"My dad has been with Ms Shay a little more than six months. He needs memory care and can be a handful, two hands in fact. My family and I couldn’t be more pleased with this home. Ms Shay and her employees are friendly and accommodating. I’m not sure how she did it but my dad has made friends here. They play table games and he loves bingo night. Thank you Ms. Shay we were lost without you! "

"Lighthouse Senior Living at Ellicott City was a very nice place and had good amenities. The staff was very knowledgeable, and friendly, and gave us a good and thorough tour. The rooms were a little small but adequate. The facility was very neat and clean. The dining area was a little small but adequate. I didn't observe any activity because it was lunchtime."

"I love this place!!! After my Dad passed away I saw that my mothers dementia escalated, and I knew that it was time to take the next step.I did honor my mom's request to stay in her house with aides for about a year, but I was very much aware of the social isolation that ensued. My brother and I went on a tour around the Pikesville area. It was important that the facility be somewhat nearby as I knew that we would be the kind of sons that would want to see her almost daily. I also knew that I didn't want some big institutional type setting..I had remembered that someone once told me that generally speaking any faith-based hospital or senior living facility often has a certain compassion and kindness inherent to it. When we walked out of Tudor Heights, I said to my brother"this is the place" for mom. I didn't require that it be Kosher food based, but that turned out to be a bonus. The staff knows every resident even if they don't work that residents floor. The residents all know each other, and there are no "mile long" walks to get anywhere. I also noticed in the other places I saw that often the residents were just sitting around doing nothing. The activities directors here are non-stop, always going from one thing to the next. Sometimes I can't even get a few minutes alone with Mom !!! We are in our 4th year here, and as I still say to my brother, "best decision we ever made.""

"Mabel's House Assisted Living was very clean, but they did not allow cats in their facility. It was just a big house with bedrooms that you share. The dining area was just a very large eating area. The people seemed very friendly. They all smiled and said hi to me. The person that did the tour was very friendly and nice. They weren't doing any kind of activities. They had a TV on and only one resident was watching it."

"We chose Charter Senior Living of Woodholme Crossing for my sister. We thought the floorplan and the facilities were much better than the other place, because it's more like an apartment setting instead of just one big room like a hospital room. It's beautifully sectioned off, and we shall have a living room/dining room setting, and her bedroom and bathroom are separate. She'll have several closets and she does need that. The staff was very friendly, the facility was extremely clean, and when you can walk in somewhere and it smells pleasant, I like that. We were walking around while the residents were having lunch, they seemed very happy and engaged with their food, and it smelled delicious. There was a pianist while we were there who was playing songs and singing. We were there for about an hour and a half. We looked at their calendar of activities and they have happy hour today, and they had several activities listed. The atmosphere was very peaceful, just what a mature person needs."

"I toured Springhouse of Pikesville. It was really nice. Everything was clean. The staff there helped me a lot. They answered all my questions. The units that I saw were nice and spacious. They were nice rooms. They showed me where my relative could get his haircut, and if he was on insulin or something like that they could give him his medication, and they showed me that too, so that was very nice. It was a really nice place. They had a lot of accessibility for people who were using canes or wheelchairs, and I liked that."

"I liked Serenity Garden Manor. It was nice and clean. I liked the lady's spirit. She was nice. She showed us the place where my mother will be, and it was nice and clean. It was private. It felt more like home. My mother would have to share a room with another woman, so it was like two in a room. The staff told me they have activities like games and making things. They have a sitting room and a family room where family visits. She said I can come and get Mom whenever, but let her know. When she needs to go to the doctor, I will have to be the one to take her, but just let them know, so they will have her ready. They will give her her medicine. She said they have round-the-clock help. They provide healthy meals and some might have special food for diabetes or other condtions. They have a chair to help get mom up the steps. If she can't walk, they have a wheelchair. They have a walk-in shower, making it easy for them to get in and sit in the chair to be bathed."

"Shangrila Senior Living was great. The people were all pleasant and a lot of them had been there for a long time, which shows loyalty. I met the cook while I was sitting in a waiting room, and some other lady that worked with them. They were all very friendly and real nice. The facilities looked nice as well. The rooms looked really good. It had a bed, a dresser, and a bathroom. I looked at a smaller one because that's what I can afford (I'm sure there's better and bigger ones). The person that did the tour was very professional and very good. He didn't try to hide anything from me. He was very upfront and he's trying to think of other things that I could do for my wife. So, that was really nice."

"We toured Care Transitions. The nurse, I think his name was Ryan. He was nice. Everything was clear like all her needs would be met. He was able to answer all of our questions. The room was nice. She was looking into a private room. It's a good space, has a good-sized bathroom, and has a big TV. Things were generally clean. It is an old Baltimore home, so there are still stairs to get in and then there are stairs on the upper levels. So, if she wasn't going to be in the private room, she couldn't stay there because she couldn't do the stairs. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming."
