"My relative moved to Shangrila Senior Living, and the facility was nice and clean, with bright rooms. One advantage was that it had semi-private room options, and the bedrooms were decent size, which made it more affordable. Their care cost a maximum of $1200, which is better than every other place, which was helpful. However, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the big fancy places, but for her budget, this is perfect. The staff was friendly and very clear when they provided information. My relative was very anxious when she moved in, and they did a lot to help her feel more comfortable, so that was nice. I didn't taste the food, but I sat with my relative while she did, and she said it was very good, and they're willing to make her gluten-free options because she has celiac. So, that was helpful too. Monday through Friday they have more activities, but the day we were there, they were making winter wreaths. And sometimes they have the kids at the Montessori school next door come over and do activities with the seniors, which is nice. I think there was like a Jeopardy game going on one time. They seem to have 4 or 5 different things most days that would interest people. In the building, they have somewhere you could go out and things too, but not as many other places like trips out. This was the only place where we felt comfortable leaving her that was in her price range and we felt she would be well cared for. The biggest part for them is that their care costs are the most affordable."

"#1 Adoring Adult Care, is a wonderful place! Our sister have been under their care for almost a year. The staff is great, the facility is always nice kept, clean and the home cooked meals are AMAZING. I must say, I would love to come here when my time comes. I have came over and was able to enjoy outside activities as well as bingo and connect four. While visiting my sister, we always feel welcomed and like family. "

"I went to look at Mabel's House Assisted Living. My father needs a lot of one-on-one care, but they're not set up for one-on-one care. The staff members were friendly and very helpful. The facility was very clean. The structure was nice. The atmosphere was nice. I had a nice feeling when I walked in. The rooms were nice-sized and clean."

"It is very pleasant and nice. They appear to be caring with the patients. My mom is in their memory care unit. They have activities for residents to do, and they try to keep their minds busy. The rooms are nice. They have very big bathrooms with showers, closets, and shelves. They're good size, too. My mom has assistance when she needs it. The dining area is standard. They usually put a board up that tell the residents what they're having for their next meal. I like this place because I see that the people that work with Mom seem to genuinely enjoy helping their patients, and it is not just a job to them."

"We were challenged in early 2013 to find a memory care facility in the Washington-Baltimore area for our mother, who had just been diagnosed with vascular dementia. Looking back, we were impressed with the Columbia facility, the professional staff, caregivers, and administration. The Montessori-style programs designed to engage the residents in challenging educational and physical activities were also an impressive bonus of your program. The ensuing eight-plus years have confirmed that Charter-Columbia was the best place for our mother. Staff engagement through daily, planned activities such a flower arranging, music, arts and crafts, kept our mom focused on making the best of each and every day. Caregivers adopted Mom as part of the Charter family, creating a warm and loving environment. The culinary staff provided meals that would put five-star restaurants’ menus to shame. Their willingness and ability to continue to provide healthy and appealing meals when Mom began to experience difficulty in eating, was above and beyond our expectations. The medical and physical therapy staff ensured that mom’s health and physical abilities were their number one priority. Even during the COVID pandemic and her declining health, the staff went out of their way to engage Mom with love and compassion whenever she was able to respond. "

"My sister moved into Aventura at the Heights. It's an old house that has been refurbished, there's a lovely lobby/sitting area that leads into the dining room. She's fortunate because her room is right across from there on the first floor, so she doesn't have very far to go. I heard that there are two other floors, but I've never seen them. There is an elevator, but I don't know who's up on the second or third floor, but she's on the first floor. In the short time, she's been there, everybody has been very lovely, kind and attentive. I'd say, for the most part, some more than others, of course, but I feel like she's well cared for. They can improve in their response time though. She has her own kind of studio apartment, but it's a small studio. It has a full bathroom in there and then a little kitchenette. It has a refrigerator and some cupboard space. We put a microwave in there. There's like some sort of an exercise group in the morning and then they have trivia. They have movie nights. In the room where they eat, which I guess is the biggest room there, they have activities in there. I know they had some sort of speaker and like some sort of video, they were showing to their residents. She hasn't started yet, but she'll be getting physical therapy soon. The dining room is spacious, it looks like tables of four, although some people had put them together so they could be more sociable. It's very, very clean, and it smells clean, there is no strange odor. We were surprised because we had looked at four other places, and I believe the other four places were a little bit more expensive. This seemed to be somewhat more reasonable. It's worth the money. She seems to be doing well and she appears to be very happy there."

"My grandmother has been living here for 8 months and she is well taken care of. Because she moved in the midst of the pandemic, visitations have been limited to 30 minutes with the appropriate safety precautions in place which is understandable keeping my grandmother safe. In the absence of longer physical visits, our family have frequent video visits with my grandmother. The staff is very nice and personable knowing me by name. Although the rooms are smaller than I expected, they are clean, well kept, and all the space my grandmother needs. The food must be good because my grandmother always talks about how she likes the food. The Director and Assistant Director is very responsive whenever I have questions. I feel as though my grandmother is part of a family and not just another number."

"Woodholme Gardens is the place I have my wife in. It seems like a really nice and clean place. It seems like they are taking good care of my wife. The staff seems also pretty good to me. I've seen the food, and it was good. My wife has severe dementia, so she is not able to participate in their activities. "

"I looked at Symphony Manor, and I thought it was wonderful. It is a smaller place, and they have about 60 residents. The facility is for both independent and assisted living. I actually ended up placing my mother there. One thing I like is that this place is actually in my backyard. It is close enough so that I can walk across the street and go there. The staff is very attentive and very caring. They seem to know everybody by name. I'm there often, and I have to admit that I have never seen any of the staff disrespect or lose their patience with any of their residents there. My mother's apartment is bigger than the one that she was in before. It has a little kitchenette, two closets, and her own bathroom. She has plenty of closet space, and the bathroom is really big. "

"We went and looked at Sunrise of Pikesville. The facility was nice, clean, and bright. It looked like the residents were enjoying themselves when we visited. The staff was very attentive. If someone had a call for assistance, they responded quickly, which was important to us. They had a nice menu. They had lots of choices for residents. The activities were also very nice. The rooms were nice. There were a lot of different options for size and different price points, which we liked. We especially liked the semi-private room option, which was more affordable for our family member. Every staff member we ran into was very friendly. They seemed to be interacting with residents in a way that they knew the residents well. Everybody was polite and friendly."

"I didn't feel Alma's Grace Assisted Living was a good fit for my mom. The majority of the residents were male. The rooms were satisfactory. The staff was helpful, but I really didn't stay long. It was a quaint house. I didn't have any problems other than I just didn't feel it would be the right fit."

My mother is starting dementia and we are attempting to place in a assisted living home that is convenient for us and a home that can handle her concerns. This is not an easy task. Of all the homes we have seen in Howard County we feel most comfortable with Bryant Woods Manor. Their Memory Loss Program is the over-site that mother needs for her dementia."
