the residents, which was nice. It did not have an institutional feel. It was in a house, and during my visit, we sat in the kitchen. The other rooms in the house had been repurposed for the residents. They have bedrooms, but the focus is on the larger space. They don't have the means to accommodate on-site the kind of activities that an institutional space can do, where there are big public areas where you can bring people in to do group events, but they supplement that need by being able to bring the residents to a daytime elder care program. They try to get the residents to spend a certain number of hours a day in another place where they can get that range of activities. When they're within the house again, it's a little different approach. It feels very much like roommates who have people caring for them rather than being in an institutional setting. It's a little less polished but also extremely like if you wanted to be in something a little more comfy, and you wanted your loved one to be able to go out of the space to get those social activities through another facility. That's very much how they're designed, so it's very different from an institutional setting. It's a house managed by a smaller staff of people with less division of labor. If you're looking for the deluxe sort of hotel experience of a bigger facility, you wouldn't be happy with them. But I like it, and the woman who runs the place and her staff were wonderful. We had a lovely conversation, and she was far and away my favorite person to talk to from all of the facilities I went to visit. Her level of commitment to the care of the people there and her commitment to providing a place that was genuinely comfortable for the five folks who were there really came through. It's more of a feeling that you get from the people and the way these people relate in the space, which was, to me, their strong point. If you like that smaller setting and are more dollar-conscious, they are significantly less expensive than everybody else. It probably shows up in the facility itself, but it didn't feel like it showed up in the level of care your loved one was gonna get."

"Merritt Station II Senior Apartments rejected me. They looked at my pay and said, "You're making too much." I said I'm about to retire. I wanted to go to Merritt Station II, and I found it nice. I went to their open house. They showed me two different-sized one-bedrooms. I liked the location. It's not too far from stores that I can shop at. It was nice and quiet. The staff was nice. It was very clean. It seems like a new building. The size of the rooms is smaller than what I've been living in."

"I like that Wilshire Estates Gracious Retirement Living caters to individuals who live there. I'm a football freak, and they said, 'We don't have a football group, but I'm sure that a lot of people would be interested in joining it if you wanted to start this kind of thing.' They have raised gardens that are waist-high. They had some people who had no idea how to do gardening, so they teamed them up with those who knew. We had had a huge snowstorm; however, the person who was supposed to do their snow plowing didn't show up. So Wilshire Estates went out, including the owners, and shoveled sidewalks so that people could drive in without issues. That impressed me. They not only cared for the people who live there, but they also cared for their employees. They provide everything. The only thing I would have to do is pay for my own phone and wash my clothes. If you can't wash your clothes, they have people that will do it for you. They provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lunch is the biggest meal, and at dinnertime, they usually have sandwiches or something light. I seemed to connect with the person who was selling the place. Even though it was expensive, I was impressed. The unit that I was looking at had just been vacated. The staff said they would clean everything from top to bottom, and when they become available, they would do upgrades, too."

"We went to tour the assisted living at Bedford Court but they showed us their independent living. Because assisted living was too much for us, it's for people who need help with toileting and showering and changing their clothes, who really had greater needs than my mom had. So they didn't even by showing us the assisted living. So it wasn't a good fit because she needs 24/7 support, and we would have had to pay for that on top of what they were charging us for her to live in the building. The rooms were very nice, it was like a small apartment and they were lovely. I felt like for somebody who's independent, I think it would be fine. But for somebody like my mother who's got some cognitive issues, I thought it would be overwhelming for her because there were eight floors, and it looked like a hotel with very long corridors and dusty hallways that were kind of dark. And I just thought she would be completely confused by every single hallway looking the same. We had a meal there, it was lovely. It was a restaurant-style meal, we had a waitress come over, and the food was good. There were lots of choices, just like dining in a restaurant. The staff who gave us the tour was a salesman and he was very nice."

"I love everything about Victory Crossing Senior Apartments. It was immaculate. I love the resources available, too. The apartments were large, and I love the fact that each apartment had a washer and dryer. I went with a friend who lived there; she explored it with me. They have a bus that takes you to the shopping center. They provide weekly activities in-house and some field trips. They had a party room and an area where you could meet privately with an insurance agent or someone you didn't want to come up in your apartment. Even though I'm not there yet, I would love to be selected. They don't cook for you, but they provide an area where you can have a party and provide food for your guests if that's what you desire. I've got my heart set on that."
